Chapter 51 51

Chapter 51 51

CAMILLA’S POV

For one thing, everyone knew I wasnt the type to mop around while I had things that needed to be handled. I sprang into action almost immediately, trying to find a loophole I could easily slip into with no problem. I found one, after almost a day of just walking around and trying to get servants to talk without of course, tarnishing my ever spotless reputation.

One of her attackers or better yet, the mole who facilitated the attack and made it happen, has been imprisoned down in the dungeon. The one thing I learned from my wild nomadic life would be, to get to your enemy, hold onto their friends and turn them against them, if you can't, get the closest to that. In this case, an enemy that was once a friend.

But going down the dungeon alone is news to be reported back to Lucius. Not to speak of gaining entry and seeing a prisoner. He would be by my door quicker than I could blink. His fucking system is flawless like that. I know for sure that trying to sneak in isn’t even an option, there is no way I, or anyone for that matter, could sneak into an underground cellar, with one door in and out, and tons of guards at the door. It was never left empty. Not even when the guards changed shift.

For hours on end, I tried to find a way to get things done without triggering anyone. Almost impossible but trust me to squeeze between the little possibility space remaining. I found away, slim opportunity and all but I was going to go for it. Besides, what is the worst that could happen? Lucius isn’t going to suspect and shove me into the dungeon or anything. I was rather more worried about my reputation. I couldn't imagine any form of stain on it.

For my plan to work, I had to wait for the next day as it was already nighttime by the time I retired to my room. I can’t believe I spent the whole of my day wasted on that bitch. By the time I was done with her, she was going to regret ever turning her head to stare at Lucius in the first place. This is not her place to stay, to be a leader, or to bear children, I simply refuse to allow it.

When morning came the next day, I was up with the sun, ready to put my plan into action. It was easy to blend into the shadows when I am in my wolf form. And I choose to do it in the daytime because there will be no risk of anyone lighting a burning stick toward the areas where darkness resides. In the daytime, shadows are shadows, no one bothers to check them.

I passed by group and groups of guards, leading down to the dungeon. You had to swear there was some sort of political crisis going on. But this was simply Lucius' way of making sure nothing slips from his control. Nothing but me. I know my way around here, I have been on his side for decades to know where weaknesses are, no matter how small.

I approached the main dungeon entrance in my wolf form, limping from one side of the high roofs to another, trying to make sure I melded well with the darkness and remained unseen. There were guards laid out in front of it as usual, from side to side, almost twenty of them, guarding the door, the only way into the dungeon. I studied them carefully, waiting for the perfect opportunity to slip past their reserve.

It came, almost an hour later. When the guards were shifting, others took take position and the ones in position went to take a break. Lucius makes sure no one leaves their position until their comrade is right in front of them, ready to ease their work, exactly at the same time the sun rays reach their high point in the morning sky. And it happened to be the same time when the prisoners were served food.

When the guards began to barge in, lined up and each one coming to take position in front of their comrade, I waited, ready. Soon, the maids began to walk in with bowls of dry water and bread, the only food allowed to be fed to the prisoners.

My chance.

Quickly, I slipped back into my human bones, shrugged out of my cloak, and stumbled between the maids' line indicated. It was a bold move, even I knew that. One that could get me imprisoned or even brought to justice by hanging if I were caught. Lucius gives no two shits. But I was brave enough to pull it off anyway and that thought was in the past now, because I blended well into the maids' squad and we matched silently through the large entrance, some guards following behind us.

When we were fully inside, I was faced with another challenge. I have no idea why the heck to looking, or who I was even looking for. I just knew she was a female and that was about it. Not a single ounce of recognition.

As I followed the lead of the rest of my squad, trying my best to study what they were doing and do the same so I won't act out of line, my eyes were also on the watch, moving from one cell to another having a glimpse of who was inside.

Most of the cells housed men, a few housed women who were mostly old and tattered. I was about to give up and turn around, just to try another day when my eyes landed on this prisoner. A young lady, too fresh to have been here for long.

Perfect, now I have my victim. I waited for the guard to open up her room and I quickly ducked in front of the maid about to enter with the food, and I slipped inside with ease.

One part of the plan is completed.
