Chapter 10: Kieran Talks
Lilith's POV
Kieran didn't speak. He just stood there in silence.
Both of us were stranded in a sea of confusion. I, wondering why he had picked me from the entire pack. Also, why my wolf had decided to call the brute standing in front of me, our mate.
I could tell from the look he was giving me, he was also questioning a lot of things. At the top of the list, I expected him to question his actions.
He huffed, looking towards the direction we were headed and stretched out his hand, urging me to continue walking.
"I'm not moving. A few miles down that road and I'll be outside the pack territory. I've followed you this far, but I'll be damned if I'm walking away from the safety of my pack with you," I hissed, showing him that I wasn't a pushover.
His eyes darkened, unlike the color I had seen before. This look gave him almost a demonic appearance.
I felt a chill run down my spine. But despite that, I wasn't as scared as I expected to be.
He walked closer to me, leaning in close, allowing his warm breath flatter on my skin. He was literally fanning my messy hair with his warm breath.
"I think you're better off without them. That's considering both occasions that I just rescued you from them," he growled, looking intently into my eyes.
The nerve on this man, beast or whatever he was!
He came to my rescue expecting me to fall down to his feet and worship him? He was in for a surprise.
I couldn't hold in my genuine reaction, no matter how much I tried to.
After a few seconds of torment, trying not to explode, I had to let it all out.
With sarcasm lacing my every word, I looked right into his eyes and asked, "Wait, so you think that because you came to my rescue, I'm supposed to listen and do whatever you want me to do?"
I could see how my question had him in shock. His eyebrows raised and taking a step back, I was certain that he didn't expect me to fire back like I did.
"I'm not your property! And neither did I ask you to come and take me, twice for the matter. You really thought I would do as you please? Rescuing me doesn't mean I'm indebted to you!" I snapped, looking at him directly in his eyes.
For a second, I almost forgot who I was talking to. It was when I finished the last statement, that I realized I was in the presence of a ruthless monster.
And I wasn't the only one who was coming to this realization. After a few seconds of silence, I could see the surprise on his face, slowly turn to rage.
"Do you know who I am?" He breathed, his tone low and steady.
I could tell that he was trying his best not to shout. From his heaving chest as a result of controlled breathing, to his clenched fists by his side, I knew I had played with fire.
But despite this, I had a feeling that I needed to stand my ground. I had to think about my safety. And if he wanted me to follow him outside pack territory, and I do that, I could be signing my own death certificate.
Who knows what he could do to me as soon as we step outside the pack territory. Out there, I would be a wolf without a pack. And that's the first step to self sabotage.
I was barely surviving in my pack, there was no way I would be able to survive outside the pack.
"Everyone knows who you are. The Exiled Alpha. And I know enough not to follow you into the darkness like a headless chicken. If you want to kill me, do it now," I answered him, daring him to make his move.
'Lilith, he's our mate. There's no way he wants to kill us,' Dione urged me, assuring me that I was safe in the hands of Kieran.
As much as our wolves would always do anything to protect us, I started to question why Dione was doing the opposite.
Everything that she was saying, was going to have me ending up dead at the foot of a tree. She was suggesting that I follow a madman into ungoverned land where rules didn't exist.
'Can you stop it with that bullshit!' I cursed at her, pushing her further back into my head.
"Good, so you do know my name. And I'm sure with that, you know of all that I've done. This means, you know what I'm capable of doing of you don't do as I say!" He roared, his voice making a few birds scatter above us.
I noticed that with every passing second, he kept looking around, as if he expected someone to walk into us. From what I could tell, anyone that was going to find us in that moment, would be as good as dead.
Kieran had his fists clenched, and every few seconds, I could see a quick flash of red in his eyes. He wasn't in the right state of mind. And that's who Dione wanted me to follow?
I was attracted to bad boys, but not one who was definitely going to maul me when I say no to following him into the unknown.
"I'm not moving from this spot until you tell me why you took me!"
Kieran looked confused....rather, troubled.
He tried opening his mouth several times but each time, not a single word came out.
When he finally spoke, it was not what I expected.
"I don't know why I took you!" He hissed, taking a step back like he heard someone.
"Shut up!" He snapped, looking at the ground.
What had me concerned, was that he wasn't addressing me when he said 'Shut up!'. No, he was looking to the ground.
He was definitely telling that to someone else. The only problem was, we were the only two people in that vicinity.
With his left hand, he held his head from the side and repeated the same thing, this time even louder.
As I watched him, I couldn't help but wonder whether this was the same Exiled Alpha that was talked about.
To me, he was now looking like a mad man talking to his demons. And for some reason, I felt like his demons were real, and there with me.
In summary, he was talking to himself and acting crazy. So, when he went silent and looked at me, I took a step back in fear for my own life.
Behind his cold and piercing stare, somewhere inside him, I could swear that there was some warmth in them. If I was right, that side was burried so deep that I didn't know if I was just imagining it, to relieve my suspicions.
"Either you follow me, or you let your alpha come and drag you back to your pack. Choose one," he said with finality.
Weighing the two options, none had a lighter consequence.
Going back to Alpha Zander and his pack, meant that I would be subjected to an interrogation like no other, and finally forced to be married to Ryder.
This would mean that I become the pack's Luna. A prestigious title, but not worth the sacrifice.
On the other hand, following Kieran wasn't a better option either. It would mean that I strep out of the pack's jurisdiction, and into a dangerous and unruly world, with an unpredictable, compulsive and dangerous monster.
I had the feeling that if he wanted me dead, he needed me outside the pack so that it doesn't become an all out war on him in retaliation
But why would he want me dead?
"I said it before, I'm not following you until you tell me why you took me," I reiterated, firm on my stance.
I saw the anger seep back into his face and build up inside me. I didn't care, I wanted a reasonable answer.
"I don't know! You hear me? I don't know! I shifted into my wolf, and both times he forced me to come and take you! He refuses to tell me why he needs you so much that he risked grabbing you from your pack!" He roared, his voice breaking as he spoke.
For a moment, I swore that I could feel pain and confusion in his voice. But as I was about to start sympathizing with him, I remembered who was in my presence.
All the things I had heard about him, I wouldn't be surprised that it was an act.
But, I needed to know who he was talking about. So, I asked, "Who are you talking about?"
He stopped breathing, paused and looked at me for a second in pure silence. And almost as if he thought that someone was listening, he answered in a whisper,
"My Wolf."
