Chapter 8 ~My fake contract~
Xander's POV
I honestly couldn't believe the nerve of these people to ambush me like that.
I could have punished them for that. I was the Alpha, after all.
The Alpha…
I sighed at the thought; they were right after all. I desperately needed a Luna.
Not solely because of the whole ‘continue Silvereign legacy’ thing, the main reason I needed a Luna was because of the curse.
Without a Luna, I risk losing my wolf, which wasn't even an option to me. There was no way I'd lose Theon.
I needed to act fast.
I moved towards my car parked in the garage and drove out of the packhouse to town.
I stopped at the café I often frequented. It was my favorite because it was always neat and quiet, affording you space to think.
I looked at the clock hung on the wall. The time was 6pm already.
‘Shit! How did I forget?’ Tonight was going to be a full moon.
Worse still, the elders gave me till the next full moon to find my mate.
How was that even possible?
“Welcome, Mr. Xander.” The barrister greeted, a cheerful smile on his face.
Yeah… I always tipped generously.
“Thank you. I'll have an espresso.”
In a few minutes, I was seated with an espresso and croissant on the window seat of the café.
‘Let's get down to business.’
I brought out my laptop and began to type. I could hardly believe what I was doing, drafting a contract for a Luna.
What can I say? Desperate times called for desperate measures.
The only thing that I was unsure of was whether Nova would sign. I hoped she would agree.
It wasn't that I didn't love her enough to mark her as a mate without a contract, it's just that…
My hands moved rapidly on the keyboard pad.
LUNA CONTRACT
Terms
I, Nova Ortiz of Nightfang pack, will:
1\. Take up the responsibilities of Luna until Alpha finds his mate.
2\. Counsel the Alpha and protect the pack as a mother would.
I laughed at the thought of Nova being a motherly figure.
3\. Accompany the Alpha to ceremonies and events representing the pack.
4\. Birth an heir, if needed.
5\. Promise Exclusivity to the Alpha.
6\. Non-disclosure and breach of confidentiality will attract the penalty of death.
I know it seemed extreme for the penalty to be death, but that's just how it was done.
I took a deep sigh as I closed the laptop.
Nova was someone that was unpredictable, so I wasn't sure if she'll agree to the terms. The only thing I could do was to offer a mouthwatering reward.
I reopened the laptop and typed.
Reward
I, Alpha Xander, until the end date promise to:
1\. Protect my Luna and offer support to her pack in any inter-pack wars.
2\. Elevate her status as Luna, guaranteeing respect from all members of my pack.
3\. My Luna will have access to my vast wealth and all the luxury Silvereign pack offers.
This was it. I put in the due date for the end of the contract.
There was only one thing left to do.
I mindlinked with Calvin and the council of elders.
I've chosen a mate to be Luna of Silvereign pack.
Calvin's voice came to my mind first.
Well, that was fast. Are you sure about that? The person you chose?
I could hear the ‘Congratulations’. The voices of the council members flooded my mind.
That should get them off my back for a while.
I blocked the link, leaving just Calvin and I.
It's Nova. I'm giving her a non-disclosure contract.
Let me know how it goes
I closed the link.
I collected my laptop, left a tip at the table, and rose to leave.
I sighed, realising that I hadn't even touched the coffee and pastries.
“Bye Mr. Xander.” The barrister waved as I walked out.
I drove my car to Nova's flat. She lived alone, close to the school because her father's packhouse was in another district.
Her flat was really posh and smelt of flowers because she had a thing for gardening.
She usually kept her keys in a pot plant, so I opened the door when I noticed it was locked.
Maybe she wasn't around. I'd just wait for her till she got back.
As I sat on the sofa, the first thing my ears picked was Nova's wild, throaty moans.
I stood up in shock and moved to her bedroom door.
Just as I suspected.
The moans were clear from here. The bed was creaking noisily. There was a low, deep groan coming from a male as well.
I flung the door open and my eyes met first with the captain of Northvale’s basketball team sprawled on Nova's bed, intertwined with her as they both had sex.
I fucking hated him; he’d just given me the perfect reason to beat the shit out of him.
In a blind rage, I rushed to the bed and dragged him down, landing quick blows all over his face and body.
He was begging. Nova was shrieking, crying, and begging.
I didn't stop; I couldn't control myself. The blows were coming. I was seeing red - though maybe that was just the blood pouring from his facial orifices.
“Xander! Stop, you'll kill him!” Nova's voice rang in a frightened scream.
Only then did I release the guy. He scampered and ran out of the room in his blood stained underwear.
I faced Nova. She looked scared.
“What! The Fuck!” I seethed angrily. “And to think I almost chose you as my mate?”
Her lips parted in surprise.
What made her think she could do this to me?
“You are absolutely despicable.” I spat out and turned to leave.
“And you're God's gift to earth?” Her voice croaked through the tears. I whipped around to face her. “Do you know how long! I waited! For you to mark me and claim me as yours, but no... because Xander fucking Theon regards no one.”
Fucking narcissistic. Trust the manipulating Nova to always make it someone else's fault.
“And now you wake up from your slumber and want to ‘mark me'. "
I would hurt her as much as she hurt me. “Yes, I wanted to make you my mate, but with a contract after which I'd dump you.”
Her tears stopped falling as she locked eyes with me. “Well, I'm now in love with someone else. And Authur is not like you. Selfish.”
I turned back and stormed out of Nova's apartment because I didn't know what I'd do to her next.
I kept walking with no destination in my mind.
It was dark and the full moon lay bright in the sky and had I somehow walked deep into the woods.
But…
I could smell rogues. Their wild scent was unmistakable.
I heard a soft voice crying and begging out from a distance. “Please. Please don't hurt me.”
I froze on the spot when I realised it was Fiona, surrounded by a pack of wolves.
Suddenly, my bones cracked, and I morphed into my werewolf form for the first time in months.
Theon acted fast, attacking the rogues in a rage-like fury, until they scampered away.
And that was when I realised that Nova's cheating on me made me angry, but not sad.
