Chapter 35- Driver Daredevils

Jack's PPOV

"Calm down babe I-" I coo. But was interrupted by the driver.

"Sir. Sir. " He called looking from the rear-view mirror.

"What?! " I ask.

He quickly glances to Zoe then gesture me to look behind.

I saw black SUVs behind, not so far away. Something was up.

I scoot Zoe towards me. "No," yells Zoe trying to break free.

"Listen" I said in dead serious tone. She immediately stopped. I quickly glance back. She followed my gaze.

Her eyebrows knit together. "I don't know who they are, but I know for sure that they are up to no good. " I said looking in her eyes.

"I know them" She whisper, "the other day, they followed me too"

They started shooting, bullets over bullets colliding with glass of the car.

My eyes widen.

"I want you to duck down. Close your eyes and ears and don't peek up or move until I say" I said.

She looked at the cars then to me but didn't respond, "What's going on? " She asks.

The cars now run parallel to ours. I immediately pushed her down "Do as I say" I order.

She nods and cover her ears with her palm.

"Pull over" I order driver.

"But sir-" He start but I cut him off.

"Now" I said.

"Yes sir" He slowed down the car and pulled over on the bridge. We were already surrounded.

The area was deserted.

I avoid guns when I am with Zoe, but it will be a mistake to go unarmed. I gesture the driver to hand me the gun from the glove box.

I open the door and got off, not before looking at the Zoe, her eyes were fixed on the gun in my hand.

As soon as I shut the door, I heard the car being locked.

I walked and stood in the middle of the bridge. The car door open, and Kevin walked out.

I breath out. My tense shoulder relaxed.

"Scared you. Didn't I? " He pats my back and laughed.

"What was that all about? " I ask.

"I wanted to provide protection" He said

"Provide protection by shooting on us?" I spoke in low voice taking step towards him. "Do you even know how scared Zoe is of violence? "

Kevin looked behind me, towards Zoe.

I followed his gaze.

"She didn't listen, did she? " He asks smiling.

Zoe remains seated in her seat looking at us curiously.

I turn back to Kevin.

"Come on, let's get you married." He said.

I heard the car door unlock. Most probably Zoe, planning to tease Kevin.

I was about to answer when I saw Kevin's eyes widen, "What the hell do you think you are doing?” Yells Kevin looking behind me.

I smirk and turn.

My blood boiled at the sight. Rage filled in me when I saw Zoe on the gun point. And gun was held by driver.

"Come out now sweet pea" He coo. Without an ounce of protest Zoe came out.

Kevin started shooting towards him, one bullet lodge in driver's hand. He hisses in pain and shoot near Zoe's leg.

It caused us to back off.

I tighten my hold on my gun. His one hand holds the gun on her head while other snaked around her throat.

Tears flow out of her eyes and her lips quivering.

"Kevin, is this your stupid joke? " I ask glaring the driver.

"No." Kevin replied.

I will definitely cut all of his fingers if this is some sick joke of his.

Zoe is already scared; violence is not her thing.

"Leave her" I order.

"No"

"What do you want? " Ask Kevin.

"I don't want anything. Someone wants her" He said pointing towards Zoe.

"Who? " Ask Kevin.

"I don't know. I just got money. Now. Let me deliver her" He said tightening his grip around her neck.

She struggles to breath. Her face turning red.

The driver obviously had other motives. Instead of using her as shield he held her on his right, exposing half of his to us.

He knows he is alone and can't get her out of here. He definitely has other motives.

"How much" I ask.

He laughed

"Why are you talking. Just shoot him" Whisper Kevin.

"No" I whisper back.

But Kevin didn't listen, he shot directly on his torso.

He immediately let go of Zoe and double over in pain. one of the Kevin’s man standing behind them pulled the Zoe and brought her to me.

Without thinking kevin's men started shooting him. Bullet after bullet lodging in his body.

Zoe's eyes remain fixed on the body. Mouth hung open and tears flowing out on her beautiful face.

