Chapter 58 Chapter 20.1
When Desmond’s parents arrived back in the country, they went straight to Desmond’s office. When they opened the door, they saw Macie sitting on the sofa. Shiermy’s brows furrowed when she saw her son’s ex-girlfriend.
“Macie? What are you doing here?” Shiermy asked. Macie smiled and greeted her with a cheek kiss. Shiermy was still surprised, but she allowed it.
“Nice to see you again, Auntie. I brought food for Desmond, but he’s still not here. How have you been?” she said with a smile. Shiermy and Romulo exchanged looks. They wondered where Heaven was, and what Macie was doing inside their son’s office.
“When did you come back? Are you returning to France soon?” Shiermy asked. Macie shook her head and smiled.
“I decided to stay here for good, Auntie. I want to stay so I can be with Desmond.” Romulo cleared his throat at her words.
“Desmond is married. Do you want to be a mistress?” he said bluntly.
“We all know Desmond was forced to marry Heaven because he got her pregnant. He told me before that he would leave Heaven once I returned.” Desmond’s father’s jaw tightened. Shiermy let out a small laugh, pretending to stay calm. She could feel her husband’s anger rising, and she knew Desmond would surely face it later.
“Macie, dear, what you and Desmond want to do isn’t that easy. Have you asked him again if he still wants to leave Heaven now? The whole country knows who Desmond’s wife is. You also know they’re about to have a baby. Do you want your face plastered online with the caption Desmond’s mistress?” Shiermy said. Macie looked seriously at Desmond’s parents. She could feel they didn’t want Desmond to leave Heaven, but she wasn’t going to give up. She would take back what belonged to her.
“Desmond loves me, Auntie. You know that. I know he’s been waiting for me all this time, and he only introduced Heaven to the media to make me jealous and force me to come back. His plan worked, because I’m here now. I’m not leaving Desmond again. Please… don’t take him away from me. I love your son so much,” Macie pleaded.
Romulo sat down on the sofa and propped his feet up on the table, waiting for his son to arrive so they could talk.
When the door opened, Heaven and Desmond entered. Romulo looked at his son with a blank expression. Desmond turned to Macie, he swallowed dryly, knowing his parents certainly didn’t want to see her in his office.
Romulo stood and faced Desmond.
“Fix this, Desmond. Don’t you dare put our family’s name to shame,” he said firmly before walking out.
“Heaven, where did you two go?” Shiermy asked.
“We had lunch outside, Mom,” Heaven replied politely. Shiermy smiled. Macie clenched her teeth in irritation. She glared at Desmond, but he quickly looked away.
“Desmond looks well, thanks to your care. Don’t forget to take care of yourself too, okay?” Shiermy said to Heaven. Heaven nodded. Shiermy then followed her husband, leaving the three of them inside the office.
“What is the meaning of this?” Macie demanded angrily at Desmond. “Are you still punishing me because I didn’t give you what you wanted before? You told me you would leave Heaven once I stayed here, but why do you seem unsure now?!” she yelled. Desmond dragged a hand over his face.
“And you, Heaven! Are you poisoning my boyfriend’s mind?!”
“Don’t be angry at Heaven. She’s done nothing to you,” Desmond said, trying to calm her. Macie couldn’t stop herself from crying. Desmond’s expression softened when he saw her tears, he had a weakness for crying women. He sighed heavily. He wanted to comfort Macie, but he was afraid Heaven would be the one hurt.
“I’ll step out so you two can talk,” Heaven said gently. Once she was outside, she let out a long, deep breath. Just thinking about Desmond and Macie possibly hugging inside made her chest tighten with pain. She lightly tapped her own chest as if that could lessen the ache.
She didn’t even know where to go to pass the time. She simply walked until she reached the far end of the company building. When she saw Macie crying earlier, she felt guilty. She was the reason the two broke up. It made her feel like she was the villain in Desmond and Macie’s love story.
“What are you doing here alone?” Heaven turned and saw Zachary. She thought no one would find her in that spot since employees rarely went there.
“I just wanted to be alone,” Heaven replied. Zachary faced the glass wall and slipped his hands into his pockets.
“Is Macie with Desmond inside the office?” he asked. Heaven didn’t answer, Zachary understood what that meant.
“Can you still handle this? Do you still want to stay?” he asked. Heaven thought for a moment. She wanted to stay. She wanted to fight for her feelings for Desmond. But she couldn’t help wondering, what if she was only forcing Desmond to choose her?
It wasn’t easy to erase feelings for someone. She was sure Desmond still loved Macie.
“I’m waiting for Desmond’s decision. Even if I fight for him against Macie… even if I force him to choose me and our baby, if his heart still belongs to Macie, there’s nothing I can do. I need to let him go.”
“What if Desmond is confused about what he feels for you and for Macie?”
“I’ll wait. I’ll wait until he’s ready to choose. Am I being too desperate if I wish he would choose me? Will I look desperate if I use our baby just to make him stay?” Zachary couldn’t answer. He looked at Heaven. He knew she had already fallen deeply for his friend. Zachary could only grin faintly, his friend was incredibly lucky. Two women loved him so much.
