Chapter 106

Chapter 106
Kieran

“What’s going on here? I should be the one asking you, Selene. What are you doing here?” I fired back at her…

She stared at me, confusion written all over her face. “Kieran, really? What have I done to deserve this? Of everything you’ve done and I’ve tolerated, you’re bluntly disrespecting me to my face?” She asked. At this point, her eyes were already becoming glassy…. “And with no other creature but a human?” She snarled, her wolf echoing Ming through the room in anger.

“Could you at least chill, Selene? We weren't doing anything. Besides, she was about to leave… we just concluded our meeting,” I replied.

“You just concluded your meeting with her this close to you? Holding your chin and kissing you? Do I have to remind you of the implications of what you're doing? Why does it seem like you're going crazy because of this obsession?” she fired at me.

“Watch your tone, woman! I'm your Alpha,” I growled in anger, shoving Diane to the side as I stared deeply into Selene’s eyes, but not with love.

She sniffed, pushing back the tears that threatened to fall as her gaze moved from me to Diane and then back. “You know what, Kieran? It's fine. I get it now; all of this is your fault,” she began. “It's my fault that I didn't see this demon in you those years ago. It's my fault that I framed Evie while still blinded by lust just to be with you. It's my fault that all of this ever happened in the first place…” she said softly.

“Oh really, so what took you so long to admit it? Why did you have to wait until now - why, Selene? After all I've done for you?!” I fired at her.

“Okay, Aloha, I'm going to stop you right there. All you've ever done for me in this relationship is abuse me emotionally and psychologically when all I tried to do was give my all, and for what? For an heir…” she snapped back.

“Uhm… I can see that this conversation has nothing to do with me and more to do with you creatures, so I'm just gonna bounce,” Diane's voice interrupted as she adjusted her jacket, preparing to leave.

“Call me a creature one more time!” Selene fired at her, her gaze firm and strong.

“That's enough, Selene!” I sneered, making her halt in her steps. “Diane, the guards will make sure you get home safe. Just make sure you are at the church on time. Is that okay? We'll go according to the plan…” I added.

“Yes, boss, whatever you say,” she said with a light chuckle as she staggered out of the room with loud mocking laughter.

I moved my gaze back to Selene. I sighed deeply as I stared at her. “Just go to your chamber, Selene. I have serious business to deal with by morning, and I really don't need all of this right now,” I said softly.

“You know what? It's okay… there would be no need for that. I'm just going to do what I came here for in the first place. If you go look outside right now, you'll see my luggage ready to leave this pack and go set my life back because this thing I'm doing with you, it's not a life… And that's why I just came here to tell you to relieve me of my duties as Luna of the pack,” she mumbled softly.

“What?!” I asked with furrowed brows. “Are you serious?!” I asked again just to be sure.

“I'm dead serious, Kieran. Good luck in getting your family back together,” she spat sternly, fury in her eyes.

I let out a light chuckle, moving my hands through my hair in amusement. I walked towards the door, turned the knob, and there it was—her luggage and her things ready to leave the pack.

I closed the door and turned to her in surprise. "You're serious,” I muttered under my breath, but she just turned softly in my direction as I watched the tears finally leave her eyes the minute she saw the joy on my face.

“Oh, my darling Luna,” I said, walking towards her with a broad smile on my face. “Oh, sorry, I mean Selene, because technically you'd love to be free from the shackles of being Luna. So, Selene, why didn't you think of this earlier? Or better said, why didn't you start with this?” I asked. She tried to speak, but I was quick to stop her. “You know what? Don't answer that. You don't have to because it doesn't matter right now. This calls for celebration. Evie would be so thrilled to hear this, knowing she wouldn't have to be in any competition with her evil stepsister?! THIS IS GREAT NEWS! You just made my night, Selene. Really, you just did. Tonight, I'm the happiest man in the universe right now… I LOVE YOU!” I yelled in excitement.

