Chapter 44 Ember
Mia felt a raw flame burning inside her, her entire body dripping with sweat.
She found herself in the dark, standing on nothing visible.
“Mia.” She heard a silent voice echoing all over, and the only thing she could do was look around, tilting her head from one corner to the next.
She tried taking a step forward, but it seemed like her body no longer belonged to her.
She could see it, but she couldn’t feel it, not even when she tried to move her legs.
“Where am I?” The question rang inside her mind, her eyes widening with bemusement.
“Mia! Can you hear me?!” The voice returned, resounding deep inside her ears.
“Who are you?” Her voice has become very slippery, her eyes still searching for the owner of the voice.
“I am you, Mia.” The voice finally responded, and that was when Mia realized that it sounded like hers.
Her eyes were still moving, and because the voice was echoing all over the dark, it was hard to tell where it had come from.
“Am I dreaming?” Mia asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Maybe,” The voice resounded, and because her response was unsatisfactory, Mia sighed, bemusement etched all over her face.
“I can’t feel my body. Are you responsible for this?”
“Maybe…” The voice became louder, and the echo subsided.
Mia felt a presence getting closer to her, and amidst the darkness that surrounded her, a tiny light appeared, glowing as it expanded right before her.
She grunted, covering her face with both hands.
Soon, the light vanished, and in place of it was a figure, standing tall and curvy.
Mia blinked as many times as possible, attempting to get a clearer vision.
But she was not prepared for what revealed itself before her, causing her to gasp.
Mia widened her gaze, eyes on the replica of herself standing before her.
“Who are you?” She asked, believing that she might have a twin.
Her replica smiled, inching closer with slow steps.
She had the same dress on, the same hair, and even the same walking step.
The only difference was that the pearl necklace was missing, and that her eyes glowed with a blinding whiteness.
Mia struggled to find her words, but when she was finally ready to speak, she was lost for words, unable to figure out what exactly she was to say.
“I know you are confused, Mia.” The replica kept her smile, and slowly, her glowing eyes returned to normal.
“I have been waiting for this moment, Mia.”
“What moment?”
“The moment when your true nature shall be revealed to you.” The replica sighed and continued after a while.
“You are not just an ordinary werewolf, Mia. You are a Luna, and also a flare.”
“A flare?” Mia muttered, her eyes wide with confusion.
“Yes, Mia. You are a flare, a true flare possessing powers beyond imagination. I am your spirit guide, and I am here to teach you everything you need to know about your true nature.”
Mia nodded, but the bemusement on her face refused to disappear.
“I have never heard of that before.” She said, her eyes begging for more explanations.
“I am sure you will when the time comes, Mia.” The replica kept her smile, and after a brief silence, she continued.
“Your mother was just like you when I met her. Young, naïve, and with raw power.”
“You knew my mother?” Mia’s interest grew, her eyes seeking a quick response.
The replica nodded, and then she looked up as though someone was standing above her.
Mia did the same, but seeing no one, she returned her gaze to her replica.
“I have to go, Mia.” The replica broke the silence before Mia could do it, taking two steps backward.
“Just remember that I will always be with you. All you need to do is to call out for me. My name is Ember. Just call out to me and I will be with you.”
Slowly, the glowing light returned, and before Mia could say a word, her replica vanished into thin air, leaving the final words, “Always remember who you are!” echoing all over the darkness.
Mia finally opened her eyes, staring at the chandelier above her that almost looked like it was about to crash on her head.
She felt the coziness of the bed, moving her hands up in unison.
The Alpha’s bed was nothing like her bed, warm and inviting her to sleep more.
She finally dragged her body out of the bed, feeling the weakness that invaded her bones.
The sensation was strange, but it was not as intense as the thoughts that lingered in her mind.
“Flare?” She kept on repeating the word, staggering toward the bathroom door.
“Russell?” She called out, grabbing the handle of the door.
“Are you in there?” She asked, and getting no response, she looked toward the outer room, but there was still in sign of the Alpha.
“Well…” She returned her gaze to the door in front of her, taking a deep breath.
“If you are in there, I am coming in.” She pulled slowly, holding onto the handle of the door that silently creaked.
“It’s not like I have not seen what’s between your legs.” She scoffed, taking a step into the bathroom.
“Russell?” Mia’s expression dropped at the absence of her mate in the bathroom.
She looked again, moving from one corner of the large bathroom to the other.
Her eyes went to the shiny bathtub, and certain that it was empty, she grunted, turning around to walk away.
She quickly grabbed her robe, covering her cleavage and thighs as she moved toward the door that opened before she could get a meter closer to it.
The Alpha walked in, almost colliding with her.
“I was thinking that you were never going to wake up.” He inched closer to Mia and kissed her on the forehead.
Mia scoffed. “Mmmh…” She forced a smile, pulling away before the Alpha could grab her hands.
“After what you did to me last night, Russell. I wondered if I was ever going to wake up.”
The Alpha sniggered, his eyes glittering with a slight taunting.
“Swear you didn’t enjoy it.”
