Chapter 113 Dark World
"Forget it. You can go. No harm done," someone from the crowd spoke up.
They were just ordinary folks who had been anxious about the gang of men in black looking to settle scores with them.
While Liam had dealt with the situation, there was no guarantee there wouldn't be repercussions, so they preferred a peaceful resolution.
"Let them go?" Amelia could see the others were no ordinary troublemakers.
Liam smiled and nodded at Jonny. "Remember, my name is Liam. If you're looking for revenge, feel free to come at me anytime!"
He waved dismissively and said, "Beat it!"
"Take care." Jonny rose to his feet, striding toward the exit of the park. As he turned away, a glint of icy menace flashed in his eyes.
Despite the old man's warning that Robert might be a top-tier fighter, on par with a generalissimo, Jonny had his confidence booster, his wealth. With the right price, he could hire a fighter of equal caliber.
His thugs, dressed in black, scrambled up from the ground and staggered after him, eager not to be left behind.
Minutes later, as the party approached the park's exit, a man in a baseball cap sauntered in from outside.
"Outta the way, move it!" two of the goons barked, already on edge and looking for a scapegoat.
As they spoke, they lunged forward to shove the man, but their threats were cut short. With a swift flick of his wrist, the man revealed a cold gleam, and the two men in black collapsed.
In the next instant, a thin line of red appeared across their throats. They opened their mouths as if to speak, but no words came out. With a final twitch of their legs, they lay still.
"You're asking for it!" the rest of the men in black roared in fury, charging at the stranger.
Without a word, the man moved like a specter, unleashing a flurry of deadly strikes like flashes of lightning.
In under a minute, nearly half of the twenty or thirty goons were on the ground. Throats sliced, bodies twitching briefly before going still.
Jonny's wife turned deathly pale with fright, trembling all over.
The wiry old man's pupils contracted at the encounter with the stranger's presence.
"Jonny, let's get out of here!" he urged, quickly ushering Jonny and his wife toward the gate in a panicked retreat.
The man in the baseball cap, having finished off the remaining goons with a few additional slashes, walked into the park as though he had just done the most ordinary thing in the world.
"Murder!" some tourists at the park entrance screamed, and a wave of panic sent them fleeing.
Almost simultaneously with the cap-wearing man's engagement, Liam and Robert, hundreds of meters away, detected the disturbance, their eyes narrowing slightly.
They sensed not only the generalissimo-level energy radiating from the man but also at least two dozen other strong presences converging on their location, like a storm cloud's imminent crush.
"People from the underworld!" Liam's brows furrowed as he sensed a powerful, bloodthirsty aura, clearly not that of an ordinary fighter.
Without hesitation, the two men rocketed toward Amelia and her companions.
Before reaching Amelia, however, Liam and Robert halted abruptly.
Two figures, a man and a woman, had already positioned themselves by Amelia's side before them.
"Hey, kiddo, how about I play on the seesaw with you?" cooed the strikingly seductive woman as she scooped Ruby into her arms.
"I don't want to play with you! Put me down!" Ruby fought back fiercely.
"What are you doing? Put Ruby down right now!" Amelia shrieked.
"Shut up!" barked the man beside her sharply.
A gust of wind from a heavy punch shattered the nearby seesaw into dust, leaving a large crater in the ground.
Amelia's heart skipped a beat, and it dawned on her that these people had come specifically for them.
Ruby burst into tears.
"Ruby, don't be scared. Daddy's here, and I promise no one's gonna hurt you!" Liam called out, taking a deep breath.
An icy intent to kill emanated from him, causing Robert, who stood behind, to shiver uncontrollably.
It was clear to him that Liam was on the verge of rage, a situation with potentially dire consequences.
"Ruby trusts Daddy," Ruby said in a loud voice, wiping away her tears.
The ordeal in Hst City had toughened her far more than her peers. She had full faith in her father's assurances. If he said all would be well, then it would be.
Amelia took a deep breath and turned to face Liam. "Who are they?" she asked.
"Don't worry, Amelia, it's going to be okay," Liam assured her with a calming gaze.
As he spoke, a group of about twenty men and women, including a guy in a ball cap, appeared some hundred meters away. Each of them exuded a potent aura— the least powerful among them was at Generalissimo level 3, while the strongest seemed to match the seductive woman at level 4.
"You're after me. Let them go," Liam said, squinting at the seductive woman.
"Were Aaron and the others killed by you two?" the woman licked her fiery red lips.
"If you release them now, I'll let you leave here alive," Liam continued.
"I've heard there are three Generalissimo powerhouses in CUG city. Besides you two, the other one must be on his way, right?" the woman said with a flirtatious smile.
Amelia gasped in shock at her words.
Although they were not fighters, they understood what Generalissimo meant as common knowledge.
Such a title belonged to the stuff of legends, figures towering over their world from an unfathomable height.
Just a few days ago, the television news reported a high-ranking officer being awarded the title of Generalissimo, and the host specially mentioned congratulating the camp on the addition of another Generalissimo.
To common folks like them, individuals with such titles were nothing less than extraordinary.
Now they were saying that both Liam and another were Generals of the highest order?
"It can't be, that's just impossible. They must have it mixed up!"
If Liam and Robert were really of such high rank, they would've been in D.C. long ago, holding prominent positions, not hanging around them like regular folks day in and day out.
However, recalling the few times Robert had shown his prowess in front of them sent chills down their spines.
"Could it be true?"
