Chapter 64 Her Rightful Place
Chapter 64 Her Rightful Place
Elijah
“Are you sure you should be traveling at night?” Axel asked again as I tied my boots.
“I know my father and brother. They definitely won’t let us leave by morning.” I sighed before standing. It was the middle of the night before Lara was married to Jacob. I wasn’t going to let that happen. So instead of taking my chances and leaving in the morning, I wanted to be within the borders of Silver pack before then.
“Okay, boss. The horses are ready in the next village so we have to head there now.” Ron announced as soon as he entered the house. “Our men should already be within the borders of the Silver Pack now.” I gave him a short nod before turning to Axel.
“I’m leaving this village in your hands, Axel.” He bowed his head in respect.
“Since I’m going with you instead, does that mean you can’t leave the village in my hands?” Ron suddenly asked and I saw Axel smirk.
“Let’s go,” I said.
“Wait what?” Ron asked but when he saw I wasn’t stopping, he begrudgingly followed me mumbling about how he was equally as capable as Axel.
The sun was already out when we finally got to the Silver Pack. As expected, everywhere was busy. Nobody paid attention to us which I was grateful for. My brother was finally going to become the Alpha of the pack. A position he trained all his life for. I tried to shake off the feeling of anger bubbling in me. Jacob had it easy from the onset while I struggled with what was left. I shook my head. My priority was Lara. Jacob can’t have her this time around.
Ron and I headed towards the castle and it was even busier making it easier for us to navigate our way inside. I was hit by a sense of nostalgia as soon as I entered the place I once considered home. A place I lived in for half of my life. Ron looked at me with what seemed to be pity before nudging me forward.
As we got closer to the wing where rooms were located, it wasn’t hard to spot Lara's because it had maids trooping in and out.
“She’s getting ready. We will have to wait till she is alone.” I said to Ron and he nodded his head.
My eyes wandered to the stairs and my feet carried me before I could think twice.
“Elijah..” Ron whispered, but I hushed him.
“Call me when the room is free.”
As soon as I got to the second floor, the familiar floral scent enveloped me, making me homesick all of a sudden. I got to the wing where my mother’s room was located and as usual, it was empty. No guards or maids. The door opened and I saw the head maid walk out. She still looked the same. She raised her head and saw me. All she did was nod her head and walk past me. Not an ounce of surprise.
I slowly entered the room and saw her. She was sitting by the window arranging some flowers in a vase. I shut the door behind me and I heard her sigh.
“My baby.”
That was all it took for me to kneel by her legs and wrap my hands around her waist. She gently rubbed my hair and whispered incoherent words to me. I felt all my resolve break down.
“I should have visited sooner.”
She just shushed me with a smile on her face. She looked a little thinner than the last time I saw her and I wondered how she had been coping.
“I knew you would come.” She said softly.
“How?” I asked, looking up at her. She looked at me with an emotion only she could possess.
“You wouldn’t let her marry Jacob.”
My mother knew. She knew I would do something to stop the wedding. I looked away in embarrassment and she chuckled.
“What if she refuses to come with me?”
“Are you going to give up?”
“Mom..”
She placed her hands on either side of my face. “This can’t be the same boy that looked me in the eyes and told me he was leaving the pack, can it?” I felt a tinge of guilt as the memory returned. She was the only one I told I was leaving and even as she had tears in her eyes, she gave her blessings.
“Elijah?” A knock came on the door and I recognized the voice as Ron. “The guards are out. The ceremony will soon start.”
“On my way.” I took my mother’s hands in mine and gave them a slight squeeze. “I’m sorry.” She shook her head before placing a light kiss on my head.
“Go now.”
I left immediately and headed towards Lara’s room. I watched the two guards head downstairs and quickly slipped into the room. My breath caught my throat as I saw her dressed in white wedding dress. She looked perfect. Just right.
She looked at me in shock and her expression changed to that of relief.
“Elijah..”
She immediately melted into my arms. It took me a few seconds to realize that she was actually in my arms and I wasn’t imagining it. As soon as it clicked, I held her tightly and swore my brother could do his worst.
I headed out of her room and Ron looked so confused when he saw I came out alone.
“Where..?”
“Let’s go.” I ordered.
“But..”
“We are heading to the venue. I’m not giving up till she ties the knot herself.” Ron looked relieved. He probably thought I was going to give up. The choice was entirely Lara’s but I couldn’t promise I won’t wreck havoc if she does decide to marry my brother.
Ron and I got to the place and I saw my brother beaming as he stood with the priest. Lara’s carriage arrived soon after and I waited in hiding and watched her. The slow steps she was taking towards my brother told me all I needed.
“Get ready Ron.” I rode out my horse gently to the entrance and kept my eyes on Lara. She has stopped walking and was just looking at the guests.
“Elijah, I need you now.” I heard her shaky voice say through the mindlink and I smiled.
“Right behind you.”
She turned around and ran towards me. She flung the bouquet and veil in the ground and took my hand. I raised her on the horse and sat her right in front of me. The guards rushed towards us but my men were faster and surrounded us.
“Hey M’lady.” Ron greeted her with his usual boyish grin and I rolled my eyes.
“Let’s go home.” I whispered to Lara and she shivered before nodding her head.
I didn't wait to see the fury in my brother’s eyes or the glare my father was definitely spotting on his face. My only focus was taking Lara home. Her rightful place beside me.
