Ava's POV
The professor began to call out some names until the last name, which was mine.
“Ava Kendall.” The professor called out my name.
People also applauded for me just the way they did for those who were being called. I was shocked and at the same time appalled that I was among those who had brilliant grades.
I rose to my feet to receive the applause, and the professor left just so our class could continue.
The class went on, and all through it, all I had on my mind was how I was going to pull through in this new class that felt like a new status to me. Truly, it didn't seem like Prince Asher pulled some strings, but I hope that I'll be able to live up to the name I was gradually making for myself.
In about half an hour more, the class ended, and the next class for me to go to was the magic class, but Jack wasn't going to be coming with me since he didn't sign up for it. So, as usual, it was going to be Jace and I. The only difference is that I won't be going to the dorm to call him. We could meet in class if we spot each other.
Jack and I walked out of the class, and he suddenly spoke after a deep silence.
“I'm still so happy for you that you were chosen as one of those who will be learning with the Prince. It's an achievement, but I hope that you won't find anything that would make you uncomfortable.” Jack said, and I let out a deep sigh.
“I hope so too, Jack. Well, I got to go. Don't want to run late for class.”
“Sure, it's fine.”
I headed to the magic class, and on my way, I met Jace.
“Hey Ava. You ready for the class?” He asked as he joined me.
“Yes, I am. I'm sure you are too.” I said, and he smiled.
We both walked into the class and had our seats by each other, and shortly after, Professor Harley walked in. We all greeted him, and he urged us to have our seats.
“Now, we'll be trying two different things today. Whoever is sitting beside you can be chosen as your partner, but it's a team of two. I will choose those to go first and will give you the instructions you need.” Professor Harley informed us, and I took in a deep breath.
It was time for trying to do well to get good grades, and definitely, I was choosing Jace as my partner.
“Alright, I see you all have chosen a partner. Jace Harrison and Ava Kendall, please make your way down to the podium.” Professor Harley urged us.
I felt really anxious, and my body was tense, but I kept on taking deep breaths to give myself a little relief.
“We are assuming that you both are going to a world to save a dying friend of yours. Yes, you need a potion from that land, but you must pass the first test to be able to gain access to that land. Now, it's that first test I want you both to pass. I will transport you both to that land, although your bodies are here. And I can see every one of your moves due to the help of magic. Ready?” Professor Harley explained.
“Yes, we are.” Jace replied even before I could say a word.
But I didn't really need to fear. After all, he's with me.
Professor Harley began to chant some words, and we closed our eyes and held hands until we found ourselves somewhere else. It was a forest.
“Alright, we need to get to work. No time to look around. I'm sure we're being tuned.” Jace urged me, and I nodded.
We both walked further into the forest, finding where we would find our first test.
“I think we need to find the portal. That should be where our first test awaits us.” Jace suggested it, and he seemed right.
Suddenly, my hunch got stronger, and I had a strong urge to do as I felt.
I bent to the ground and placed my right hand on the ground. I closed my eyes and concentrated on the energy that was surprisingly flowing through my veins. It was only deep focus that could work something out.
“I command that the portal to the other world be shown to Jace and me.” I said, with so much faith and confidence.
Before we knew it, we both noticed blood dripping from nowhere, but on the ground where I had previously placed my hand, and in no time, it began to form a trail, which was meant to lead us somewhere.
“Come on, Jace.” I urged him, and we both followed the blood trail.
We continued to follow the blood trail until we got to a place in the woods that was really strange; in fact, stranger than the ones I had ever seen.
The hairs on my skin stood, and I looked everywhere, wondering why it seemed that way.
Even Jace felt the same because he also looked at me with an expression that showed he didn’t understand what was going on.
Suddenly, everywhere became dark, and that made my heart skip a beat. We both moved a step backward, beholding what was around us. Not long after everywhere became dark, eerie sounds followed after.
Jace quickly held my hand like he was trying to protect me from whatever was going to happen soon. We began to look around to be ready for whatever wanted to come our way, and before we knew it, out of nowhere, a man in a dark cloak appeared.
How we knew he was a man was strange because we couldn’t see his face, nor could we see any skin, but probably because of the shape. But then, what was this creature here for, and what was it capable of?
Jace held my hand tighter, and we moved a step backward again, looking at the cloaked man who just stood before us without words.
