The Room

The Room
POV: Draven

Her voice is soft, almost a whisper.

“Then show me.”

Those three words wrap around my spine like silk and steel. They’re gentle, but they hold a kind of strength — like she’s daring me. Trusting me. And that scares me more than anything else in this world.

For a long second, I just look at her.

Reyna.

The girl with too-big eyes and a fire she tries to hide behind silence. The girl who sees more than she should. The girl I never meant to want.

And yet… here she is.

Standing in front of me, willing to follow me into a part of my world that no one else has seen.

Not even my own blood.

My throat tightens. I nod once, short and sharp, then reach for her hand. She gives it to me — without hesitation. That alone almost undoes me.

I don’t speak. I can’t. If I open my mouth, I don’t know what I’ll say.

Instead, I lead her away from the fire, down the hall.

The corridor is long and quiet. Shadows stretch across the floor. Our footsteps are soft against the wood. Her palm is small in mine, but warm. Steady. Like she's not scared. Not even a little.

She should be.

Not because I’d hurt her. Never that.

But because what I’m about to show her… it’s not pretty. It’s not sweet.

It’s me. The real me.

The one I bury under sharp suits and colder stares.

We stop in front of a door at the end of the hall. It’s different from the others — heavier, darker, the wood thick and carved with designs no one ever looks closely at.

I reach under my shirt and pull out the small silver key around my neck. It’s always with me. Always close. Like a chain to the part of myself I keep locked away.

I hesitate.

Her fingers tighten slightly around mine. Not tugging. Not urging.

Just letting me know she’s still here.

I glance down at her. She’s watching me with those big, patient eyes. No judgment. No fear.

Just… waiting.

So I slide the key into the lock.

Click.

The sound is louder than it should be. It echoes in my chest like a heartbeat.

I push the door open.

A soft creak fills the space, and warm air brushes against us like a breath. Candlelight glows from inside — low and golden, flickering shadows across the room.

I step aside.

“You go first,” I say quietly.

She looks up at me. Then steps forward, slow and careful, like she’s entering a sacred place.

And in a way… she is.

She walks in, and I follow.

The door clicks shut behind us.

Silence. Except for the crackle of candles.

The room is exactly how I left it. Clean. Still. Waiting.

The walls are lined with dark shelves and hooks, leather cuffs hanging neatly beside silk ropes and velvet blindfolds. A wooden cross leans against one wall, unused for years. In the center, a deep burgundy rug spreads out beneath a heavy four-poster bed. The sheets are black. The headboard has metal rings built into the wood.

It’s not ugly.

It’s not dirty.

It’s just honest.

I watch Reyna as she looks around.

She doesn’t gasp. Doesn’t flinch. She just… looks.

Her fingers trail lightly over the edge of a bench by the wall, brushing against soft velvet. Her eyes move slowly, taking everything in. I can see her thoughts — not racing, but turning over each piece, trying to understand.

I stay quiet.

Let her feel.

Let her decide.

My hands are in fists at my sides. Not from anger — from nerves. My chest is tight, my stomach turning in slow knots.

I never let anyone in here.

Never.

This room is mine. It's the only place that ever felt like control. Like truth.

But right now? It feels like I’ve peeled my skin off and handed it to her.

She turns to me finally. Her voice is low. Careful.

“You use all this?”

I nod. “I used to.”

“Why not anymore?”

I swallow. Look away for a second, then back at her.

“Because it stopped meaning something… without trust. Without real connection. And I couldn’t do it if it felt empty.”

Her gaze doesn’t shift.

She’s not scared.

She’s not leaving.

I step forward, slow.

“I brought you here because you asked,” I say. “But also because… I need you to see this part of me. Before anything else happens.”

She lifts her chin slightly. “Why?”

“Because when I touch you again…” My voice drops. I can feel the heat start to crawl up my neck. “I won’t want to stop. And you need to know what you’d be giving yourself to.”

She breathes in. Her chest rises. Her lips part.

But still, no fear.

Only… curiosity. And something else.

Something I don’t want to name yet.

I move closer. Just close enough to feel her warmth.

“I won’t rush you,” I whisper. “This room doesn’t open unless you want it to. You have all the power right now, Reyna. If you want to leave, we’ll leave.”

Her eyes lock on mine.

I swear, she sees everything. Every crack. Every darkness I try to hide.

And she still doesn’t look away.

Then, softly, she says, “You’re not who I thought you were.”

That stings. But not in a bad way.

“I know,” I murmur. “I’ve spent years building walls to make sure of that.”

She steps closer. Close enough that her chest brushes mine.

She tilts her head up.

“I like the truth better.”

I stop breathing for a second.

My hands ache to touch her. My whole body is tense with the need to feel her skin. To see how far she’ll let me go.

But I don’t move.

Instead, I reach up — slowly — and place my palm against her cheek. Her skin is warm. Silky. Her eyes flutter closed.

I press a kiss to her forehead.

Just that.

Just one soft, careful promise.

She leans into it.

And I know — I know — she feels it too.

When I pull back, she opens her eyes.

I speak low, right at her ear. “When you’re ready to give yourself to me… you’ll beg for it, little moon. And I’ll ruin you sweetly.”

She shivers.

And I know she won’t run.

Not now.

Not ever.

I won't let her.
