Chapter 62 Chapter 21.2
I poured my time into watching YouTube. These past few days, I’ve been watching videos about the things I need to do as a first-time mom. I can’t help but worry because there’s still so much I don’t know. I want to stay at my mom’s place when I give birth. If I tell him, will he agree?
I don’t know how to bathe a newborn. I’m afraid I might drop the baby or get water in their ears. What if I can’t stop the baby from crying? What if it ends up with both of us crying?
I looked at Desmond. He was seriously focused on his computer. I didn’t want to bother him because I knew he had a lot to do. I checked the time, my OB appointment was at two in the afternoon because that was my schedule. Desmond knew I had a check-up today and he wanted to come with me.
After lunch, Desmond excused himself. He had to go somewhere, so I was left alone in his office. When my eyes started hurting, I stopped watching. I grabbed a magazine and read that instead.
I kept glancing at the time because it was almost two o’clock, yet Desmond still wasn’t back. Would he still be able to come with me to my check-up? I took my phone and messaged him. He didn’t reply right away. I waited a few more minutes.
It takes us half an hour to get from the company to the hospital, but it was already 1:30 and Desmond still wasn’t here. When my phone rang, I quickly answered it.
“Love, I won’t make it on time. I’m still in a meeting. I asked Zachary to drive you to the hospital. I’m really sorry, love. I really want to come with you but I can’t get out.”
“I understand. Don’t worry, I can handle the check-up alone. Just finish what you need to finish. I’ll call you as soon as I’m done with my check-up,” I told him so he wouldn’t worry. I really didn’t mind that he couldn’t come with me today, I understood he was busy.
“Be careful, okay? Call me right away. If we finish here and you’re still at the hospital, I’ll go to you immediately.” I smiled.
“Alright, take care.” I replied. I grabbed my bag and left the company. As I reached the entrance, Zachary arrived just in time. He opened the door for me, so I thanked him.
“Is it your due date already? Are you going into labor?” Zachary asked. I laughed at him.
“Not yet, my due date is next month. Isn’t Desmond with you in the meeting today?”
“I wasn’t needed there. I thought you were going into labor. Desmond called me to take you to the hospital. He didn’t even tell me it was just a check-up. I rushed here for nothing.” I laughed at what he said.
“Thank you for the effort of coming here right away. Next time, ask him if it’s already labor so you won’t panic and rush over like this.” Zachary just laughed.
“I’m sure when your due date comes, Desmond won’t leave your side. He’s so excited to see and hold your baby. Desmond is different now. I’ve seen him in love before, but the sparkle in his eyes now is completely different.” I gave him a small smile. I hope he never changes, I hope that smile never disappears from his lips.
“Do you have any news about Macie? Has she gone back to France?” I asked. Macie hadn’t returned to the company nor visited the house. I just wanted to know how she was.
“I don’t know. I haven’t heard anything about where she is. Macie and I aren’t exactly close.” Zachary replied. If she really has left the country, I just hope she arrived safely in France.
When we arrived at the hospital, I got out of the car.
“Do you want me to wait until you’re done?” he asked.
“Yes, but just wait here in the car.” I said, and he nodded. I went inside the hospital and straight to my OB’s clinic. I smiled at the monitor because I could clearly see my baby. He was active inside my womb, and my doctor and I laughed because he kept kicking the ultrasound device.
“His heartbeat is normal. His hands and feet are complete. Try to reduce your food intake for now because he’s already three kilos. You might have a hard time delivering him normally.” I suddenly felt nervous because he was growing so fast. During my last check-up, he was only 2.3 kilos, and now he was already 3 kilos.
When the check-up was done, I stood up. She gave me my vitamins again, and I left. I was smiling as I walked while looking at the copy of my ultrasound. Desmond would surely be happy again when he sees the video I took while watching our baby on the monitor.
“Heaven?” I looked up when I heard my name. It was Macie. I noticed she had lost weight and her eyes looked tired and sunken. “It’s really you. Can we talk?” What was she doing at the hospital? I thought she already left the country.
“What do you want to say? I need to get back soon,” I answered.
“Follow me.” she said before turning around. I didn’t want to follow her, but I did. I also wanted to apologize to her. Surely, she and Desmond would still be together now if I hadn’t gotten pregnant.
Macie opened the exit door. I followed her. When we got inside, I walked slightly past her since she was still near the door.
“I thought you already left the country. What are you doing here at the hospital?” I asked. She closed the door and faced me.
“Are you happy now?” she asked. I could feel the sadness in her voice. Yes, I wanted to answer, but I knew it would hurt her. “You succeeded in your plan, Heaven. Are you happy now that he chose you?” she added.
“Before you left the country, I talked to you. I asked you to choose Desmond before it was too late. Is it my fault that he loved me during the time you left him?” I answered firmly. Macie gave a bitter smile before her expression turned serious.
“Do you really think I’m just going to let you be happy?”
