Chapter 121: Emelda?

Chapter 121: Emelda?

Cara pov

The enigmatic and mysterious leader that Martin has been telling me all about was no other person than Emelda, the female elder of Brian's former pack. I stared in shock, not believing what I was seeing, as I tried to connect how I could have seen it coming.

When I was summoned by the elders, they all wanted to control me. At that time, Emelda was in between , acting as the only mediator between Brian and the elders, but It couldn't have shown anything about her being a cupbearer. And let's not forget the pull I felt to Debby, even without knowing, I had unconsciously been drawn closer to her, but Emelda…

“I know what you are thinking. There are lots of things that are beyond knowing just from instincts” she said softly.

“Do you?…, can you also read my mind?” I snapped, but she smiled at me, waving the now rigid warriors who were rigid from my earlier outburst.

“Leave us” she commanded.

“But leader she…” a commander stepped forward.

“Are you saying I am too weak in front of an armature?” the cupbearer leader, no Emelda questioned, her face contorted with rage. An Intangible pressure filled the room, bearing down onto hw man who had stepped out.

“I am sorry, leader”

“Now leave” , without wasting time, they scurried out like frightened chickens without looking back. The hall descended into silence.

“Sorry for what happened,” she apologized, “I know you have a lot of questions, and I would answer them. Follow me”.

We walked through the pack, I looked in wonder as people scurried to greet their leader, making way as we passed.

“So ask me whatever you want”

“The mysterious figure that gave me the vial in the forest, was it you?” I asked the question that has been burning in my mind since.

“Yes, I am the one”

“Why?” I asked sharply, “you followed me?”.

“You are the pureblood, the only pureblood that comes in centuries, how could I not help you deal with your abilities. At least that is the least I could do, as a leader”. She answered, but I felt there was still more to the story, but I had to drop it now.

“Brian's pack…, you were an elder, how?. How did you evade everybody from knowing what you are?”

She took a deep sigh before she answered. “At the days of tribulation. The time that all Cupbearers were being hunted. We were in hiding, with no hope of survival. We died of hunger more than we were hunted. So, we planned to infiltrate the outside world to get power to aid us in our survival.” She paused, looking at me with an intense gaze

My heart pounded widely, and unshed tears filled my eyes. I clenched my fist hard beside me, willing myself to stay calm and listen to her story.

“Many were sent. As warriors as children, as abandoned children. But when it didn’t work out, We started sending out family. At first, it was a success. Many, many years, we used the same tactic, sending out families who lived among the outside world. They were doing well until a day came when the usurpation of powers came.”

“It was a dark moment in Ellorin, as the most powerful dnthe strongest pack in Ellorin was undergoing change lf powers. The balance shifted, and unfortunately, we were discovered… it was the saddest moment for us. Many talented members were lost, and following the last disaster, we were isolated completely from the outside world.”

There was silence following her story. My unshed tears had finally fallen. I looked at Rosalin.

“The…families that were killed…, my…my parents…”

“Yes, they were among the best combatants we had…, it was an unfortunate time for all of us.”

My suspicion was confirmed. So this was how my parents were killed. “How could you allow them to be sent on a mission? You could have sent other people ,or have waited for a while…” I screamed at her.

“Nobody knew, Cara . Your parents were one of our loyal and strongest warriors we had ever had. We didn't know that at that time, she was pregnant.” she paused, “nobody knew. Even after the news of their death, I secretly sent spies to bring back their remains. To honor them and give them their last farewell. That was the best we could do”.

My ears perked up, “my parents had a grave, I had a little consolation on the fact that they were not left to rot and be eaten by vultures.”

“Show me the grave.”

I followed Lydia to the cemetery, going straight to two graves that were placed together. “In loving memory of our strong heroes” was cremated on both of their Graves.

Tears welled up in my eyes. My parents had been brave when they were alive. And they loved each other so much that despite them being warriors, it didn't stop their love from blossoming. And together, they died protecting the one thing that they cherished. ‘Me.’

Memories of my dream where I see my mum resurfaced in my mind. Her loving smile and gentle aura. I choked on my tears. They had died bravely like the warriors they were.

“I promise to avenge your death, sweet mum, and loving dad. Thank you for protecting me with your blood, I promise to continue from where you stopped.” I made a promise whilst kneeling at their grave.

sometimes later, after I had cried out my sadness and frustration while Emelda had stood silently all this time. I wiped my eyes, standing up with a resolute look. I was done crying and being pushed around.

“Tell me everything,”

“Cara, calm down, don't let anger…”

“I am not angry, I am calm.” I cutted her short. “I need to learn how to use my powers, everything about the cupbearers I need to train in the ways of nature.”

I said, looking at her for an answer. I saw for a brief moment in her eyes, a twinkle , before it was gone,

“Gladly, my young pureblood” she said with glistening eyes.
