Chapter 70 THE PRISONER
SIANNA'S POV
The house does not feel the same since Vance left three weeks ago. It is huge and the suffocating silence is unbearable. Touching base with Duke and Blayne was my way of knowing the daily reports and activities of the pack.
Using my Luna command on my friends and relatives was harsh, but Vance needed to understand the consequences of his actions. I am not going to lie, because it was torture without him here. I missed him, and when I cry at nights, it ached more because he was the only comfort that my wolf wanted. I'm falling apart but I continue to treat Vance with disinterest because right now, our relationship was deep in the trenches.
I hope that our parents, Hailey and Duke will forgive me for swearing them to silence, while I dealt Vance his punishment. They are the only people allowed to come on the property. Mom stops by every night to check in with me and sometimes she stays
over.
Although Hailey and I speak frequently, she is focusing on her relationship with Raj. Hailey reasoned that it would be preferable for them to be apart until he made up his mind whether or not to stay with our pack. Otherwise, if they were always together, their attachment would grow stronger.
It was peculiar that Hailey and I had similar ordeals with our babies and mates. The Wolversons visit once a week. They plead for me to let Vance return home. Since leaving this place, he has hardly been seen. Duke and Blayne are also worried about him. He explained to them that he was occupied dealing with the council and the guilty witch in addition to warning them about the repercussions of harming his people.
I was in the kitchen with a glass of orange juice in my hand, thinking of the turns of my life. For the first week, Vance had not mind-linked me in any attempt to beg his way back into our home. It was the second week that I felt him plowing in my head daily, giving me constant headaches and sleepless nights. The battle was against him and my wolf, and being the victor gave me no joy.
With that said, mom recommended some homemade stamina drinks to give my body the required nutrients to maintain my health. Mom, Dad, and Hailey were the ones on my side. They did not pester me with pleas about Vance learning his lesson and that he should be home. He stayed at the pack house but has been out of territory most days.
My phone rang and I answered. "Hello."
"Hi, Luna." The voice belonged to Duke. "I called to find out if there is anything that you might need for the night."
It was either him or Blayne that habitually checked in with me. "I am fine, Duke. Everything is okay here."
"Good, I am about to turn in for the night." Our conversations were usually short unless there was a pressing matter to discuss. "I hope that you get some sleep tonight."
I chuckled, "I am learning to take short naps since a longer one is out of the question. Thanks for calling."
"Sure, good night."
"Duke, wait," I hoped that I caught him before he ended the line.
"Yes," he sighed, and just want to go to Keisha. She was blessed with the news that she is expecting their first child. Honestly, I was delighted with them.
"Who is the prisoner that Blayne took in? Was that person the witch that cursed my son?" I haven't been able to leave my house. The omega Sammy and mom did the shopping for me.
Blayne and Duke had been ordered by Vance to keep me away from the cells. Naturally, it heightened the inclination to visit the dungeon and see who this prisoner was.
"No, she is not the witch." He uttered flatly.
"So it's a female," I realized, "Does she have anything to do with what happened to my son?"
He was silent, then casually replied, "Luna, we are taking care of it. What I can promise is that when we are executing her, you will be there."
"Who is she?" I think that I should know that at least.
"Luna Sianna, I am sorry but I can't get into it with you." He drawled, being cautious to give limited information.
"Fine," I sighed, it was easier for me to get my way with Blayne than with Duke, so I gave up on making any further effort. " When Vance leaves the territory, where does he go?"
"He found the witch that helped Chloe, but she's in the custody of the council. He is trying to find a way to get the upper hand in serving her the death penalty." Duke told me, "He wants to wrap this up so he can come home to you."
"Who says that I am letting him come back?" I snickered. "I am not done making him pay."
"I understand. Is there a message that you would like me to give Vance?" He asks the same question every time he calls. As his best friend, he wanted us to patch things up so we can both be happy.
Thinking about it, sending a message would give him hope that we might reconcile soon. The no-contact rule applied in this situation, so I said, "No. Good night Duke."
After that call, I made it to the bedroom. Sleeping in the master bedroom had been impossible since I delivered my lifeless child. Currently, I take my slumber in the room that was reserved as the nursery. I can't seem to sleep in any other room.
I walked over to the cradle. Forgetting that terrible night would probably never be erased from my memory. Perhaps when justice is served, I will be able to move on.
Now, there must be a way to elude the guards to get into the cell. I want to know who that woman is, and what role did she play in Chloe's scheme? Mom already stopped by and I was tired as hell. Weariness was an ailment that seemed incurable based on what I was enduring.
Crawling into bed, I pulled the covers over. Sleeping alone was unendurable, the bed was cold and missing the heat of my mate. My heart pangs whenever I thought of Vance.
Frankly speaking, my heart longs for him and I do love him, but I resist giving in. Am I acting too irrationally? In my opinion, not at all. He ran off to his ex while I needed him. If he hadn't gone to save her, he wouldn't have fallen victim and hurt our family.
