Chapter 122: feeling the bond
Chapter 122: feeling the bond
Cara pov
It's been a month since I came to the secret community. Emelda or a.k.a Julia, the leader and the only tru blood, had agreed to train me. Since then, we have been having intense and serious training. Every day, the only time I rest is when I need to go take a pee.
Everything has been going great. I had made some friends, though, only Martin and my personal maid that she assigned to me. Vivian. My life had transformed into a repetitive cycle of training, eating, and collapsing into bed, only to wake up and do it all over again.
I have learned a lot of things and their culture. I must say Emelda, or rather Julia, was a very strong cupbearer, hence her status as their leader.
“Cara, concentrate on calling fought your inner bloodline.” Emeldas hard voice reached me where I was standing still. Holding my breath as instructed. I try to feel the inner power in me.
Emelda had told me about the first Cupbearers to ever exist, “the special child”. According to her, he was the only pureblood to have lived until the clash between home and Fenrir, the then king of the werewolf. According to her, the battle was termed the legendary duel, as mountains were leveled and trees were uprooted. It was a battle of the legends. “ She had said, with tears drop8ng from her eyes.
“Cara, concentrate on calling forth your inner bloodline!” Emelda's sharp voice cut through the stillness, pulling me out of my thoughts.
I stood in the training circle, my body trembling from the exertion. Holding my breath as instructed, I tried to focus inward. I had learned so much about the Cupbearer bloodline over the past month, but understanding and execution were two very different things.
Emelda had told me the story of the first Cupbearer to ever exist, the special child.
“He was the only pureblood to have ever lived,” she’d said during one of our sessions, her voice heavy with reverence. “His power was unmatched, and his presence brought both awe and fear. But his existence wasn’t without its challenges.”
I remembered the way her expression had softened, tears glistening in her eyes as she continued.
“The special child fought Fenrir, the king of the werewolves at the time, in what was later called the Legendary Duel. Mountains were leveled, trees uprooted… Their battle shook the very earth. It was a clash that defined the course of history for both Cupbearers and werewolves.”
I didn't know what to say then. The weight of such a legacy felt almost unbearable, especially when I was struggling to even summon the smallest fraction of my own power.
“Cara!” Emeldas voice snapped me back to the present. “Did you hear me? Close your eyes and focus!”
Training with rosalin had been everything but pleasant. Though I had wanted such harsh training. I wanted to pass my limit. I pushed myself harder each day, revenge burning brighter like the sun. I want to avenge the death of my loved ones.
I swallowed hard and obeyed, closing my eyes and steadying my breathing. I have been standing like this for over three hours. My muscles ached, and my mind was clouded with doubt, but I pushed it all aside. And I try to focus on grabbing that fire. Bending it to my will.
Focus, Cara, I told myself. You can do this.
At first, there was nothing but silence. I reached deep within, searching for the fire, until I saw it. It was there flickering like it was about to die. I could sense a feeling ofdeep-rootedd pride from it, almost like it was alive.
“I have seen it!” I shouted,
“Hold on to it, caress it, feel feelings, memorize how it feels…”
I shut down all surrounding sound. I know what to do, I was looking for my battle form. I was meant to understand that every haIf blood, trueblood has a battle form. It was a battle instinct passed down by the first pureblood. I just had to feel my power, then fuse with it.
I tried the first, second passed, then the third, but still to no avail. I could not get close to it. talk of, caressing it. Grating my teeth, I continued anyway, enduring the pain that felt like my whole body was on fire.
And then I felt it.
It was faint at first, like the whisper of a breeze, but it quickly grew stronger. My consciousness started to fuse with the fire. A warmth spread through my chest, familiar yet strange, and I was enveloped in a sensation I hadn’t felt since the dream of the white-haired man. It was as though I was on the brink of something monumental, something that could change everything. It was rich and a little intoxicating.
Just as I reached out to grasp it, a sharp pain tore through me.
I gasped, clutching my abdomen as the sensation exploded into agony. My knees buckled, and I fell to the ground, my screams echoing through the training hall. The pain was unlike anything I’d ever experienced, and it felt as though my very essence was being torn apart. And the worst of all, it came from the mating bond.
“Cara!” I faintly heard Rosalin’s voice, but it was distant, almost drowned out by the roar of my own pain.
“Brian!,”
My vision blurred, and the world around me faded as darkness claimed me.
When I woke, my body felt heavy, and my head throbbed. The ceiling above me was unfamiliar, but the scent of herbs and the faint hum of magic told me I was in the healer’s quarters.
“You’re awake,” Emelda's voice said from somewhere nearby.
I turned my head and saw her sitting by my bedside, her expression unreadable.
“What… what happened?” I asked, my voice hoarse.
“You pushed yourself too hard,” she replied, her tone clipped. “You tried to access your bloodline before you were ready.”
“I felt it,” I whispered. “For a moment, I felt it…”
“What did you feel? Cara tell me?” Emelda leaned forward. I could feel her haste.
“I felt the bond, our mating bond, I felt Brian, but he was in pain…”
My voice cracked. I swore the excruciating pain was from the mating bond. I had thought that Brian was dead, but today confirmed that he was still hanging on. And he was undergoing extreme pain.
Emelda's eyes softened slightly. “Oohh, i see”
“Let's continue training, I am okay now” I tried standing up from the bed.
“Cara, wait. Power like ours doesn’t come easily. You can’t force it, Cara. It has to come naturally, in its own time.”
I frowned, frustration bubbling up inside me. “I don’t have time to wait. Every day I’m not strong enough is another day I can’t protect myself and another day that brian will be undergoing excruciating pain.”
Her gaze darkened, and for a moment, I saw a flicker of something, pain, maybe? “Revenge is aone-sidedd sword,” she said quietly. “But for love, it could also be a strong motivator.”
Her words lingered in the air, heavy with unspoken meaning. I wanted to argue, to tell her that I didn’t have the luxury of caution, but the next thing she said, stoped me in my tracks.
“Get ready, phase two has just began”
