Chapter 61 Dreams to wake up from
Lara
“Lady Devine?” A soft voice called, bringing me back to reality. I looked around the greenhouse and realized it was already dark out, and I had been lost in thought and hadn't noticed. The young servant looked at me curiously and around the dimly lit greenhouse probably wondering what I was doing there.
“Y..yes?”
“The Royal Seamstress is here to take your measurements.” She said and I nodded before following her out.
It has been hours since I encountered the Luna yet I couldn’t think straight. Was she asking me not to leave Elijah? That was impossible. Maybe I misunderstood her. Yeah, I definitely misunderstood.
I finally entered the castle and saw how crowded it was. The coronation and wedding were going to be a lot. I felt the nerves begin to kick in and my palms were sweaty.
“There you are!” Vera exclaimed as soon as she saw me and my mood went sour immediately. “We need to get started on your wedding dress.” She clapped her hands excitedly. She beamed with so much joy that you would think she was the one getting married.
A plump woman was instantly beside me and without warning, she started raising my hands and wrapping a tape around me while simultaneously calling out numbers to a younger girl.
“What's with the rush?” I asked Vera.
“Oh, dear. While you were out,” she said with a bit of distaste in her tone. “The Priest came and gave a new auspicious date for the coronation. It’s in a week!”
What?!
A week?!!
I thought I would have enough time to come to terms with being back home. But I didn’t even have time to think anymore.
“The wedding too?” I asked and Vera rolled her eyes.
“The priest just mentioned the coronation but Prince Jacob was insistent that the wedding happen on the same day.”
My father’s vision flashed through my mind. A war and the coronation. Maybe the wedding wasn’t meant to happen. I quickly shook my head. What was I thinking?
After I was spun around like a doll because of the measurements, I finally headed towards my room. I was exhausted at that point. A big yawn erupted from my body and I slammed into a wall. A moving wall.
I stumbled backwards but was caught by a strong arm. It was Jacob.
“Sorry.” I apologized, taking quick steps back. He smiled politely as he stepped to the side for a bunch of male servants to pass.
“So.. the wedding is going to be in a week. I don’t know if you’ve heard.” He started, rubbing the back of his head.
“The coronation. Vera told me.” I said hoping he would get the point I was trying to make.
“I decided the wedding would be on the same day.” He said.
“But,”
“If it’s about the bond with my brother, you don’t have to worry. It will be broken before the fixed date.” He assured me but it made me feel even worse. “All you have to do is get ready. I will make sure nothing goes wrong this time. Trust me.” His eyes held so much sincerity. I returned his smile and he looked relieved.
“Okay.”
“I’ll let you rest. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day for everyone.” He steps forward with his hand outstretched but he pulls it back to himself immediately.
“Goodnight,” I said before heading into my room. I closed the door behind me and sighed. Something had changed about Jacob. It was as if he had become overly involved in the marriage. Before Elijah had ruined the first one, I almost thought Jacob was being forced to participate in the whole thing but now, it was as if he was anticipating the wedding more than the coronation.
I slid down to the floor with my head in my hands. I needed to get myself together. The wedding was going to happen as it was supposed to be in the first place. The sooner I realized that, the better. Elijah and the Moonlight Pack were a dream, one I should wake up from.
Jacob
My eyes followed Lara as she entered her room. She looked worried when I told her about the wedding and the new date but I was sure it was the bond she was worried about. Speaking of which, I headed to the meeting room where the strange men known as V were seated waiting for me. It gave me so much joy that they didn’t come for my father. It was only a matter of time before it became official.
“Looks like you have been busy, Alpha.” The title gave my ego the much-needed boost and the men smirked to themselves like they knew the effect it had on me.
“Well, I have a wedding to plan,” I told them while taking a seat. “How soon can we get that bond severed?”
“That would have to be on the wedding day. We break off the old bond while the new one happens immediately.”
“Why?” Lara would not want that. She already looked as worried as she could be when I told her about the new date.
“Bonds ordained by the heavens are only broken by death. So if your brother is not dead then that’s the only other option you have.”
My blood boiled. Bonds ordained by heaven? Spare me that crap. Why would the heavens ordain a bond which was not meant to be?
“I guess whatever other reason you need her for can come after the wedding. I don’t want my bride to be bothered about anything before her big day.” I saw the annoyance flash through their eyes and I was satisfied. They didn’t think I was stupid to let their selfish interest come before my own interest.
“As you wish Alpha.”
“All the best for your wedding.”
The three of them left the room but a slight chill ran down my spine at the wishes for the wedding. The Priest’s warning came back to me.
“The wedding can’t happen that same day. All you can bring forward is the coronation.” He had warned but I didn’t care. The faster I got married to Lara, the better. Whatever the heavens liked, they could do but nothing was going to stop me.
