Chapter 60 Not leaving his side
Chapter 60 Not leaving his side
Lara
I entered my room and pulled my hair loose in frustration. I couldn’t believe I was so close to snapping at the Alpha. All his probing questions pointed in one direction: knowing Elijah’s strength. It was obvious he felt threatened but he didn’t want to show it. I didn't understand why I felt the need to defend Elijah but I chose to act oblivious instead.
I wondered what Papa had been up to. I quickly got up, picked out the hair accessories in my hair, and headed out. I met Vera on the way and she looked at my hair in disappointment.
“We have tea..”
“I’m going out.” I simply told her.
“According to the schedule,”
“Vera, I don’t care about your schedule. I’ll be back.” I didn't wait to see the astonishment on her face before heading out of the castle. As I stepped out, a few guards bowed in respect. I noticed they were following me and sighed.
“I’m just going to see my father,” I told one of the guards but he retained his stance.
“Orders from the Prince.”
I sighed before heading out. The entire town was busy and no one really noticed my presence. A few that did just smiled at me and bowed in respect. The same look of admiration they had on my wedding day before the disaster was back. If only I didn’t know how two-faced they were, I would’ve felt loved. I got to my father’s place in minutes and I saw him gently brushing his horse.
“Papa!” He smiled and gave me a small wave. “How are you?”
I opened my mouth to reply but the words got caught in my throat. “I.. I’m great. It’s good to be back.” He looked at me for a few seconds before shaking his head.
“What have you been up to?” I asked him. I recalled that he came to the Moonlight pack with Jacob yet he vanished and didn't head to the elf village.
“Nothing in particular.” If there was one thing Papa and I had in common, it was our ability to know when the other was lying.
“Any vision?” I asked. The last time I saw him this uneasy was years ago when he foresaw Elijah’s first attack on the pack.
He seemed hesitant at first before nodding. “The vision is unclear. One minute I’m seeing war and the next, the coronation.”
“Are you going to tell the Alpha?” I asked and he shrugged before tying his horse.
“I should.” He said. “What about you? Any visions?” He asked and I shook my head.
For some odd reason, I realized that the only visions I have gotten were all linked to Elijah one way or the other. “All my visions are connected to Elijah. Probably because of the mate bond.”
“I wonder why,” he mused. “How long are they staying?” He nodded to the guards who were all around the compound and I sighed.
“As long as I’m here. Jacob doesn't want to take any chances.” I said, “How do I control my visions, Papa?” He looked taken aback by my question before giving me a small smile.
“Let me handle it. Don’t worry about anything and take care of yourself.” He finally drew me in for a hug and I melted into his arms. “Remember, do not let anybody force you to do what you don’t want to do. If the energy is bad, run.”
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion but nodded either way. I knew it wasn’t Papa but the Seer was speaking at that point. It happens sometimes. One sentence and he’s back to being Papa. He never remembers what he tells me once he is in that state.
The sun was settling when I finally got back to the castle. Instead of entering the building, I made my way to the greenhouse instead. The greenhouse was the one place I had peace in the entire castle. The greenhouse was detached from the castle. When I finally got closer, I saw the head maid standing by the entrance. She was barely seen in the castle and was the sole attendant of the Luna.
She narrowed her eyes at me as I approached the greenhouse. “Come back later.” Her voice was sharp and it made me subconsciously coil back in fear.
“Sorry, I..”
“Who is there, Lucy?” A soft voice asked. The voice sounded like music to my ears and my head instantly bent down in respect.
It was the Luna.
This was the first time in my life I was hearing her voice not to mention seeing her. Rumor had it that after Elijah’s rebellion, she locked herself up in her room and stopped every interaction with everybody so it was surprising to see her here at the greenhouse.
“It’s,” Lucy, the head maid, started while looking at me with distaste, “It’s Jacob’s betrothed.”
“Lara, am I right?” Luna softly said. Her voice was as calm as the night waves and soothing to the ears.
“Yes, your highness.” I quickly replied.
“Let her in.”
Lucy begrudgingly stepped aside and I slowly entered the greenhouse with my head down. Inside the greenhouse was the Luna picking some flowers. She had her back to me and I didn't dare raise my head.
“How is he?” She asked.
I instantly knew who she was asking about. Unlike when the Alpha asked, I felt the urge to tell her everything.
“He’s doing well, your highness. The people there respect him a lot.” I started, “He has good people around him and then Matilda, she cooks really well for everyone. Enemy packs are also afraid of him. Although he has a bit of an attitude at times.” I mumbled the last part before realizing what I said and gasped. “My apologies, your highness. I didn’t mean to..”
A soft giggle interrupted me and I let out a shaky breath of relief. Thank heavens she didn’t find me disrespectful.
“Good to know.” She simply said before leaving. My head was bowed to the ground and the only thing I could see was her bare feet and waist-length midnight blue hair. “You’re not leaving his side, are you?”
My breath caught in my throat as I heard the question. What was she asking of me? She knew I was to be married to Jacob, her first son so why?
“I.. I,”
“Let’s go, Lucy.”
I heard the door shut. What just happened?
