Chapter 95
Chapter 95
Evie
I woke up to the bright rays of the morning sun, squinting my eyes slightly, trying to accommodate the amount of light going into my eyes. My whole body reeked of exhaustion from last night. I slowly opened my eyes only to lock eyes with Ethan, who sat beside me on the bed, watching me sleep with a smile on his face.
“Ethan? You're awake,” I called out as I sprang up from the bed.
“Good morning, Mom,” he said with a smile.
“Good morning, pumpkin. How are you feeling? Are you alright? Hope his scent didn't harm you? Should I call the doctor?” I asked, bombarding him with numerous questions as I stared at him.
“Mom, I'm fine. You don't have to worry... I feel good,” he replied, his voice matter-of-fact.
“Are you sure?” I asked with raised brows.
“Yes, Mom, I'm sure… And since when did we start calling doctors?” he asked with a light chuckle, making me let out a soft sigh, slamming my hands against my head as I stared at him, curling my lips in a smile.
“Oh my goodness... I totally forgot that we are wolves,” I said, letting out a light chuckle.
“Exactly,” he replied, grinning from ear to ear. “You slept so peacefully, Mom,” he added softly.
“Oh, did I?” I asked with furrowed brows, but he just replied with a light nod. “Well, I only did because I was sure you were going to be fine,” I said with a smile.
“How's Alpha Lucian?” he asked, making me choke on my breath as memories of my last words to him came flooding back into my head.
“Shit,” I cursed under my breath. I didn't even get to ask him how he was, I thought. I turned to the bedside table to check the time, and to my surprise, it was the evening. I must have really slept so soundly to not have noticed that time was this gone, I thought.
“I'm guessing you didn't care to ask him, did you?” Ethan's voice echoed in my ears, jolting me out of my reverie.
“Yes…” I blurted out, closing my eyes in exhaustion as I tried to get out of bed.
“Going to his room?” Ethan asked, making me halt in my tracks.
“Yes,” I replied.
“I've been there. He doesn't seem to be anywhere here,” he said.
“Oh,” I mumbled under my breath.
“Mom, did you do something to offend him?” he asked with creased brows.
“No… Not at all, Ethan… Whatever I did was just to protect you… Nothing else,” I replied with a stern voice.
“Okay then,” he replied, pausing for a while. “So what was wrong with him?” he asked.
“Well… Turns out Lucian is a shadow wolf,” I blurted out.
“What? Huh? Shadow wolf? What is a shadow wolf?” he asked.
“They are wolves that were on the verge of extinction for a very long time because your grandfather was the one who murdered the whole clan of shadow wolves together with the other Alphas of Haven Hills. But thankfully, Lucian doesn't know this yet, so…” I explained.
“So what you're saying now is Alpha Lucian has been living a lie, thinking he was a human all this while?” he asked.
“Well, you asked for the truth from now on, boy, and now I can see you're no longer the little boy I thought you used to be, so you'd better be prepared to hear things you've never heard before,” I replied.
“I'm not scared of him, Mom. I'm just curious,” he said.
“Well, you need to be, Ethan, because the only reason why we're still alive and well is because he doesn't know his origin. Because if he does, we both are certainly dead meat for sure,” I replied.
“What do you mean?” he asked with furrowed brows.
“What I mean is, our pack and the shadow claw wolves are great enemies Ethan, and Lucian can't find out about this,” I said.
“Okay, Mom,” he replied.
“What?!” I called out sternly.
“I heard you, Mom, loud and clear,” he retorted.
“This isn't like that last time when you couldn't control your mouth about telling him you're an alpha's son. Things are really starting to get serious out here, you know,” I shot back at him.
“You have to trust me, Mom. I said I've got this…” he replied. “Alpha Lucian wouldn't know about this,” he added.
“And what am I not supposed to know?” a hoarse voice echoed behind me, making me flinch in shock.
“Lucian!!” I exclaimed, my heart pounding loudly against my chest. “Wh…when did you arrive?” I asked with a trembling voice.
“Not long ago,” he replied.
Just then, I noticed his bloody red and puffy eyes. He looked like he'd been crying.
“Are you okay, Lucian?” I asked, seeking the perfect escape from his question, but he just stared at me before shifting his gaze to Ethan, who still sat on the bed.
“Ethan, could you please give us a moment?” I asked. He gave me a light nod even before I finished my sentence as he made his way out.
“I'll be in the kitchen. I'm starving,” he said sarcastically before leaving.
I waited for some minutes just to be sure Ethan was out before I finally turned my gaze back to Lucian. “Hey, are you okay? Where have you been… Ethan said you've not been around all day…” I said, but even before I could finish, he slumped on my shoulders, pulling me in front of him with tears in his eyes.
“I went to my parents’ house,” he said.
“Wait? Really?” I asked with creased brows, trying to hold him up, but he just wouldn't budge as he continued resting on me while I tried balancing myself firmly on the ground.
“Yes, Evie,” he replied.
“And what did you find out?” I asked.
“It's true, Evie, it's all true… You all were right… Arthur was also right,” he said. “She killed my biological mother, Evie. She's so evil,” he cried.
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
“I'm saying I was only adopted by my mom, Evie. My father is still my father, but my biological mother was only a surrogate tool for the woman I've called mother for my entire life,” he explained.
“What?!” I exclaimed in shock.
“That was my exact reaction, Evie, and trust me when I say I'm going to make her pay in the worst possible way, including everyone who murdered my whole clan… Arthur told me they were all killed and that their death wasn't an ordinary one. So I'm going to make every single person pay!!” he snarled.
I swallowed hard, my heart racing in my chest as I patted his back, knowing fully well the Moonfang pack is his number one enemy, and my very own son is the heir of that pack, I thought.
Just then, the door flung open, revealing the very last person I never thought I'd see again. “Kieran?” I called out softly.
“Is that his name?” Ethan's voice echoed softly as he walked into the room, while father and son stared blankly into each other's eyes.
