Ever since Mia sold Jones Group to Raphael, she moved out of the Howard family home and bought a small villa where she planned to spend her retirement.
That night, after washing up and getting ready for bed, the room suddenly plunged into darkness.
"Ah-"
Mia screamed in fright, standing still, too scared to move.
After a moment, as her eyes adjusted to the darkness, she calmed down. Using the moonlight streaming through the window, she felt her way along the wall and called out, "Someone, someone, what's going on? Why is there no electricity?!"
She called several times, but no one responded.
The surroundings were eerily quiet.
"Damn it, where is everyone?"
Mia's face gradually showed anger as she received no response.
She cursed as she returned to her room, intending to call property management to find out what was going on.
Just as she entered the room, there was a loud 'bang' as the window glass shattered. A strong cold wind blew in, lifting the curtains into the air. A figure in a red gauze dress with disheveled hair descended from above, accompanied by an ethereal voice.
"Mia, give me back my life."
"Ghost-"
Mia screamed in panic and fainted, falling to the ground.
The woman in red hanging in mid-air brushed away the hair blocking her view and jumped into the room.
She cautiously approached Mia and squatted down to check. After confirming that Mia had indeed fainted, she smirked and spoke into her wireless communicator, "She's fainted. We can wrap up for tonight."
"Not so fast. Search her room for any clues or evidence the boss wants."
A cold voice came through the communicator.
The woman obeyed and began searching the room.
After a thorough search, she found nothing.
She reported back, "I've checked the room and study. There's nothing suspicious."
"If there's nothing, then withdraw."
The man issued his order and cut off the communicator before contacting Lance to report the situation.
Lance didn't expect Mia to faint at first sight. He said coldly, "Continue tomorrow. Find a way to make her reveal the truth about Missus's mother's murder."
"Yes," the man nodded in agreement.
Lance gave a few more instructions before hanging up.
He put away his phone and returned to Deanna's side, voluntarily bringing up the domestic situation. "My people have taken action. Mia fainted at first sight, and there is no evidence left in her house."
Deanna was somewhat surprised by Lance's subordinates' efficiency.
After processing this, she frowned and said, "That's normal. Mia isn't stupid; she wouldn't leave evidence with herself."
She couldn't help but snort lightly and continued, "I didn't expect Mia to be so easily frightened. She fainted at first sight. I wonder where she got the courage to harm others back then."
"Courage and malice aren't mutually exclusive. As long as there's enough hatred and benefit, someone will take the risk."
Lance said calmly and then changed the topic, "Alright, let's not discuss this now. It might spoil our mood for shopping."
Deanna nodded, tidied up briefly, and went shopping with Lance to buy gifts for Gregory and Chloe.
...
Early the next morning, Mia woke up on the floor from the cold.
Holding her dizzy head, which felt feverish, she sat up and saw shattered glass all over the floor and the messy room around her.
But what shocked her most was the blood-red words on the wall above her bed.
Mia, give back my life!
Seeing these five words and feeling sick from her cold, Mia fainted again from the shock.
When she woke up again, she was already in the hospital.
Emily noticed she was awake and quickly approached with concern. "Mom, you're finally awake."
"Emily?"
Mia looked at Emily with a dazed expression.
The next second, she grabbed Emily's hand anxiously and fearfully said, "What do we do? Olivia's ghost is coming for me!"
Hearing this nonsense, Emily frowned deeply and forcefully held down her panicked mother.
"Mom, calm down. Olivia has been dead for years. How could she come for you? Someone must be setting you up!"
"Setting me up?"
Mia looked at her blankly.
Emily nodded firmly and continued, "Of course! You should know there are no ghosts in this world; only people pretending to be ghosts!"
As she spoke, her eyes narrowed dangerously.
After thinking for a few seconds, she said with certainty, "This must be Deanna's doing."
Besides Deanna, she couldn't think of anyone else who would go to such lengths to set up her mother.
Hearing this, Mia finally calmed down.
Yes, there are no ghosts in this world!
