Chapter 53 Chapter 18.2
Heaven smiled sweetly when Desmond’s face was the first thing she saw upon waking up. Until now, she still couldn’t believe that they eventually fell in love with each other, even if their marriage had been forced from the start.
She sat up since she couldn’t fall back asleep. She did a bit of stretching because her back and hips were hurting again. She wanted to cook breakfast for Desmond, but she knew he would only get mad at her for moving too much.
She returned to the bed and gazed at Desmond. Even though they hadn’t loved each other when they got married, she was happy that their relationship had turned out well. Heaven gently brushed Desmond’s hair. She wished for nothing else but for their relationship to remain strong in the years to come.
She’d gotten used to having Desmond always by her side. She didn’t know what her life would be like if Desmond ever left her.
“Don’t leave me, please,” Heaven whispered softly. Her chest ached. She was terrified that Desmond would leave her once Macie returned. She hadn’t planned on falling for him, but after he confessed his feelings, she could no longer stop her own.
When Desmond finally woke up, he smiled. He wrapped his arms around Heaven as soon as he saw her.
“Good morning. What are you doing there?” Desmond asked in a husky, sleepy voice, his eyes still closed as he rested his head on Heaven’s lap while hugging her.
“I’m memorizing your handsome face,” Heaven replied. Desmond smiled and opened his eyes.
“Are you hungry already?” His eyes were still red from waking up.
“If I say yes, will you cook for me?”
Desmond immediately sat up and looked at her.
“You’re hungry? Why didn’t you wake me so I could cook for you?”
Heaven chuckled and pinched his cheek.
“Not yet. I’m still enjoying staring at your face.”
Desmond hugged her and kissed the top of her head.
“Where did you learn to say things like that? You already know how to make me blush. Stop making me blush.”
Heaven laughed and pulled away gently.
“You’re awake now, can we eat?” she asked. Desmond nodded and got out of bed.
They went downstairs together and headed to the kitchen. Desmond prepared a glass of milk for Heaven so she wouldn’t get hungry while he was cooking.
Heaven scrolled through social media while drinking her milk. She froze when she saw a picture of her and Desmond posted online. Her throat tightened, she and Desmond were trending.
She checked the comments. She swallowed hard because it seemed like the single women weren’t happy to find out that Desmond was already married. As she continued scrolling through the comment section, she saw one particular comment, it was a screenshot of Macie’s post. Heaven frowned. She searched for Macie’s account on Instagram and found her post.
\[Slut snake\] Macie had written. Many people had already commented, saying they knew exactly who Macie was referring to.
Someone had even turned Heaven’s photo into a meme.
“What are you looking at? You’ve been staring at your phone for a while,” Desmond said behind her. Heaven quickly lowered her phone, not realizing he was already standing there.
“It’s nothing. Are you done cooking? Can I eat now?” She forced her voice to sound cheerful to stop him from asking more questions.
“Not yet. Do you want fruit? We have a lot in the fridge, I can peel them for you.”
Heaven shook her head.
“No, I don’t feel like eating fruit right now.”
Desmond didn’t insist. When he finished cooking, they ate together.
Heaven’s face showed no expression when they entered the company. She kept thinking about the comments she had read about her and Desmond.
She didn’t want to be stressed, but how could she not be, when people were calling her things like:
\[Gold digger!\]
She let out a deep breath. Was it really her fault that Desmond fell in love with her?
Heaven avoided social media entirely so she wouldn’t see more posts about her. She rested her feet on the sofa. When the door opened, she thought it was Desmond, but her throat tightened when she saw Macie instead.
Macie stared at her coldly. Heaven quickly looked away. Anger filled Macie’s eyes.
“Where’s Desmond?” she demanded.
“He left,” Heaven replied shortly.
Macie walked toward her and slammed her bag onto the table.
“I told you to look after Desmond, but why did you cross the line? What did you do to him? Did you trap him in a situation he didn’t want? Did you force him to introduce you publicly? That was your plan, wasn’t it?!” she screamed.
Heaven clenched her jaw in irritation and stood up to face her.
“I told you not to leave him before it was too late. Is it my fault he introduced ME as his wife in public? I didn’t steal anything from you, Macie. Desmond repeatedly begged you to marry him, but what did you do? You kept pushing him away. Desmond decided everything, introducing me, announcing our child. You left him, and now you’re blaming me?”
Macie balled her fists but paused when she glanced at Heaven’s big belly.
“I will take back what’s mine. You have nothing, Heaven. And it’s not my fault if you get hurt when Desmond leaves you because starting today, I’m living here in the Philippines. And I will make sure I win him back. I’m sure you already know how much Desmond loves me.”
Macie left. Heaven lowered her head and let out a long, shaky breath.
She was starting to fear what Macie might do.
What if Desmond really went back to her?
