The Flame Between Us
The Flame Between Us
Reyna's POV
The moment the door closed behind us, something changed.
I stood very still. My heart was pounding in my chest. The room was quiet, but the silence felt heavy, like it was pressing down on me. I could hear my own breathing. Fast. Shaky.
The air was warm. Soft lights glowed on the walls, and there were candles burning in small glass jars. They made the room feel calm, almost peaceful. But my body didn’t feel calm.
Draven didn’t speak. He stood behind me, giving me space. I felt his eyes on me, watching. Not judging. Just waiting.
I took a step forward. My eyes moved across the room. Everything looked strange, but not scary. There were ropes, cuffs, and leather straps hanging neatly on the wall. A bench in the corner. A big bed with metal rings on the headboard. Everything was clean. Beautiful, in a way I didn’t expect.
My fingers itched. I wanted to touch something. I didn’t know why.
Why wasn’t I scared?
I swallowed hard. My chest rose and fell quickly. I could feel heat in my cheeks. My hands were cold, though. I rubbed them together.
I looked at Draven.
He didn’t move. His face was calm, but his eyes… they were dark. Focused. Like he was holding himself back. His jaw was tight. His arms crossed.
He looked strong. Not just his body. His presence.
He made me feel something I couldn’t name. Like I was walking on the edge of something deep.
"This is where you bring them?" I asked quietly, my voice barely above a whisper.
He shook his head once. "I haven’t brought anyone here in a long time."
My throat felt dry. I nodded slowly, not knowing what to say.
I walked closer to the wall. My fingers brushed over a soft leather strap. It was smooth. I pictured it wrapped around my wrist and quickly pulled my hand back.
But the image didn’t leave my mind.
My body reacted before my thoughts caught up. My thighs pressed together. I was embarrassed by the way my body warmed.
I turned around. "Do you want to use these... on me?"
Draven stepped closer. His voice was low. "Only if you ask me to."
That answer made something flutter in my stomach.
I shook my head. "I don’t know what I want."
"You don’t have to know," he said gently. "You just have to feel."
I looked at him, really looked. His face was soft now. His eyes... they weren’t just dark. They were open. Patient.
"I don’t want to leave," I whispered. My voice cracked.
He moved slowly. Reached into a drawer. Pulled out a small black box. When he opened it, there was a thin silver collar inside. Simple. Elegant.
My breath caught.
"This," he said, "is never forced. It means you trust me. That you want to give yourself. Not because I ask, but because you choose."
The room spun a little. Not in a dizzy way. Just... deep. Like I was sinking into something soft.
"I’ve never trusted anyone like this," I said. "But I feel safe with you. And that scares me."
Draven stepped closer. He didn’t touch my face. He didn’t kiss my lips. He took my wrist. Lifted it gently. And kissed it.
Soft. Slow. Warm.
I felt my knees go weak.
Draven moved behind me, his presence like heat just barely touching my skin. He didn’t rush, didn’t speak right away. I felt his fingers graze the back of my arm—just a whisper of contact—and it made my breath hitch. “Every piece in here,” he said softly, his voice close to my ear, “has a purpose. Nothing is for pain unless pain is asked for. It’s about control… surrender… trust.” His words wrapped around me like silk, dark and heavy. I turned slightly, just enough to see the serious look in his eyes—the careful way he watched me, like he was reading my every breath, my every shift. “Some people see a room like this and think it’s only about power,” he continued, “but for me… it’s about presence. About listening. Feeling. Giving someone the space to fall apart and still be held.” His hand hovered just over my waist, not touching yet, and that restraint—his deliberate waiting—was more intimate than if he’d grabbed me. My heart thudded in my chest, not from fear, but from something deeper. Anticipation. Curiosity. A flutter of want. I didn’t look away from him, even as my face grew warm. “So this is who you are?” I asked, my voice quiet, unsure. He nodded once, slowly. “It’s a part of me. One I don’t show lightly. But I want you to see it… all of it.” I felt a tremble move through me, not from cold—but from the storm he stirred inside. Still, I didn’t step back. I tilted my head slightly, lips parted, heart wide open. I didn’t fully understand what this meant yet, but the energy between us pulsed, thick and electric. And somewhere deep inside, I knew—I didn’t want to run. I wanted to learn. With him
I didn’t know what was happening. I only knew I wanted it to happen more.
"I’m not ready to give you everything," I said honestly. "But I want to stay."
Draven smiled. A small, real smile. He nodded, like he understood more than I said.
I reached out without thinking, letting my fingers brush one of the soft leather cuffs hanging from a polished hook on the wall. The touch sent a strange shiver down my spine—not from fear, but from the weight of meaning behind it. I imagined what it would feel like, the way it might wrap around my wrist, holding me in place not out of force, but because I chose it. My cheeks burned, but I didn’t pull away. Instead, I looked back at Draven. His eyes met mine, deep and steady, filled with something I couldn’t name but wanted to drown in. “And if I get scared?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. He stepped closer, his hand finally resting on the small of my back, firm and warm. “Then we stop. No questions. No hesitation,” he said, his voice like velvet and fire. “You’ll always be in control here, even when I’m the one guiding you.” The way hespoke made my stomach flutter, but not with nerves — with something deeper, heavier. It was trust he was offering, wrapped in silk and shadow. My breath caught as he leaned in, his mouth grazing the shell of my ear, his voice lowering to a whisper meant only for me. “This room isn’t just about what I want to do to you, Reyna. It’s about what you’ll allow me to unlock — the parts of you that crave more, that ache to surrender without fear.” His words made my thighs clench, made heat bloom between them, and I hated how easily my body reacted. Or maybe I didn’t. Maybe I loved it — the way he saw past every mask I wore, speaking straight to the part of me I tried to bury. My heart thudded loudly in my chest, and I could feel every inch of him without even being touched. I looked up at him, my lips parted, my breathing uneven. “I’ve never done this before,” I admitted, voice shaky. He smiled then — slow, dark, but soft in a way I hadn’t seen before. “I know,” he said, brushing his knuckles down the side of my neck. “And I’ll teach you everything. But only if you want it.” The room around us felt like it had stilled, like the air itself had stopped breathing, waiting for me to say yes.
He took my hand, laced his fingers with mine.
We walked out of the room together. The door clicked shut behind us.
But inside me, something opened.
