Chapter 28 The Mate I Didn't Choose.

Chapter 28 The Mate I Didn't Choose.

Jayden
What on earth was she doing here, and why the hell did she come at the exact moment when she was leaving the house. I didn't even know what else to do about the whole thing anymore. I was confused, and I didn't want to welcome her, but I guess she let herself in.

“Jayden," she called calmly. Her smile seemed to broaden despite the confusion on her face when she saw the woman leaving my house.

As Naida left, I noticed she bumped into someone, extending her greetings, and the only person I expected was no one else than her.

Mary was standing before me with a serious look on her face. She seemed to have a lot she wanted to talk about, but I guess it wasn't really possible because she noticed the expression on my face.

"You don't seem happy, what's the matter,” she started, but when I didn't answer her, I noticed she was even more desperate to know whatever was going on with me now.

“Who was the last I met on my way into the house? I really would love to know her. She seemed to be in a hurry, what do you think about that?"

I didn't even say a thing. I was tired and worried about how it was going to be, but there was no need to panic because I had planted the necessary seed I needed. Well, the truth was that the girl in front of me wasn't someone I fancied.

Yes, she helped me a lot, but I finally found the person I wanted to be with, and I didn't mind doing whatever it took to get her to be by my side.

I exhaled, and walked away from her like I didn't see her, but she followed me like she wasn't even getting what I had said earlier.

"You didn't answer me. I have been coming here for a while now, and this is the first time I'm seeing a lady in your home. Aren't you going to explain to me who she is?"

I stopped in my tracks, and immediately rolled my eyes. Well I didn't expect things to be so serious, but I guess it was anyways.

I was stunned about how things went. About how she had started to question me. It seemed she didn't know what was going on. Well I didn't know what else to say. I guess I didn't have any choice at this point.

“Well, you don't really know what you want. I have a feeling there's definitely something up, but you really don't want to tell it to me. You aren't a social person,so she can't be your friend, and relative…" she paused, and stared at me. “You told me you didn't have any relatives. Remember?"

At this point, she seemed to be getting on my nerves, so I swiftly turned around, and yelled, making her stop in her tracks.

She flinched, unable to believe how I behaved towards her.

“Can you quit asking too many questions? It's annoying, and you're coming off as desperate. I really don't care about what you think. I don't owe you any explaination.”

She blinked. “I know you don't but at least don't I deserve to know who the lady is? She seems new to the packs and why was she wearing a cloak?”

She was still asking a lot of questions which got me really annoyed. “Are you going to pretend? That lady is obviously someone close to you, and I deserve to know.”

She paused, and shook her head. It seemed assumptions were already getting the better of her. “Is she the reason why you don't want anything to do with me anymore?" She asked, and I snapped my head towards her with anger in my eyes.

However, when I noticed the tears in her eyes, I didn't bother to say anything more so she could think what she wanted to.

"Maybe it's your sister. Yes, maybe your cousin, or something.”

I immediately corrected the notion she was trying to paint. “I know you're trying to guess, but let me make it a bit easier for you. She's my long lost love, and the moongoddess brought her back to me, so you better–”

She shook her head. "It seems like you don't understand what I feel for you," she was still trying to be strong, but her defence was going weak because her voice had started to break. She tried to control herself, and she tried to control her pacing chest as well.

"I have always loved you from the onset. Please tell me you're joking," she said to me, moving closer, but when she tried to touch me, I pulled away. I didn't want anyone. Coming close to me.

“You really don't need to worry about anything, you just have to leave and not show your face here again because I'll have to explain to her who you are, and that's not something I like to do.”

No words were said, and I tried to organise myself, but it didn't seem to be working out. She stood there frozen, sobbing, but that wasn't all. She was so dramatic, and when she sensed that I was a bit worried about everything else, she exhaled, trying to play strong.

"You're joking now. Tell me it's a joke please…" her tears gathered again, this time she was kneeling on the floor with her eyes staring into mine.

I didn't know why she did that, but I turned my face away from her.

“You deserve someone who would love you more than I would. I don't think I can bring myself to love you.”

I sensed it. Her heart was almost in pieces. She tried to pick up the pieces in her life, but she didn't seem like she could.

“I know and I appreciate the love you're already giving to me. I'm madly in love with you. I can't help it. Your scent, your presence. I want you so much…"

Could she stop talking already for the love of everything?

She confessed, and just then she muttered the words I had been ignoring all the while.

“Mate…" I looked up sharply to be sure I wasn't just hearing things. Did she really say that? Oh dear goddess. This is bad. This is really bad.

“No, no no!" I shook my head as I pulled away from her. This wasn't what I was expecting. I knew that there was already a lot involved, but now that she cried our mate, lowering her head as she tried to process things.
