chapter 12

“he must have been a proper nutter”

I sat with my fold out desk on my lap as I contemplated. Either this person was genuinely insane or he had actually found where the devil was sealed away. I chuckled to myself at the idea of the latter being true. I still couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right though. I must have sat for an hour or so just trying to rationalise if this was even possible and if so how had no one else found it or him. I soon relised that it was dark outside and I needed to sleep as I had school in the morning. Once again my sleep was broken and it only seemed to be getting worse. On this night I found my self floating in darkness and then again in the middle of a battle both sides fighting furiously and once again the voice.

“you have violated one of the ten laws given to you by your creator, you shall now face your punishment”

This was followed by the same intense burning pain down my back. This time it was more vivid in how it felt, like someone was tearing out my shoulder blades and burning the wound at the same time, I felt tears begin to swell in my eyes as my wrist started to burn as well and then falling for what seemed like an eternity in blackness. This was the point where I would wake up. Sweat was pouring off my body and I could still feel the pain in my shoulder blades, I brought my hands to my face to try and comfort myself from the pain. As my hands touched my face I couldn’t tell if it was sweat or if I had actually been crying, this was a new detail each time I woke previously I had been crying. After a good hour of watching the clock I slowly drifted back into sleep and back into the never ending nightmare that plagued me.

I woke to the buzz and beep of my alarm clock and had to fight to stay awake I knew I had to move or I would loose my bathroom slot. I grabbed my stuff and with a second to spare I made it to the bathroom. As I shut the door I thought to myself that I needed to get up quicker or I was going to end up loosing to my sister one of these mornings. As I carried out my normal routine I looked myself over in the mirror and as I looked into my eyes I noticed what looked like a small gold fleck in one of my eyes. As I kept looking it seemed to slowly fade. I yet again chalked this down to the fact that I had not really slept well for the last few days. I didn’t bring this up with my mum aside from casually mentioning I kept having nightmares. She suggested some herbal remedy as ever and said

“if that doesn’t work we can book yu into the doctor but I don’t know what they will tell you, maybe you shouldn’t play such violent video games”

I just kinda shrugged it off and nodded, I was well aware that it was not the games I had been playing them for years and had never had this issue before. Plus its not like I played them a lot I didn’t have the latest console so a lot of the game I played were older and not as graphic also the graphics weren’t the best on them. Another thing was that some of my friends from school had played them for a lot longer than I had and a lot more frequently then I did and as far as I was aware they didn’t have nightmares from it.

As I walked to school that morning I thought to myself about if it was worth telling my friends but then also dreaded what they might think and how this might change what they thought of me. As I passed the park I noticed some older kids probably around 18 or 19 hanging out in the park. They all appeared to be smoking and as I passed my nostrils were filled with a heavy pungent almost earthy smell. They obviously weren’t smoking normal cigarettes. As I passed them a part of my mind pinged with the thought, look at them living in sin. I pushed the thought away not even sure why it had come to mind. I reached the school gates and made my way to the classroom. As I entered I noticed that abbey wasn’t here my heart sank a little. I couldn’t explain why but she always seemed to brighten my day no matter how rough the night had been.
