Chapter 12 Mixed Feeling
Rever
The instant I made my demand the whole area was suddenly enveloped in silence. Only the chirping sound of the birds could be heard. A moment passed before men from the other carriage marched out and surrounded me.
"You really have the nerve to ask to see our lord" one of them scoffed.
"A peasant like you is not fit" He added.
I scoffed inwardly, marveling at how ignorant they were.
"Look again, stupid" I scowled.
"Do I look like a peasant to you?" I questioned, adjusting my cloak.
"Pay the money and we shall depart in peace" said the old man I had spoken to earlier.
"You definitely do not want us attacking you" another chipped in.
I suddenly thought of Lesmay. If he was here, these men would have had their limbs torn apart within a few seconds. Threatening me was already a crime, but insulting an alpha was unacceptable.
I scanned them. They were about twenty in number.
"I really do not mind being attack" I said, pulling of my cloak and getting ready to shift.
"Haha...you actually think you can take us on. You must be so full of yourself" One of them snarled.
"We're going to teach you a lesson you'll never forget" another butted in.
"We don't have to charge at him at once. Let's take our time to enjoy the show" He added.
With those words, three of them stepped and shifted Immediately, their clothes ripping into shreds. To my amazement, their wolves were so small that even a boulder could crush them into bits. I didn't see any reason to shift, so I simply stood waiting for their attack.
It seemed my actions enraged them, because they kept on snarling, their bloodshot eyes fixed on me.
"Are you going to attack or not?" I questioned absentmindedly.
I wanted to end this charade as quick as possible, so I can take Sharon home.
Home? It felt pleasing to the heart.
A moment passed before the three wolves darted towards me swiftly. I must admit, they were fast, but compared to an alpha, their speed was non existent.
My claws simply elongated and slashed the neck of the one that got to me first and he died instantly. The fangs of the second one almost got me,but I was swift enough to leap backwards. This one was quite strong and I could tell. Still, he couldn't make me shift.
I glanced at the remaining two. They were close to each other which made them a easy target. This time, I was going to attack.
I squatted a bit,my fangs and claws elongating further. The moment I took off, I reached their spot in a twinkling of an eye and slashed their necks, creating deep scars that gushed out blood till they bled to death.
Despite the bloodshed, I didn't feel the urge to fight burn in me. Boring was an understatement.
Letting out a deep sigh, I turned and glared fiercely at the rest of the men.
"Is that all you've got?" I questioned with a lazy tone.
"You're wasting my time" I added.
They all stepped back slowly, their eyes glittering with great trepidation. I understood their fear. I had taken down three wolves without shifting. It was undoubtedly a feat that was barely achievable.
"Don't just stand there. Kill him!" The old man roared in rage.
The men had lost the zeal to fight, but clearly, they were scared of him. Another three prepared themselves, but this time, they didn't stay on a spot and tried to surround me.
"Worthless" I muttered,my voice barely audible.
To their dismay, I disappeared into thin air and appeared on the same spot. But one thing was different and that was the dead bodies of the three wolves that were there earlier, now covered in blood.
"Who are you?" A man squirmed fearfully.
"He's a monster. We can't kill him" another yelled.
"Since we can't kill him, let's destroy his carriage and leave" a man suggested.
My eyes widened in horror the moment I saw four of them shift and plung at the carriage, baring their disgusting fangs. It was at that point I appreciated the godspeed the goddess had bestowed upon me.
I ran at a crazy speed, hoping to reach the carriage before them. I saw Sharon's head pop out, giving me the slim chance I needed to save her. I grabbed her by the neck and pulled her towards me as we fell to the ground.
The pain I felt from the huge impact of the fall in my back was nothing compared to the joy I felt seeing her safe and unscathed.
Sharon
The argument went on and on, piquing my interest. Fear gripped me as I realized I had to peep out to get a clearer view of what was going on. I remained in until I heard the sound of claws and fangs clashing against each other.
It was obviously a fight. A bloody one. After a while, I summoned up courage to take a look. With my head out of the carriage, I suddenly heard a snarl and looked up. A mix of horror and regret creeped intl my heart as the distance between I and the wolves in the air closed up.
Maybe it was high time I left the world, or so I thought. Suddenly, I felt sharp claws around my neck. I couldn't explain how,but the next second, I found myself lying on Mikel's broad chest.
"What happened?" I asked with voice barely audible.
My body trembled as I tried to sit up,but my body had become limp. Thanks to Mikel, I managed to stand up.
"Calm down, Sharon. You'll be fine" Mikel whispered into my ears, his hot breath tickling.
"I need you to trust me" He added.
His eyes glittered with a mix of sincerity and confidence, and somehow, the fear in my heart dissipated.
"Okay" I managed to utter.
It was then I decided to take a quick glance at my surroundings. The corpses on the ground made me cringe in disgust. Took me a lot of strength to not throw up. The rest of the men standing all had a look of horror on their faces.
"What in shaven's name is going on here?" A man voice cut through the silence.
The men standing all shifted their gazes to the fine carriage. It felt so familiar; the carriage and the voice. No. Maybe I was hallucinating.
Yes. That was it.
I had such thoughts until I sighted the man who got out of the carriage with a prideful aura. It felt like a dream that I had to pinch myself. Unfortunately, the pain was real.
"Lestrange" I gasped in shock and covered my mouth.
Why was he here? What was going to happen now?
