Chapter 44 Gabriel Is Bullied
Chapter 44 Gabriel Is Bullied
Seeing this, Evelyn didn't insist. She also asked Mr. Cross to stay and had Owen bring her a lounge chair.
Just like that, she lay there squinting in the sunlight, sipping her cocktail while ordering Christopher and Mr. Cross around.
These two—one a technical expert from the Department of Defense, the other a computer guru in the eyes of outsiders—had now both turned into robots that could only follow orders, going wherever Evelyn pointed. And on top of that, they kept getting whacked on the head with a wooden stick by Evelyn's right-hand man Owen—
"The boss said to install it straight on. Do you understand what 'straight on' means? It's obviously crooked."
"It's only off by a few centimeters."
"A few centimeters?! Don't you know that even a few millimeters is a fatal error in mathematics?"
"But this isn't mathematics..."
Amid all the bickering, the computer was successfully assembled.
And the moment it booted up, even though the three of them were mentally prepared, they were still completely blown away.
Especially Christopher—he excitedly touched the computer case, with only one thought in his mind—
Forget about leaving after learning everything, he was going to stick with Evelyn for life!
...
With the computer assembled, Evelyn was ready to start solving the problem.
Due to the Department of Defense's confidentiality rules, Mr. Cross could only reluctantly leave to avoid any issues.
Before leaving, he kept looking back every few steps with longing, but before he could say anything, Owen pushed him out.
One Christopher was annoying enough—who knew where this Mr. Cross suddenly came from.
But the moment Owen stepped out of the garage, Christopher blocked the doorway: "You need to leave too."
He pointed at himself smugly, "Only active Department of Defense personnel can stay."
Owen was so angry his teeth itched, but there was nothing he could do. Still, he refused to just leave like that, and ended up insisting on waiting outside for Evelyn to finish.
Evelyn paid no attention to all this commotion. She was already completely focused on the puzzle before her. That Secretary Moore from the Department of Defense was right—this problem wasn't simple.
But she already had an approach.
Her fingers had barely typed a few letters on the keyboard, and Christopher hadn't even had time to rush over to watch, when noisy voices came from outside the door again.
"Evelyn, this is my house. What do you think you're doing bringing all these shady people in here every day?"
Owen replied: "Hey, Jenny, what do you mean by 'shady people'?"
"Owen, I wasn't talking about you."
Owen replied: "My boss's parents already quit working for your family and aren't taking your family's money anymore, but they're still helping out. Besides, according to the employment contract, they can use this garage until the end of this month."
"I didn't say I was kicking them out. Why are you being so mean to me..." Jenny said pitifully, "I just heard some things about Gabriel."
Evelyn's hands stopped moving, and then she heard Jenny's voice, pretending to be sad but unable to hide her smugness: "She deliberately sent her brother to some vocational school where he's getting bullied, while she's here having fun with several men..."
"What do you mean having fun? Don't talk nonsense, we're just—"
Owen's words were interrupted by hurried footsteps. Evelyn had already walked to the doorway: "What do you mean getting bullied?"
Jenny said: "What, you're so well-connected, but you don't know your brother is being isolated and bullied at his new school?"
"Some people talk a good game, but they're actually incredibly selfish..."
Evelyn's expression turned stern, and she walked outside without hesitation, planning to go check on Gabriel's school. Christopher, following right behind her, angrily interrupted Jenny.
"Shut up, you bitch!"
"B-bitch?"
Jenny pointed at herself, looking completely incredulous, but before she could figure out where this completely ungentlemanly guy came from, he had already chased after Evelyn, shouting: "Boss, aren't you going to keep solving it?"
Jenny stamped her foot in anger, "Owen, who is that lunatic? How dare he call me that!"
But Owen glanced at her with even more disgust, left her with "Stop clinging to me. It's annoying," and also chased after Evelyn.
Leaving Jenny behind, screaming in frustration.
...
When Evelyn arrived at California Sports School, it was mealtime.
It was Sunday, so there were no classes, but many hardworking students—especially boarding students—still chose to train on the courts. Because the new school was far from home, Gabriel had also chosen to board. But Evelyn didn't find him in the dorm or on the courts.
Soon, Christopher and Owen, who had gone separately to check the classrooms and cafeteria, also sent messages saying they hadn't found him.
Evelyn couldn't reach Gabriel, so she finally just rushed into the security office and, without bothering to explain, tied up the guard and pulled up the surveillance footage. Only then did she find Gabriel eating a rice ball all alone in a dark, deserted stairwell corner.
Owen and Christopher quickly arrived. One pulled out money, the other pulled out cigarettes, and they finally managed to calm down the furious guard.
The three of them then rushed to the stairwell corner where Gabriel was.
"Evelyn?" Gabriel was very surprised to see Evelyn, but before he could feel happy, the sandwich in his hand was snatched away by Evelyn.
The sandwich was cold and hard—Rose had made it the day before yesterday when he left home. There was no way it was still edible.
"Bro, we have money now. Don't eat this stuff anymore." Evelyn grabbed his wrist and started pulling him outside without giving him a choice. "What's the most expensive restaurant around here?"
Owen and Christopher immediately pulled out their phones, then said in unison: "David's Restaurant."
The moment Gabriel heard the restaurant's name, fear flashed across his face. He said hesitantly: "Sis, let's just go to our school cafeteria. The food there is pretty good too."
But Evelyn caught his expression precisely. "Bro, we're going to David's Restaurant."
She wanted to see what kind of troublemakers were there.
The restaurant was right next to the school, within walking distance. The exterior was lavishly decorated, and the waiters at the entrance all wore designer suits and spoke with refinement.
But the moment the four of them sat down and got menus, before they could even look at them, the menus were snatched away.
"Well, well, if it isn't Gabriel?"
The young man in the lead looked about the same age as Gabriel, but was much more muscular, and his manner and movements were full of confidence—clearly from a well-off family.
The guys behind him were also all wearing designer brands. One of them, twirling a Porsche key chain, mocked: "Gabriel, you're eating here? You probably can't even afford the water here."
Evelyn narrowed her eyes and tapped on the table, saying in a low voice: "Waiter, do you only have one menu here?"
"What, begging for food isn't enough, now you're begging other tables for menus?"
