Runaway Luna

Lilith's POV

Looking into his eyes, I almost wanted to believe him. That the man standing in front of me, was not influenced by his own actions, but those of his wolf.

Sounds absurd, right?

I know, I was having a hard time believing that. Actually, I was having a hard time believing anything that was coming out of his mouth.

I had heard enough rumors to know the kind of person I was talking to.

One of the traits that stood out was that he was a man who knew how to capitalize on opportunities unlike no other. He was also said to be a master manipulator.

So, the more I thought about it, the more it bothered me.

'He is telling the truth. He is fighting his wolf and the consequences of doing that is that his wolf will sometimes take over and go on a rampage as it wishes,' Dione advised.

Lord knows I was not going to listen to whatever my wolf was saying and believe every single word. From the start, she had been asking me to follow Kieran into unknown territory.

Questioning her thoughts of if I was going to be sheep that took itself to a slaughterhouse, she insisted that Kieran couldn't do that.

And Kieran didn't have a good track record for me to trust and go with.

"Well, you've taken me twice. How about you turn and go on your way, and I'll go back from where I came from," I suggested, still not considering following him.

I could see the disapproval in his eyes. The way his brows furrowed and the pulsating vein at the temple of his head, were all visible signs that he was not having it.

He finally let out a heavy sigh, as if he had enough with the stalemate.

"I can't go and just leave you. I'll not be at peace, and my wolf will stop at nothing to get you back. Besides, do you really want to go back there? You're being married off, and I can tell that you're not happy with it."

His words hit harder than I expected them to. For the first time since he appeared, he sounded like an actual person and not a monster.

"So my only other option is to come with you? I don't like both choices," I stated.

"You don't have much of a choice. I can hear the warriors from your pack a few miles behind. I'm sure that that's the first search party that has been sent to find you. We have to go!" He snapped, grabbing me by the hand and dragging me further into the forest.

Before I could even protest, we had already covered a great distance. We were now further from the pack, and closer to the pack boundary.

When I finally managed to shake my hand from his tight grip, I shouted at him, "Let me go! I said I'll come with you. I didn't allow you to forcefully make me follow you!"

He grimaced, the scorn showing on his face. He wasn't happy at all at my snapbacks at him. And neither was I impressed by his courteous attitude.

As far as I knew, he wasn't much of a gentleman. With a reputation of being a mass murderer, psychopathic and destructive,I wouldn't say that he was my taste of a bad boy.

He could as well wait for me to step out of the pack border and kill me. It wasn't just an irrational fear, it was justified.

His face showed pain and anger, all at the same time. And as much as I would want to say that I wasn't the cause, I would be wrong.

Dione was practically doing jumping jacks at the back of my mind, singing how he was my mate. Her, I could tolerate. The question however, was what if his wolf was doing the same?

He just admitted that everytime he was away from me, his wolf always found a way to take over and get me.

"How do I know that you won't kill me when I follow you?" I asked, starting to hear the pack soldiers in the distance.

My heart was now racing, knowing that we had a very short time between the time I make my decision, and the time that the soldiers get to where we were.

With a stern look on his face, he answered, "You know I can't do that!"

For some reason, I believed every word that he said. I know right, great survival instincts from me.

"Let's go!" He snarled, taking a step back and under the moonlight, I saw his skin slowly turning to fur.

In a flash, he had already shifted, looking at me for a second, then towards the direction that we had come from.

His ears were perked up, listening keenly.

I was watching this beats of a wolf looking over my shoulder and tense up. That's when I realized, the fear that I felt for him, was slowly slipping away.

' Let's do this,' Dione whispered, triggering my shift.

I didn't stop her. I let her take over and within a few seconds, I was also in my wolf form.

I was atleast a third the size of Kieran, and size didn't seem much of a factor now.

Looking at me, he turned and started sprinting further away from the pack. And for a moment, last minute jitters had me scared.

Following through meant I would be in the presence of a man better described as a monster. And was it really worth it trusting him?

Was it really worth it risking it all just because I was afraid of what was awaiting me in the pack?

'You know what you have to do. Going back means, either becoming Ryder's Luna, or being thrown back into the dungeons ' Dione reminded me.

'And following Kieran could be me walking to my own death,' I countered.

'But won't it be worth it? Spending your last moments with your mate,' she questioned, then kept quiet. Allowing for me to think through that.

Well. Fuck it!

After questioning my ability to make rational decisions, I picked the worst possible one.

Following Kieran.

The Exiled Alpha.

For some reason, I could feel a pull towards him that I couldn't understand. I had never felt that way about anyone, and wanted to know if there was more to that feeling.

Hesitantly, I started trotting, following Kieran's scent. He hadn't covered a great distance.

And by the time I reached him, I could tell that he wasn't even running at full speed. He was basically matching my speed, while on the other hand, I was running at full speed.

The sounds from the pack soldiers started to subside slowly, and after a while, we could barely hear them.

We were enforcing a distance between us and them, to be on the safe side.

With some landmarks such as an ancient tree came to view, I could tell that we were nearly out of pack jurisdiction. And the weight of realization was slowly setting in.

As much as I tried not to think about it, the more I actually thought about it. I was looking at Kieran who was ahead of me this entire time, and I could tell that he was tensed up.

And as if he sensed my worries, he started slowing down. We finally stopped right at the border of the pack.

He circled around me, looking into the forests, perhaps searching if anyone was onto us.

What was he doing?

Why stop now?

Kieran then stopped, his shoulders dropped as he stopped tensing up. He then walked up to me, looking into my eyes, I knew there was a reason he had stopped.

In those few seconds that our eyes were locked, I swore that I saw warmth in them. I wasn't staring into the eyes of the Exiled Alpha, rather, I was looking at Kieran Blackwood.

He glanced over to the direction that we had come from, and then to the direction we were headed to. Then he went back to locking eyes with me.

It took me a few seconds to join the dots. And when I did, I was shocked at what he was doing.

'It is like he's giving you one last chance to decide.' Dione mumbled, reading my thoughts.

With Dione also being in control, and having that decision to make under those circumstances, it wasn't going to take me long to decide.

I looked at Kieran, then back at home. The only thing that came out of my throat was deep and hatred-filled snarl.

Without wasting any more time, I sprinted away from the pack. Shocking even Kieran who stood still for a while before coming after me.

I had so many chances of turning back and heading home. But what is home if it means living with someone I could stand being around.

And not just living with him, being his wife.

I was now a runaway Luna, in the presence of the Exiled Alpha.
