Chapter 111

Chapter 111
Ethan and Lucian

<<<<<<<<<<<<< Flashback continues >>>>>>>>>>>>

“Oh trust me you didn’t, because you’re going to get your taste of your share soon,” Alpha Lucian said, moving forward.

“It’s okay, Lucian, I got this one,” Arthur said, stepping forward.

“Oh really? Just like I got Diane and you knocked her out?” Lucian fired at him.

“Dude? You weren’t going to survive another blast from that machine if I hadn’t showed up,” Arthur replied.

“Well, guess you took care of that too?” he retorted.

“Could you two just stop bickering like children and decide who’s going to face the enemy in front of you?” Tracy fired at them.

“That’s enough,” I growled, making them all turn in my direction as I got up from Mom’s side. “No one is going to fight anyone, remember Alpha Lucian? You promised,” I said in a stern voice as we both stared at each other.

“What? Right now? She isn't even awake yet, son. How do you expect me to tell this to her if…” he tried to speak.

“You don't have to worry about that part now. Apparently the marriage never happened, so my mom still belongs with me and him,” I said, pointing to Alpha Kieran.

“What is he saying?” Arthur asked, turning his gaze back to Lucian. “What deal are the both of you talking about?” he added.

“Listen, Ethan, when I agreed to this it was because Evie was going to be my wife in the end and I was going to spend the rest of my life with her, and you could also visit us. So back then, it was because I’d still have a connection with you both either way, and I know she'll come to understand why I did it. But right now, things didn't go as planned; you can't possibly ask that from me anymore,” Alpha Lucian replied with glassy eyes, ignoring Arthur, who just stood there confused and Tracy, who by now had grabbed a chair to enjoy the show.

“Okay, now you both have to listen to me. I don't know what y'all have been smoking that gave y'all these ideas. But if there's one thing I know, it's that Evie isn’t going to like the fact that she's halfway through somewhere she doesn't know, away from this real world, and y'all are out here dictating what the next course of her life is going to be especially when it has to be with this man whom she despises with all her heart,” Arthur interjected.

“Watch your mouth now, beast, or else,” Dad growled.

“You should be the one doing that, because I'm sure I don't have to educate you on what a guardian beast can do?!” Arthur fired back.

“Enough!!” I sneered, my voice echoing loudly through the church hall. “My mom and I are going back to the pack, and that's final,” I added.

“You all heard my boy, so give me my mate,” Dad said.

“She may be your mate, but she's still my bride,” Alpha Lucian retorted, taking a defensive stance, his hands on the pendant ready to take it off if need be.

Knowing what that could do to me, I stepped in front of them. “Please, Alpha Lucian, don't make us depart as enemies; I beg you. Besides, what's all this fuss about? You never even loved my mom in the first place; she was just a tool to you,” I fired at him.

“That may be how we started, but that doesn't change what I feel for her now,” he replied.

“What about what you feel for her?” I said, pointing to Tracy, who by now looked shocked as all eyes in the room turned to her.

“Who?? Me???” she said with widened eyes. “Oh no, no, believe me I'm the last person Lucian feels anything for in this room,” she said with a shaky voice.

“Well, his heart says something different even now,” I replied, turning my gaze back to him.

“I - I don't know what you're talking about, son,” he replied.

“Don't you know?” I asked with raised brows. “I didn’t want to do this, Alpha Lucian, but you leave me no choice…. Because I heard how happy your heart beats the minute you saw her, and it seems like you haven't learned how to get a hold of your wolf, because I heard it clearly call her - mate,” I blurted out.

“What?” he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

“Oooohhh…. An Umbria wolf and a siren? That's quite a dangerous match…” Dad said softly, “but I guess I wouldn't have to worry about it unless you choose to take my mate away from me,” he added sternly.

“Alpha Lucian, please,” I said, staring at him with glassy eyes.

“Don’t do it, Lucian,” Arthur said. “Don't do it,” he added again.

“Oh please, Sir Arthur, don't let your feelings for my mom get in the way of your judgment on what's best for her,” I spat at him.

“What?!” Alpha Lucian exclaimed.

“I don't know what you're talking about, kid. Plus, since when did a ten-year-old now have to decide what is and what isn't best for his mother?” he fired back at me.

“Since I realized that no matter how she tries to hide it, we won't be able to fit in the human world,” I chimed. “My mom fled our pack because she felt rejected and betrayed. We came to the human world for safety until then humans started having questions, which made me land in a terrible system made for kids without proper care, which wasn't true. Mum made me be in classes with humans who test my patience every single day because she wasn’t willing to send me to a proper wolf school because my father may end up finding me one way or another…. I stayed with her, accepting all her terms and conditions, doing everything and anything just to make her happy until Alpha Lucian came,” I paused.

“At first, I thought he really loved my mom in the beginning, until I found out he was just using her to get into power as the mayor of Haven Hills. All our lives we've been running, betrayed, used; we've been going in one circle, and I won't sit and watch that continue,” I said.

