Chapter 45 The Invite
Mia quickly looked away, feeling the sensation that cringed her.
She made a quick attempt to escape, but the Alpha grabbed her by the waist, gently pushed her to the wall, and pinned her.
“Let me go.” She grunted, struggling to break free.
Russell refused to budge, inching closer until their chests brushed against each other, his flaming eyes staring into her golden orbs.
“You cannot get rid of me that easily, Mia. We are bound to each other.” He chuckled, his fingers grabbing as much of her raven strands as they could.
His other hand moved from her belly, caressing toward her face.
Mia took a deep breath, battling to catch her breath.
She groaned again, but that seemed very futile since the Alpha looked very determined to hold her still.
She could feel Russell’s breath, their eyes still locked into each other.
“What do you think about a vacation?” Russell broke the silence, but that didn’t seem like it was enough to ease the sensation that tingled inside Mia’s nerves.
She cleared her throat, her eyes wide with bemusement.
“A vacation?”
“Yes.” Russell nodded, and then he continued with a calm tone.
“I figured that after the whole stress of having to work for so long, I deserve to get some rest. Eat good food, drink the best wine, and get away from the whole responsibility of being the Lycan King and protector of the Eastern Territory.” He paused for a while, but Mia’s countenance was still the same, contorted with a little confusion.
“Pick a date, Mia. We are going together.” The Alpha didn’t sound like he was asking, but his command was sweet to Mia’s ears, dampening all her efforts to pick offense from his imperative utterance.
Mia sighed heavily, her eyes looking briefly away from the Alpha.
When she eventually returned her gaze to Russell, she took a deep breath, and for some reason, she was able to slip away from the Alpha’s grip, marching out of the chamber.
Russell went after her at once, walking in the same space.
“You still haven’t said anything, Mia.” He persisted, holding onto his evergreen smile.
Mia took a deep breath, and slowing her pace, she turned to the Alpha, her expression plain and unreadable.
“Can I at least think about it?”
“Sure! Take your time.” Russell nodded without getting rid of his smile, but it only lasted for a few seconds before he expressed the little disappointment that was etched on his face.
“Don’t just take too long, Mia.” He whispered, and Mia forced a smile, chuckling afterward.
Just then, their attention was drawn toward the staircase as they heard the sound of footsteps approaching.
A guard walked up to them and bowed, first to the Alpha, and then to Mia who turned to Russell, expressing her surprise.
“I would have to start getting used to this.” She thought to herself, her brows still furrowed above her wide eyes.
“What is it?” Russell asked as soon as the guard lifted his head, their eyes locking into each other as he waited for a response.
“Someone brought this for the Luna.” The guard showed the white envelope to the Alpha, holding it still until he grabbed it.
Russell looked at the envelope, his attention drawn to the familiar seal in front of it.
“You may leave.” He dismissed the guard who bowed and walked away, descending the stairs in a hurry.
Mia was speechless, but the curiosity inside her mind was cemented all over her face, her eyes zooming into the envelope.
“What is that?” She asked, shifting her gaze to the Alpha’s face.
Russell handed the envelope to her, showing just a little interest compared to the enormous curiosity that was buried deep inside Mia.
“You should find out, Mia. I think this is from one of the tribes in Black Claw. See what they want.”
Mia sighed, fighting the reluctance that crept into her body.
Slowly, she broke the seal of the envelope, pulling out the letter from the tail.
She glanced through the words written with blank ink, her eyes trailing every alphabet inscribed neatly and with a lovely craft.
She scoffed as soon as her eyes met the last word.
“I have been invited to a wedding.”
“Oh…” Russell chuckled softly, but amidst all the reactions he made, surprise was missing.
“This seems to be something that happens with every Luna of this Pack.” He said, answering Mia’s question before she could ask.
“I guess the pack werewolves are already loving you, and they want to have you around.”
Mia slowly returned her eyes to the envelope, looking away from the Alpha.
“I don’t even know who this is, Russell. How am I supposed to attend a wedding without knowing who the couple are?” Mia’s voice was not just low, it was laced with the confusion that was etched on her face.
Russell sighed heavily, preparing the most suitable response he could think of.
“This is how you know the werewolves in this pack, Mia.” He pointed to the letter without looking at it.
“You will have to show them kindness, Mia. The werewolves in this pack are unlike other werewolves. They have always been used to having their Luan close to them, even more than the Alpha. I think the earlier you begin to get close to them, the earlier they love you.”
Mia silently contemplated the words the Alpha said.
She looked at the letter, and then the envelope, engulfed by indecision.
“You can decide not to go, Mia. There will be no penalty for it.” Russell broke the silence that was beginning to linger, prompting Mia to look him in the face.
Just when she was ready to speak, she was interrupted by another set of footsteps, marching toward them.
It was almost silent, if not that the heels were sharp, and their impacts with the marble floor were making a screeching sound.
Russell grunted as soon as he saw who it was, his expression dropping drastically, defeated by displeasure.
“What are you doing here, Nelly?” He asked, his voice low but firm.
