Chapter 7 ~The council's demand~
Xander Theon's POV
My family is crazy and so is my girlfriend, Nova. Don't ask me why, just keep that in mind.
My Beta, Calvin mindlinks me and I open up to him.
Hey, Calvin. What's happening?
This better be good because after a long day of hockey training and school activities, I needed time to breathe. And this moment, in my car, listening to music, ‘undisturbed’, was what I needed.
Alpha, remember the pack meeting today?
Oh, shit. I completely forgot about that.
Are they all there?
Yes, and it's not looking good.
It never looks good, trust me.
What's it this time? I ask impatiently.
Well, I think you should just come here for yourself. Everything is going batshit crazy. I'll try to hold the fort till you come.
The mind link cut off.
Bless Calvin, because what the fuck would I have done with these people?
I increase the accelerator in an attempt to arrive on time.
The truth was that in my pack, the Silvereign pack, hierarchy was everything. Toxic hierarchy.
My father's two younger brothers hated him for choosing me as the new Alpha at 18, when he retired.
My younger brother, Loki, despised me for choosing Calvin, my cousin and best friend as my beta, instead of him.
My uncles were planning to ‘dethrone’ me as Alpha. All thanks to Calvin, who revealed this to me. Aside from hockey, I can be oblivious to most things.
The ladies in the pack, phew! There were beefs, one family snubbing the other.
In summary, the Silvereign pack went from one problem to the other, and here I was, Alpha in the middle of all this shit.
I pulled up to the gate that led to the pack house. The guard who was an Omega, Bernard, looked out to see who it was.
“Alpha Xander, welcome.”
I nodded in acknowledgement, and he opened the gates to the private road.
Well, you see, Silvereign pack house was not like most. Essentially, it's a big private island surrounded by woods.
There were different luxury mansions. Every family had theirs, but we shared some common facilities.
I pulled into the main house, my house. From the car, I was already hearing the hocus pocus going on.
As I moved in, I stood by the locked doors to pick out some information.
The first voice I heard clearly was my brother's. Loki.
“Why hasn't Xander, the supposed Alpha of the pack, followed us hunting for six full moons? It doesn't look fishy to y'alls ass kissing asses.”
I sucked in a deep breath. How did Loki know?
My wolf was getting weaker by the day, which made me unable to shift for sometime now. It bugged me, but I knew how to rectify it, finding a mate. And I knew the cause too. I was cursed… but that's a story for another day.
I opened the doors in one swing. All council members, elders and my beta and gamma were present.
“Welcome Alpha.” They all chorused.
I respond promptly and sit down at the head of the table.
“So, where were you all?”
My uncle, Julius, stood up first. “I'll go straight to the point, Alpha Xander, we need a Luna before the next full moon.”
Of course…
My mind instinctively went to Fiona, the pretty girl wolf at school. I found her so attractive. She had these large doe eyes that looked so innocent and cute, her pink lips were always parted like she was confused. But what I loved most about her was her luscious red hair. I'm sure her wolf would be red as well.
I was so excited when she bumped into me, spilling coffee, and so was my wolf. For a long time, I'd never seen Theon so alive. Yes, I stole my middle name from my wolf.
I wonder if…
“... The other clans are getting stronger. The Alphas are finding Lunas, giving birth to pups…”
I roll my eyes and groan internally. Here we go again.
“And because of that, they think we are weak! They think they can take down Silvereign pack, because our Alpha has refused to do what he should.” My uncle Julius continued. “They want to take you down.”
Oh, and you don't want to? Please… please!
The door swung open immediately, revealing the former Alpha and my father, Edgar Grayson.
He was always one to come late to these meetings.
I stood up to greet my father. But took a pause when I noticed the stern look on his face. Suffice to say, Mr. Edgar was not pleased.
Calvin and I mindlinked.
Xander, you're fucked his amused voice filled my head.
The dead thing.
Oh, shut up Calvin
My dad sat down in his seat. “Xander, why haven't you found a mate yet?”
Before I could respond, he jumped out of his seat, his temper flaring. “You need to make something happen. The Silvereign pack, in all her glory, has become a laughingstock among other packs. What about your girlfriend, Nova? What of Dakota?”
His brothers, the other elders of the pack, nodded in affirmation.
I didn't even want to remember Dakota
“Mark her. All I'm saying is find your mate, or I will help you do that.”
“Sure thing, dad.” I muttered dryly.
He gave a last cold glance and stormed out the door.
I felt Calvin's eye on me. Damn
Elder Cyrus, my older uncle, stood up next. “I know a list of potential Lunas. Beautiful ones! Remember Hadassah, daughter of Alpha Levi, she only just moved in from Canada. And their alliance would be very helpful in making our legacy grow even stronger.”
“I myself have a list of other prospective L…” Someone else was talking.
Calvin mindlinked me.Damn! All these shawtys, just for you?
I laughed inwardly despite myself. Nevertheless, I was seething with anger at the ambush.
Can't dear uncle Cyrus see the spit building by the sides of his mouth?
Calvin unknowingly chuckled out loud. The whole pack turned to glare at him.
“Sorry.” He muttered.
Focus Alpha
“If you can't do what's right,” Uncle Julius says. “Then you can resign. Let another lead the pack.”
I glare at him. The only reason I was ignoring the old man's folly was that he was Calvin's father.
“I've heard you all. I'll definitely do something about the whole Luna issue.” I stood up to leave.
I was over and done with this.
Uncle Cyrus's voice came out next. “And, oh Alpha, the shaman is..”
“Fuck you!” I spat out.
“..dead.”