“Now let me give you a hint of what's going to happen if I leave without her. She's going to eventually get married to Alpha Luvian, which at first would be great. But she's still going to feel empty. Why? Because her son isn't with her, and when she starts feeling this way, his heart would start drifting away from her back to his first love—Tracy over there—and once again, she'll be betrayed. And by then, I would have no choice but to burn the whole of Haven Hills and all its Mafia to the ground if that ever happens, notwithstanding who they are to me,” I said, looking directly into Alpha Lucian’s eyes.

“If that doesn't happen, you—Sir Arthur—would try to get her to love you this time and not just run away from your feelings, which is going to bring in more chaos and make you lose your powers as the guardian beast to Alpha Lucian. We both can agree that you really don't care about your family’s oath to his, so that wouldn't be a problem to you, and that equals more trouble and chaos,” I said.

“Now it takes me nothing to turn and go with my dad, even though I don't like the dude that much, but I can't leave when I know very well that my mom isn't going to fit in over here…. Like it or not, you've all spent your lives knowing human rules and living with them, including the siren lady, but my mom? All she knew until she was 18 was werewolf living, and she has a lot of stories to tell, but she keeps holding back because she doesn't want me to start craving for it. But what she fails to understand is that a werewolf would always be a werewolf, and I've been longing to know what that feels like all my life, and now that I finally have the chance to do so, I won't throw that out the window,” I explained.

For a minute, the air around us felt too thick to even breathe in as I panted in exhaustion, and they all looked at me in silence with no expression on their faces.

“Okay, you both gotta admit, the boy has a point,” Tracy the lady said.

“Of course, he’ll have a point now that you know you're going to have Lucian all to yourself again. Apparently, it's a win-win for you,” Arthur fired at her.

“Hold up, don't take it out on me now,” she sneered.

“You know what, I'm out of here…. I can't wait for Evie to wake up and hear what she thinks about all of this, and trust me when I say I wouldn't be too far when she does wake up…. And as for being your guardian beast—fuck all of that, fuck this power anyway. I never wanted it because nothing I ever do or did pleased you anyway. I'm just going to go ahead and take care of all these bodies, yet again clean up your mess after you, and the world would have to forget that this day ever happened thanks to your siren girlfriend,” he added before storming out of the church with speed, taking Lucian’s mother and father with him first.

Leaving me alone with my father, Lucian, Tracy, and Diane’s ass as she goes through her torment in the darkness, lying on the floor.

“So, Alpha Lucian, what is it going to be?” Dad asked with a grin on his face, but Lucian just looked away, biting his lower lip, trying to fight back the tears in his eyes as he stared at me.

“Look, man, I appreciate everything you've done for my family, and man to man, I'm not proud of the decisions I made a decade ago—but please give me a chance to fix things, and I promise from this day if y'all humans promise to stay clear of the east coast, you'd never have to worry about us ordinary wolves going against you, especially now that I know you're an Umbra wolf. Because of my mistake and where all of this has brought us, I'll make a pact with you and live by your rules if that guarantees our safety from the humans,” Dad said.

But Alpha Lucian just let out a deep sigh as he ran his hands through his hair. “I need your mate to do that,” he replied with a sharp voice.

“Oh man, you still don't understand how this works, now do you? Your wolf already chose a siren mate for you; that simply means she's who the goddess chose for you…” Dad explained.

“She betrayed me,” he fired back sternly.

“Okay, now man, I'm going to advise that you back up a little on that one because you're about to make the exact same mistake I made—I also thought Evie betrayed me, and that's what landed us all here…. Come on, man, let's end all of this because speaking from experience, I know there's a part of you that still agrees that you're still in love with her even though you despise her so much. Just agree to this, and you'll never have to see me again,” he said.

“Can I add something to all this?” Tracy asked with a shaky voice, but just got a stern look from Alpha Lucian that didn't quite say ‘go ahead,’ but she did anyway.

“Look, Lucian, I know you don't want me here after everything I've done, but you haven't even given me a chance to explain myself all these years…. You don't know the terror I went through in the hands of that woman right there all because I love you and I was trying to protect you, but if you don't want me, I understand. I'll leave and get out of your hair, but please don't deprive this lady and her son of the chance to see what it means to belong because I tried to for a long time before Diane’s family found out my supernatural secret and made me their prisoner for years just to get to you—please, I know you're better than this,” she added.

Alpha Lucian turned to me and then to my dad and said, “I'll let you take her to leave with you on one condition,” he began.

“Which is?” I asked.

“Whenever she wakes up, I want you to let her come see me, alone, so I can tell my side of the story and make sure she doesn't hate me for doing this to her. I think that would give her some kind of closure if she hears from me in all of this,” he said softly.

I looked at my dad, who gave a light nod, and with a smile, I said, “No problem, I'll make sure of that,” and with that, we turned to take our leave.