When it was about Curtis, he got so mad every time that I was around him, yet he held a soft spot for that devilish woman. Curtis was willing to raise my baby with me if I decided to run away with him. Yet, on Vance's end, his ex played with my child's life as security to latch onto Vance with a spellbound bond. Blayne related the details of what happened while pleading for Vance's sake, which was useless.
Knowing all of his ex-girlfriends, or "fuck buddies," as he called them, was not a necessity. I hadn't anticipated them to be a problem, but after everything, I wanted a list of every single one of them that was in our pack. I was going to personally message every one of them, starting with whoever was in the dungeon's cell.
I drifted into dreamland.
^~~~^
"Blayne, where are you?" I asked through the phone, sipping my hot morning tea. Today I was pumped up, and eager to accomplish my quest.
"I'm at the mall with Zoe and Cleo," It was good that his mate had finally accepted him. Blayne now had his family.
A smile touched my lips knowing that my Gamma was growing into his new role as father and mate. "Where's Vance?"
"He went to another council's meeting." The background was noisy but I managed to maintain the call.
"Where's Duke?" I was hoping that he would be preoccupied too.
"Keisha had an appointment with the obstetrician in town, so he drove her. Um, if you need me I can rush over." His voice lowered in disappointment. I sense the hesitation in his tone.
"No, don't do that. Please enjoy your time with your family. By the way, I am happy for you." That was to restore his delight and keep him out of my way.
"Are you sure you don't want me to do anything for you?" He sought affirmation.
"Yes, we will talk later." This was good for me. "Say hi to the girls for me, bye."
"Thanks, Luna," He beamed, "Will do."
The attire for today was black leggings and a black cotton lace-hem top. Glancing at the clock, it was 9:30 am and I tapped my fingers on the counter from anxiety because I needed to get this day started.
Just in time, the doorbell rang, and I ran over to it to greet Rionna at the door.
"Hi, Sianna. There was some traffic in getting here." She removed her scarf and jacket and placed them into the coat closet to the side of the doorway.
"Thank you for coming. I will be out for a few minutes taking care of an errand." I hugged her in the doorway and kissed her cheek. "I won't be long."
Rushing out left a bewildered mother-in-law at home. Mom would have grilled me with reams of questions that I was not inclined to answer. Rionna was subtle, or perhaps she spoils me, so she was my best option to leave at the house.
Today was about one thing. Visiting the cells to speak to that woman. If the guards were told to bar me from visiting her, they would mind-link Blayne and Duke. Therefore, I may have to use my Luna command to forbid them to do so.
After arriving at the pack house, I parked in my reserved spot and got out of the convertible. Another five minutes, I was in the dungeon. Rohan, an Elite, guarded the main entrance when he spotted me and bowed politely.
"Hello Luna, how may I help you?" He asked graciously.
"I would like a tour of the cells," I looked around to identify the other guards. My eyes locked with his amber eyes, and with my powerful aura channeling out, I commanded, "You are not allowed to inform anyone that I am here. Now, please walk me
through."
His eyes flickered from the effectiveness of my command. He unhook the keys from the loop of his pants and opened the iron- barred entrance gate. "This way, Luna."
Stepping through the gate, I followed him down the dark corridor, passing the first ten empty cells. As we walked onward, I slowed my strides to carefully scan each prisoner. "Is there a prisoner that was taken in recently who had a hand in what transpired between Alpha Vance and Chloe?"
Rohan's discomfort was conspicuous enough to hint that he did not want to take me there. "That cell is off limits, Luna." "I must see that prisoner," I sternly told him, with a hard look.
"Alpha Vance......" He began to say but I was pressed for time, and I was not cut out for this foolishness.
"I don't want to hear it. Take me to her now." Unintentionally, my low voice echoed through the underground rooms. Reluctantly, he nodded, turned around, and led me through a concealed door, down a flight of steps into a large black room. Three hanging lights brightened the room to reveal the woman kneeling on the ground with her hands held in the air by silver
chains.
"Rohan, who is the other Elite that is in charge of guarding with you?"
"Wade, Luna." Concern saturated his eyes. He was worried that he would get into trouble with the Gamma Blayne.
"Mind-link him to guard the entrance for you. But I want you here with me." I walked toward the woman cautiously. The first intention was to know who the hell she was.
"Yes, Luna." When Rohan responded, I barely heard.
Her head bent down to the ground and her unkempt red hair obscured any visual of her face. I walked until I stood in front of her. Upon realizing that her feet were also bounded by silver chains, I touched her chin with my finger and raised her face to
meet mine.
Hazel eyes locked with my blue sapphire ones, and I analyzed her face, subtracting the bruises and crusted dirty blood. I almost fainted when I recognized the tortured woman before me, as Jazmine. 2
She was Curtis' mate from the Crimson Hyde Pack, and the very reason for the demise of our relationship. Goosebumps materialized on my body, as a chilly shudder rushed through me.
As the myriad of thoughts stormed through my brain, I tried to put the puzzle together. Failing to do so, I blinked down at her,
only to be met with a frigid smirk on her face.
"What the fuck?"
