Chapter 97

Chapter 97
Evie

“Ethan!!” I yelled at the top of my lungs as I rushed towards him.

“Lucian, do something!!” I yelled at the top of my lungs, my eyes glassy with tears.

Just then, he took one final move, stretching his hands to the pendant on the floor. The minute his hands touched it, Arthur came from the shadows, giving Kieran a hard punch to his face, which sent him flying.

I turned my gaze back to Ethan while Arthur rushed towards Lucian to pick him up.

“Ethan?” I called out softly as he was starting to regain his consciousness.

“Mommy,” he muttered softly, making me pull him in for a hug, my heart pounding in my chest.

“Are you okay?” Arthur's voice echoed in my ears as he lifted Lucian up.

“I'm fine!!” he sneered, his voice laced with venom as he pushed Arthur out of his way, heading straight to where Kieran lay weakly, pulling out a gun from his pockets and aiming at Kieran’s head.

“Those aren't silver bullets, Lucian; it won't kill him,” Arthur announced.

“Lucian, no!!” I yelled, stopping him from pulling the trigger. “Please don't shoot!” I added sternly.

“Are you being serious right now?! He literally tried to kill me!!” he retorted.

“I saw that, Lucian, but please, he's the only one who can give Ethan the training he needs when the time is right,” I replied.

Lucian’s gaze bore into mine as he stared at me with gritted teeth. He turned back to Kieran and, with a firm voice, he said, “Get out!!”

“I'm not leaving without my family; you can kill me if you want, but newsflash, I'm willing to die trying,” he spat back.

“Kieran, just go!!” I snarled at him.

“Not without you, Evie. If he thinks because he's the Umbra wolf I'll be scared of him, then he's mistaken. Let me remind him that my father was the one who slit his pack's throat during that war years ago. If he tries something, I wouldn't hesitate to repeat history!” he spat out sternly.

“Kieran, no!!” I yelled, but before I could stop him, he'd already spilled every single thing I intended to keep secret from Lucian.

“Shit!” Cyan cursed, “even as an alpha, this dude doesn't know when to shut the hell up!" she said.

“I think I've seen where I get my loud mouth from,” Ethan muttered under his breath.

“This isn't the time for jokes, Ethan,” I fired at him, making him go mute.

“What did you just say?” Lucian asked with creased brows, turning to Arthur. “What does he mean by that, Arthur?” he asked.

“He's right, Lucian; every wolf has a pack, just like an extended family, and his father, together with the other alphas, murdered your people,” Arthur explained.

Everywhere immediately fell silent as if death itself had exhaled. Lucian slowly turned his gaze back to Kieran, who by this time had stood up in shock as he'd just realized that he had let the cat out of the bag.

“So what you’re saying is this man right here and his people are responsible for the death of my clan?” Lucian asked through gritted teeth.

“Your pack…” Arthur corrected, “but yes.” He added softly.

Without any other word, Lucian grabbed Kieran by the collar and was about to shove him out the window while all my screams and pleas fell on deaf ears.

“Lucian!!! No!!” I yelled again.

Just then, Arthur grabbed them both and drew them inside with full force, which sent them rolling on the ground, but Kieran stood immediately and was about to retaliate when Arthur used his super speed abilities to stop him, his eyes glowing in dark green just like sentinels as he stared at Kieran.

“This is your last chance to leave, young man; you're not the enemy for now. Our war with you would definitely come, but that would be against your whole pack. Don't make me change my mind,” he sneered before shoving him to the ground.

“What the hell are you saying, Arthur?!” Lucian snarled. “Allow me to rip this guy apart!!” he added with venom in his voice.

“You can't right now, Lucian; look out your window!” Arthur growled.

Lucian and I rushed towards the window and, to our surprise, before us was the paparazzi coming down from their bus.

“Paparazzi?! What are they doing here?!” I asked with creased brows.

“FCK!” Lucian spat.

“The election is fast approaching, Evie, and it's tradition that both mayors give their manifesto before it's finally the day. His opponent did that last week, plus with your marriage coming up next week, Lucian would definitely not have the time for this, so I guess they knew that and now they've decided to show up in his house,” he explained.

“Aren't they supposed to give a notification or something?! To at least get us prepared?” I retorted.

“Shit! I'm so not ready for this!” Lucian growled.

“You have to put your shit together and be ready, Lucian; don't show even an ounce of exhaustion on your face, do you understand?!” Arthur said.

“Stupid assistant couldn't even say a word; I'm sure they sent emails!” he replied.

“What assistant? The same one you fired?!” I spat at him with a firm voice, making him go mute.

“Go get ready, Lucian,” Arthur urged. “You too, Evie,” he added. Lucian heaved a deep sigh of frustration, giving Kieran one last glare before he turned to leave. “And also…” Arthur interrupted, stopping him in his tracks.

“You both should be prepared to answer any kind of questions, even questions not relating to the elections or being human!" he warned.

“And what's that supposed to mean?” I asked with creased brows.

“Just follow Lucian's lead, Evie; I'm sure he'd know what to do,” he replied. “And Lucian?” he called out, making him turn his gaze in his direction. “Your scent is more powerful than you think; know when to use it,” he added.

“What about Ethan? I can't….” I tried to speak.

“The boy would be with me,” Arthur said before I could finish. “And this young man here would go back to his pack following the exact same route he took into the mansion. You mustn't let any human see you, do you understand?!” Arthur sneered at Kieran, who just stood there speechless.
