Chapter 94
Chapter 94
Kieran
I got out of the palace running as far as my legs could carry me into the woods, bones making crackling sounds, muscles shifting as I closed my eyes, wincing in pain, taking my wolf shape with one thing and one goal in mind. Get Evie and my son back no matter the cost, I thought inwardly.
The journey was quite a long one even when I followed the shortcut from earlier as day turned into night, but with each step I took, and with Evie on my mind, determination became my new strength.
I arrived at the mansion after what felt like forever, panting heavily as I took in several ragged breaths hiding in the bushes, calculating my next move. My eyes scanned through every nook and cranny from where I stood, trying to get a hold on Evie even if it was just her scent, but obviously I was too far away.
I swallowed hard, staring at the numerous guards around the place as that son of a btch had tightened the security.
“Fck,” I cursed under my breath with a tight jaw and clenched fist, but just then I locked eyes with the gates as they flung open on their own, getting ready for a car to go in.
“It's now or never, Kieran,” Jai's voice echoed in my head.
I darted my eyes back and forth just to be sure no one was watching. I took another shift - this time it tore through me, fur sinking into skin, claws curling back into trembling fingers. I dashed across the road, slipping beneath the car’s belly; the pipes burned against my palms as I lunged to the metal, breathing hard, praying no one saw my real form, heart pounding loudly against my chest.
Just then the car came to a halt on a spot, followed by the click sound of shoes as two people stepped out of the car.
“Are you okay, Lucian?” one of them asked, but the only response that followed was a deafening silence.
“How do you think I'm feeling, Arthur?” the other finally replied after some minutes.
“I can imagine. I'll be inside,” the first voice said softly.
“And I'd like to be alone. Tell the maids that,” the other guy said, pausing for a while. “And oh Arthur,” he called out again.
“Yes,” the Arthur guy responded.
“You have your job back, by the way,” the Lucian guy spoke. That must be the son of a btch who tortured me, I thought, with rage building inside me.
“I never really resigned,” the Arthur guy said as they both walked in.
The air suddenly became silent as I could only hear their steps from a distance. I got out of my hiding place, transforming back into my human form as I stared at the entrance, which now had two hefty men guarding it.
“Don’t tell me you're about to go through the front door,” Jai spoke, his voice sharp and firm.
“Jai! You have to stop doing that!” I fired at him.
“Doing what?!” he retorted, “I'm just here to make sure your ass doesn't get caught again like the last time. Don't make me regret ever helping you AGAIN!” he sneered.
“Never mind! By the way, I'm sorry about earlier. I knew my words pissed you off,” I apologized.
“I guess you're still an Alpha with or without your wolf, right?” he asked, his voice laced with venom.
“Oh come on now, Jai. I just apologized; of course, I'm nothing without you,” I replied, but he just stayed mute. “Does that mean that I’m forgiven?” I asked.
“How about we focus on the task at hand first before worrying about forgiveness - those guards are headed this way, you have to get out of here now! And fast!” he snarled, pointing in my direction to the troop of men heading my way.
“Shit!” I cursed, my eyes scanning through the place looking for an escape.
Just then, I locked eyes with the other cars parked in lines which led to the back of the house. “Gotcha!” I mumbled softly with a smirk on my face as I rolled over before landing on the other side.
I walked stealthily through the backyard; beads of sweat began to form on my forehead as I began climbing one balcony after another. I went around each room, in search of Evie. In the first room I entered, I saw a bunch of ladies dressed in the same uniform like maids as they scrambled through several chores. I immediately took cover to make sure none saw me, forcing a lump down my throat as I took one last glance before proceeding to the next balcony.
I checked again through the glass doors, but this time I saw a bunch of guards chatting and laughing. Just as I was about to leave, my feet hit a giant vase of flowers, making a loud sound and making my pulse spike; this drew their attention, but I was quick to go up again, taking cover behind some pillars. Just as I hid myself, I saw one of them come out to check what the noise was, but thankfully I was safe.
I heaved a deep sigh of relief, taking another look at where I was, but to my surprise, I locked eyes with a whole lot of naked ladies in a room chatting and laughing while some were in another corner dressing up in their uniforms.
“Holy crap!” I exclaimed softly with widened eyes.
“Oh dear goodness of nature, did you see those, Kieran?” Jai exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement.
“Come out of it, Jai. I'm sure this isn't the first time you're seeing a woman naked.” I shot back at him.
“Well, you’re right,” he said, pausing for a while, “but this is certainly the first time I'm seeing a bunch of ladies naked,” he replied.
I rolled my eyes in frustration as I took another climb. “Can we just go back to the reason we're here? And that’s to get Evie, huh?” I fired at him.
“Right, that's correct,” he replied, but I just responded with an eye roll.
When I got to the very last floor, it was different. I wasn't welcomed by the sight of maids, or guards, or a bunch of naked ladies; instead, I stood in front of a window that led somewhere - somewhere I was about to find out, I thought.
I slid it open; taking a step, I peeped on the inside, and thankfully there were fewer guards up here. I made my way down the hallway with rooms on both sides as I got to the balcony, staring down at the beauty of the interiors of the living room from up here. This place was definitely more than beautiful, far more beautiful than what I had back at the pack, I thought.
“Now I see the reason why Evie refused to go with you - I mean who would leave all this and go back to that pack house?” Jai's voice echoed in my head.
“Shut the fck up, Jai,” I fired at him. “She's a wolf and not a human; she certainly can’t keep hiding all her life, and tonight I'm going to make sure that human guy sees that,” I said through gritted teeth.
“What do you plan to do?” he asked, but I just ignored his question as I continued my journey.
I looked room after room until I locked eyes with a room slightly opened with voices echoing from inside. ‘This must be it,’ I said to myself as I moved closer, carefully choosing each step as I peeped through, but my eyes were certainly not ready for what I saw.
Right in front of me was that son of a btch in the arms of Evie, his hands clutching tightly to her back with a pendant in his hands while she wrapped her hands around him in a hug, patting his back lightly.
My whole world stood still. My heart shredded into a million pieces as I stared at them with glassy eyes; memories of how I patted her back and hair until she slept in my arms came flooding back into my mind. No, this can’t be right; she can’t just forget about me just like this because of a human after all we shared, I thought inwardly.
I batted my eyelids, fighting back the tears that threatened to fall, clutching my hands tightly until my knuckles turned white as I banged the door, pushing it wide open, making them both flinch with shock in their eyes as they stared at me in awe.
“Kieran?” Evie called out with furrowed brows.
“What the hell are you doing here!?” the human guy fired with a stern voice and blazing eyes. “Didn't you learn your lesson the last time, huh!!? And how the hell did you escape the guards?” he added.
“You know I can ask you the same question, right? What the hell are you doing with my MATE!!” I snarled.
