Chapter 61 Chapter 21.1

Chapter 61 Chapter 21.1
HEAVEN’S POV

I couldn’t stop smiling as I arranged our baby’s things in the nursery. Desmond was in the kitchen, and I could hear the faint clatter of pans while I folded tiny clothes and stacked diapers. I was almost eight months pregnant now, just one more month to go. Desmond had insisted I start my maternity leave early, he didn’t want me working too much.

I hated relying on him and his family for everything. I still wanted to help mine whenever I could, even if they never asked for anything. But no matter how many times I told Desmond that, he never listened, he only wanted me resting.

And still… I couldn’t believe he chose me. Even now, the thought alone made my heart flutter like someone was tickling it from the inside.

But the moment Macie entered my thoughts, my smile slowly faded.

I wondered if she was okay.

I knew how deeply she loved Desmond. She must be hurting now, if what Desmond said was true, and they really did talk.
I hoped she was fine. I hoped she’d eventually accept what happened between them. I hoped she’d realize it was her choices that caused the distance, Desmond had proposed to her so many times, and she had rejected him every single time. Anyone would grow tired. They weren’t getting any younger either, and I understood why Desmond finally wanted to build a family.

It was sad, knowing I became part of the reason they fell apart. But I never controlled Desmond’s decisions. He was the one who chose to stay, with me.

“Hey,” he called from the doorway, “are you still not done? Dinner’s ready.”

“I’m almost done. I’ll head down in a second,” I replied.
Desmond helped me finish so we could eat together. After dinner, we curled up on the couch to watch TV. I rested against him while his arm wrapped warmly over my shoulder. We barely talked. We just enjoyed each other’s presence, me, nibbling on the popcorn he made, him, occasionally glancing down at me with that soft look he only ever gave now.

I wished moments like this would last forever. Peaceful. Warm. Simple.
I didn’t mind facing problems with him someday, but please, not because of another woman. I could choose him over and over again, but if the conflict involved another woman, I wasn’t sure how I’d handle it… or if I even could.

My eyes grew heavy. I tried to stay awake to finish the show, but eventually sleep pulled me in.

\---

I woke up the next morning in our bed, sunlight spilling past the curtains. I wasn’t surprised to find Desmond gone, he must’ve carried me upstairs last night.

Carried me.
Up the stairs.
While I weighed sixty-five kilos at eight months pregnant.

How did he even manage that?

I got up carefully and made my way downstairs, heading straight to the kitchen because I knew I’d find him there. Sure enough, he was by the stove, cooking. My handsome husband, busy with breakfast.

I approached him quietly and wrapped my arms around him from behind. He jolted a little, then chuckled.

“Good morning,” he said.
I let go and he turned just enough to kiss me softly before continuing his cooking. The fried rice smelled amazing, and immediately my cravings kicked in.

“Looks like I’m going to overeat again,” I muttered.

“I’ll cook whatever you want every day,” he replied. “You need your strength especially when you give birth.”
I kissed his cheek, amused at how dedicated he was to feeding me when we literally had a cook available if he wanted help.

“Can I come with you to the company today?” I asked. “I’ll just get bored here alone. I promise I won’t bother you while you work.”

He paused, clearly thinking about it. I widened my eyes and pouted a little, my secret weapon. He burst out laughing.

“Fine. How could I ever say no to you?” he said, smiling.

After breakfast, we got ready. With my stomach so large, I struggled to bend over, so Desmond helped me dress. It was embarrassing watching him pull my underwear up for me but I honestly had no choice anymore.

During the drive, we held hands the whole time. Desmond even lifted my hand to his lips for quick kisses every now and then, his eyes still fixed on the road. When we arrived, he didn’t let go of my hand, as if he wanted everyone to see. My cheeks warmed, he looked too proud.

Employees bowed respectfully as we passed, and though I still wasn’t used to it, I couldn’t do anything. I was married to the CEO, being stared at was inevitable.

“Do you want me to buy your milk later?” he asked as the elevator doors closed.

“You want me to turn into a whale?” I huffed. “I already ate so much, and now you want me to eat again? What if the baby gets too big and I can’t deliver normally?”

Desmond only laughed and kissed my forehead.

“I just want to make sure you’re not hungry.”

“I’ll tell you if I am,” I promised.

The elevator opened just as we both stepped out and ran into the chairman. We immediately bowed. His eyes dropped to our hands, still intertwined. I tried pulling mine away, but Desmond tightened his grip.

“Good morning, Chairman,” we greeted.

“How are you two?” he asked warmly.

“We’re doing well, Chairman. How about your health?” Desmond answered.

“I’m fine, dear. Heaven, when is your due date? It looks like my grandchild is ready to meet the world.” He sounded truly excited.
I smiled politely.

“I’ll be eight months next week, Chairman. I still have a month to go.”

“I can’t wait to see him. Call me immediately once she goes into labor, Desmond. We want to see our grandchild as soon as possible.”

“We will, Chairman,” Desmond replied.

After the chairman left, we continued to his office, still hand in hand.

And for once, it felt like everything was exactly where it was meant to be.
