Chapter 15 15
Lucien's pov
"I'll have you see yourself out." In a brisk tone, I direct the words with ruthless coldness towards them before marching towards the exit.
"Think about the repercussions of what you're doing- " One said, quietly, I turned to see them up on their feet. The tense silence reigned between us for several seconds as I glared at them, noting the disappointed grave looks on their faces.
"Nothing I have ever done has ever been deemed approvable by any of you," I fester us the words that's been weighing on my mind. "Nothing. It's always an act of me being kept on my toes because I'm a Lycan bearing this curse of immortality and having to deal with you passing our judgements that don't make sense."
"Watch your words!" Alicia thundered, leaning over the take. "And if it hasn't dawned on you, this is us still trying to reach out because we care. You heard us, didn't you? Whatever decision the other head Alphas decide to make, we will not be held accountable for."
I half chuckle, more outraged than amused but I could let them see the toll they were having on me.
"It won't be the first time I'm going rogue. I'll be fine without you."
"Stop acting like a child- you're far off from one and you know that" Maxwell raised a hand to shush the murmurs in the room before fixing me a cold stare that seemed to tear into the gaping hole in my soul and look into it. "You've lived much longer than anyone else on this planet earth besides us. You've had countless mates. Tell the truth to yourself if you find it hard to hear it from others. It will be preferable Lena Thornwell grows old and die with her mates than you having to go through another pain of losing her while you live."
"She -"
"What ?" William cut in with a smug sneer. "She's different? Yeah maybe because she's Polyandrous but that's all. She's no different than all the women you fucked and will will fuck after her. Do you think your nephews will treat her differently?"
Without making any rational thinking, I dash forward with gritted teeth, aiming for his throat, but I'm propelled backwards, staggering back with both feet shuffling backwards in the ground.
I raise my head, eyes crimson and raging, canines bearing to see Maxwell has formed a barrier around all seven of them.
"That was close..." Alicia looked appalled as she watched me. it was then, just as my state of rage slowly dissipated that I noticed that it wasn't just her. They were all looking at me strangely.
"If I had been a second late, he'd have got you.." Maxwell, hands out steadying the portal around them, whispered.
Tension hung heavily in the air for a while as they exchanged looks before turning to me.
"He's getting stronger. If the Alphas won't keep them apart, then we should do something!" One bellowed.
Their gazes were filled with apprehension and scorn. All my life I've walked into rooms, used to smelling the fear and hate off of people. If they pretended to like me or get along with me, it was for an alliance beneficial to us both or for protection.
Right now I could almost taste the fear fermenting off of their old scaly bodies, I narrowed my eyes, realizing I could see the forcefield around them thinning out.
Which was unusual because I could never see through their powers much more and almost try to hurt them.
If they were right about Lena, what made them think I was ready to give her up to my nephews? To have to share her with them of all people would be a disgrace. They of all people should know that even though they can't relate.
"We'll leave you to make a choice before tomorrow. Dusk." William, glaring hatefully at me with his small round eyes spat in retribution.
"Until then, while you have custody of the she-wolf, ensure she's not let out of your sight." Maxwell calmly claimed, hands down, the forcefield vanishing just as immediately. They were trying to avoid having to talk about what just happened.
"You think I'm going to give her up to my nephews that easily?" The corner of my lips lifts from amusement and bitterness.
"No," there's a certain glint in Maxwell's eyes that causes the smirk to disappear. "I don't mean the twins. I mean the shifters."
"The shifter wants us all dead." I state the obvious. "I'm already aware I have to protect my mate, just as I'm part of the war-"
"That's not what I meant. Lena Thornwell is Polyandrous. If the shifters are aware of this... They could probably even be aware, Lena could be the last of her kind. They'd come after her. Every chance they have."
I want to ask why, what they want with her but I refuse to let them see I was distraught on what the shifters would want with my mate. Me as their target is something I could handle, but her? Why?
Instead I kept silent, standing still, watching as they walked past without a word. William is the last to leave, and we make eye contact before his shoulder is shoved into mine.
I'm left alone with my thoughts for a moment before I call in an Omega and have her prepare a quill and ink for me to write on to get a message across.
Back in my office, under the candle shade, I write the letter, the room quiet but for the strokes of the tip of the quill on the scroll.
The Omegas stands before me- ready to receive it and send it off to the person I'm writing too. It was going to be a far journey to get to him, and I haven't written in a while, not since his last letter two decades ago- I'm not sure he'd even want to hear me out. I could at least try.
"Have his write back. Deem it important and do not come back till he does, am I understood?" I hand the letter before rising.
She bows. "Yes, your Majesty."
And with that she leaves.
My mind returns back to a certain feisty wolves who wanted to slice through all fingers of mine today. I smirk, wondering if she's cooled down after being left with her thoughts for a while and to think of the repercussions of what she's done..
As I approach her room, a thought I've been pushing away for the longest time hits me.
If she learns she's Polyandrous, it might be highly likely that she'd still want to be with me, especially when she discovers the hierarchy she possesses with her status now.
She may not have willingly wanted a relationship whatsoever with the twins, but the mate bond was stronger. Just as I pulled us both in, closer and closer despite how hard I tried to resist it, it was something undeniably, if I couldn't fight it, then she could easily succumb to it.
Upon approaching the door, my brows are furrowing, I sense something is off. Her scent. I can't smell it.
In slight panic, I hurriedly twist and push in quickly- into an empty room. She's escaped. I could tell by the curtains laying from the open windows.
It was noon, the sun was as bright as it rained down hot streams of rays upon every inch of the floor boards in the room, and she thought it was befitting to run Away? Now?
I mindlink the guards spread over the horizon of the pack.
"Every single one of you was on duty when she escaped this room. If she's not found in the next hour, I'll have your heads." With that, I head to the window, already noticing the commotion in the compound as everyone sought to search for her.
I catch onto her scent the moment I push my head out the window and it instantly draws me in. My wolf's claws in the restraints of my mind in a bid to go after her, the mate bond searing into our body like heat, enshrouding our senses In nothing but senseless thought.
Without thinking, hand over the pane, I leap down from the high building, landing on the tree close to it with its branch laid out.
On the branch I turn to survey her room from up there and notice how she has come down from such a height. She has don several sheets together, forming a rope which was long enough to carry her down and the sheets thick enough to old her weight as she slides down.
I smirk. Smart girl.
Unfortunately for her, she wasn't a very fast runner.
I run my tongue over my canines already relishing the sweet taste of her scent wafting through my nostrils before I dash from branch to branch, vanishing into the dark thick forest.
