Chapter 101: Beyond what we Know

Chapter 101: Beyond what we Know
Freya’s P.O.V

“Maggie?” I looked at her incredulously. “What are you doing? Why are you here?”

“Wouldn’t you want to know?” Maggie gave me a smile that was just…off. “But not to worry, we have plenty of time to catch up on our chit-chat. First, change out of that gown if you want it to be intact by the end of all this.”

“Maggie! What is even going on?” I snapped at her. “What exactly is ‘all this’? What are you even doing here? And what does Mrs. Kovac have to do with anything?”

Maggie threw back her head and laughed. “Mrs. Kovac-Esmeralda is my aunt and the future Crone of the coven. She has promised my entry back into the coven, once I brought you over. Do you have any idea how long I’ve waited for you?”

“What on earth are you going on about?” I snapped at her once again, holding on to my temper via a thread of patience. “You think talking in riddles is making you look cool? Well jokes on you! You can’t make someone feel inferior when they have no idea what your fucking deal is! It’s just making you look like a crazy bitch!”

I wasn’t the kind of person who started cussing people just like that. But this bitch was an exception. She was literally standing in front of me and telling me that she was the one who helped me get kidnapped!

“You fucking whore!” Maggie screamed and the next thing I know, my back slammed against the opposite wall, making my vision go temporarily blank and pain explode in my head.

I slid down the wall, feeling weak and unable to move as if something heavy was sitting on top of me. Breathing grew difficult and the pain rapidly spread all throughout my body. I was hardly able to keep my eyes open as I saw Maggie standing by the door, a purple glow around her frame as she sneered down at me.

“Maggie!”

The pressure suddenly disappeared as I was able to gasp air into my lungs. I saw Mrs. Kovac run inside the room, shoving Maggie to a side as she entered. She headed straight towards me.

I flinched back as she knelt in front of me to check on my head, but strangely, her touch helped me feel better. Mrs. Kovac helped me stand up from the floor and took me to have a seat on the bed.

“What are you doing?” Maggie stepped into the room, anger clear in her voice.

“What you should’ve been doing, you fool!” Mrs. Kovac stood in front of me as if to shield me. “You were supposed to be explaining the situation to her! Not trying to kill her!”

“So what if she gets a few bumps?” Maggie snorted. “Who cares what happens to her after we drain her.”

“We send her back, alive and breathing!” Esmeralda snapped. “She’s the mate to a wolf Alpha! What do you think happens if we get involved with other species? No one will turn our way if we keep the fight within our own kind, but the second we harm someone else, it’s over for all of us!”

For the first time, Maggie looked a bit afraid. “We need to erase her memories!”

“No shit, Sherlock!” Esmeralda snorted. “I will take care of the situation and you; get your ass back to the Crone.”

Maggie just turned tail and ran out of the room.

I watched the entire exchange, not knowing what on earth was happening, but one thing I could understand, was that these people…witches, they needed me for something and they wanted me to be safe at the same time. They didn’t want to start a war with Cameron’s pack…then the only thing they could possibly be after…was my magic!

Esmeralda turned back towards me, her face set in a small, comforting smile. But that smile no longer fooled me. No doubt I found her familiar when I first saw her! She looked very much like Maggie!

“I’m sorry about the misunderstandings between you and my niece.” She sighed. “She can be…difficult.”

“You want my magic, don’t you?” I asked her, even though I already knew the answer.

“You’re smart.” Her smile changed ever so slightly. “But do not worry, it’ll all be fine. You’ll be sent back to your pack right after we have what we want.”

“And why do you want it?” I asked, because I had to know. “Why would you want my magic if you’re already a witch?”

“Magic is like energy, Freya,” Esmeralda shrugged. “You can never have too much of it. You belonged to one of the most powerful covens, but that coven no longer exists. You were just born into an unfortunate coven, that is all.”

“What do you mean I ‘was’ born into an unfortunate coven?” The more she spoke, a sense of dread settled into the pit of my stomach, the same way I had felt when I had seen that fog. “What happened to my coven?”

“Oh, I’m sorry; I forgot that your mother never told you the truth.” She said almost slyly. “Well…you see…your coven was eradicated, twenty five years ago…by our coven. We thought your mother was the only one left, but then we sensed you.”

What I was hearing seemed almost impossible…but somehow, it all made sense now, didn’t it? Why my mother had left her coven and was in hiding…why my mother put a seal on me as soon as I was born…and why there was no sign of her existence in the world database for all creatures…

“I see you’ve come to some realizations.” Esmeralda smiled at me once more, leaning forward so that her face was inches away from mine. “Why don’t I give you a helping hand?”

With that, she touched a finger to my forehead and a sudden burst of pain exploded in my head, making me fall back on the bed and my vision go completely blank.