“So you're not even remorseful?” she asked with a shaky voice.

“Remorseful? Selene, did you just say remorseful? Where was that remorse when you watched me humiliate your sister in front of the whole pack? Where was that remorse when you connived with my parents to get rid of her? Huh?!” I fired back at her.

“Whatever you did to Evie was your choice. Now don't try to rub that on me. Yes, I agree that I had a role to play in that, but it wasn't like a spell was cast on you not to do your own research and see if the Evie you've known since childhood had really changed. But instead, you chose to buy the lie…. Why? Because deep down in you, you didn't trust her. You never trusted her from the moment you left for your Alpha training, so don't you dare put that on me!” she sneered.

In that moment, I paused, my mouth slightly opened. I suddenly became short of words, and my mind went blank. A part of me knew; a part of me didn't want to accept it. I knew that was the problem. I didn't want to agree with her, but deep down, I knew she wasn't totally wrong…

I had a huge role in this whole mess, and until I owned up to my mistakes, I didn't think Evie would ever forgive me. “Exactly my point. This is what you were missing when you went over to her house…. We suck at taking responsibility, Kieran. You can't get your family back even if you try a million times if you don't accept that you were wrong in all your dealings,” Jai chimed.

“At least for this, I know I'm better than you. I'm willing to own up to my mistakes after all these years. But you? You suck at it just like you're doing now, just like you're not ready to admit that you've been cruel to me all these years. Instead, you'd rather blame it on the fact that I didn't give you an heir for the pack. I pray deeply that Evie never accepts you back and you rot in loneliness, so you'd at least have a taste of what ten years with you felt like… Goodbye, Kieran,” she spat sternly. She walked up to the door, held the knob, and looked at me…

“Oh, you don't have to worry about the ceremony. I'd already given the maids instructions on what to do. I'll be awaiting your arrival to announce to the pack that we are no longer mates. It's obvious it's your honor to free me from the shackles of whatever this is. Say hello to your sister for me because even if she wouldn't say it, I know she'd be happy to hear about this new development…. I curse the day I became mates with you…” she added before storming out of the room.

I stared at the door, and in a swift motion, I turned and slammed my hands on the table. It's a good thing that almost everything in this room was spelled to prevent them from breaking; else this table wouldn't be standing right now….

Kieran, what have you done to yourself? What have you done?! I muttered under my breath.

You've lost everything, and somehow you've gotten into more sht trying to save yourself from the previous sht you got into….

First, it was about getting Evie back until I saw her son. Next, it was about getting my boy back. Then it was about killing the Umbria wolf she's supposedly in love with, and now somewhere in this same pack house, the witches/seers on their deathbeds are making a hybrid baby. I almost got seduced by a human, and my ex-mate just dumped my ass, which technically is great news. I've fought different wars over the years, but why is the war with myself feeling like the greatest to overcome? I wondered.

I stayed a bit longer in the conference room before making my way out to my chamber. I freshened up, wore my best clothes, and made my way outside to let the pack know that by tomorrow they are getting a new Luna, their rightful Luna…

“Dear citizens of the strongest pack in the whole of this city, my mate here has made a very remarkable request of me that I wouldn't hesitate to grant. But before I do that, it's best I tell you who your Luna truly is,” I began, and with that, I began narrating to them all how everything started and where Evie and my son are, and in so doing, I prepared them for the war by morning.

“Now that you all know how cruel she was, I hereby release her from her duties as Luna and break all connections the goddess may have partially given us,” I announced in a loud voice, and with that, she stormed out of the crowd, took her things and some compensation I gave her out of the goodness of my heart, and left…

“Good riddance, Selene,” I mumbled under my breath as I watched her leave.

“Now let's all rejoice and get prepared to go get your real Luna back tomorrow, TO A NEW AND FRESH BEGINNING!” I said, raising a toast to the sky.

“TO A NEW BEGINNING!” they all chorused.