I softly touch her face wiping out the tears and kissing her forehead.

She immediately hugs me.

I hold her as Kevin checked the driver's pocket. I saw as he pull the white paper out of the pocket and read it.

His head immediately shot towards me. He hand me the paper.

"Watch your kingdom crumble under my feet, My king"

Kevin looked at me questionably. I placed the note in my pocket. And lead Zoe to the car.

Once I secure Zoe in the car. I shut the door and faced Kevin who was hot on his heels behind me.

"Who do you think is behind all this? " He asked.

"I don't know" I said.

"But one thing is sure that he has planned all this" He said.

"It's not one. It's they" I said thinking hard.

All the events occur one after the other. It was well planned.

"You are right" Said Kevin leaning on the car. "But what's their motive? "

"He had chance to kill Zoe when she was alone with him in car. He didn't." I said.

"They wanted to scare you" He said.

"Me and Zoe" I correct.

"Why Zoe? "

"I have promised her dad that I won't marry her if she doesn't want to. I won't force her" I said.

"What a pussy" Scoff Kevin.

I glance at Zoe. She was crying while looking at the driver.

"Let's get out of here first" I said opening the door.

"I am coming with you" Said Kevin.

I nod.

I took the seat beside Zoe and scoop her in my arms. Kevin took the seat where she sat before.

"Who was he? " She asks in small voice

"My driver" I said rubbing my hand on her back.

"He put the gun on my head" She said crying.

"Shh" I coo kissing her temples.

The car started moving when Zoe crane her neck to look at him again.

"Don't. Just close your eyes" I said pulling close to me.

"No. He didn't want to do that. He was good man" She said.

"Not all men are good you dumb" Said Kevin.

Zoe pulled her head away from my shoulder to look at Kevin, "you are dumb. You shoot us. And he didn't want to do that" She spoke.

"He did that for money" Said Kevin.

"No, he didn't." She said confidently.

"How do you know, love? " I ask.

"He was crying when you got out. He was looking at his family picture and repeatedly utter that he will make everything right. Then he put the picture in his pocket then said I will save you,” she said.

I looked at Kevin as he pulled that picture out of his pocket, " This? " He asked her. "I found this in his pocket"

"Yes, this picture. He even said he will save them" She said looking at me hopefully.

I kiss her cheek and rest my head back. I am having a headache. I felt her hand on my pocket trying to pull my phone out.

Keeping my eyes close I asked, "what do you think you are doing? "

"We need to call police" She said.

"NO! WE DON'T" yell Kevin making her shrink.

I eyed Kevin, these morons adding headache.

"Why? " Ask Zoe.

"Shh. Let us handle this okay? " I said immediately. To which she nods and hugs me.

We reach the farmhouse. Riley came out running. Zoe too jumped out as soon as the car stopped.

"You need to teach her" Said Kevin.

"I know" I said

We sat in the living room while Riley and Zoe head to the room.

"What happened? " Asked Griffin, her dad.

"Driver points the gun on her head, she saw us killing him. She is scared" I said.

"Of course," Scoffs Griffin.

"Where is Aarav?" Asks Kevin.

I grabbed the whiskey bottle and gulp down twice. It burns my throat.

"What do you mean? " He asks.

I raise my eyebrows. "Where is he? "

"He was with you" He said.

I look at Kevin, we were correct, "when was the last time you saw him? "

"He left as soon as you left with Zoe" He answered.

"Well, he was not with us" I replied.

"What? " He ask in disbelief.

What do these morons think? Am I blind? Or dumb?

I took a threatening step towards him, "what are you hiding? "

"Nothing" He said, fear evident in his voice.

I grabbed his neck, "I am asking again. What are you hiding? "

The thing he told me left me stunted.

I can't believe this could happen.

I can't believe this.

"Don't you dare to run. Keep Zoe safe. My men will be guarding here 24*7. Prepare her for me" I spoke and head out.
