Chapter 46 Chapter 16.1
HEAVEN’S POV
I didn’t know how to position my feet because my lower abdomen felt squeezed. I wanted to raise my legs, but the space was too small.
“Are you okay?” Kyla asked me again.
“I can’t lift my legs. I’m not comfortable in my space anymore,” I replied, because it felt so cramped. I could barely breathe properly.
“Why don’t you just tell Sir Desmond? I’m sure he’ll give you a bigger working station.”
But I didn’t want to bother Desmond anymore since I knew he was busy.
“I’m fine here. I just need to figure out where to put my feet so I can be comfortable,” I told her.
“You should just work in my office so you’ll be more comfortable.”
Kyla and I turned to look at Desmond, who was suddenly standing behind me. He checked under my working station.
“Why didn’t you tell me you weren’t comfortable at your desk anymore?” he asked, but I didn’t answer.
I didn’t want to take advantage of him. I didn’t want to depend on him too much because if I got used to it, I might end up looking for him all the time.
“Just work in my office for now,” he said, taking my hand.
“Yeah, just work there so you’ll be more comfortable,” Kyla agreed.
So I ended up following Desmond to his office. He even carried my bag—the one he gifted me.
“By the way, I’ll be gone for a week. Do you want to stay at my mom’s place for now? I want to be sure you’ll have someone with you. In case something happens, or if you feel any pain, you can get help right away.”
“Business trip?” I asked, and he nodded.
A week? A whole week without seeing him or being with him?
My lips unconsciously pouted. He wasn’t even gone yet, but I already missed him.
Desmond sat beside me and gently caressed my cheek. He looked at me sweetly.
“A week will go by fast. Once I finish my tasks, I’ll come back right away, okay?” he said softly.
I just nodded. When he kissed my forehead, my heart suddenly raced. He’s the reason why my heartbeat always feels abnormal.
“What country are you going to?” I asked.
“New York. I don’t want to leave you, but they need me there. They need me, so I can’t refuse.”
I nodded. I wouldn’t stop him. Over the past months we’ve spent together, I’ve been happiest when I’m with him.
We didn’t bring up Macie anymore because I was afraid—afraid to know how he really felt. Afraid to get hurt.
“I’ll just go home to my family so I can spend time with them,” I said.
I was too shy to stay with Desmond’s parents. I couldn’t just do what I wanted there because I was scared I might hear unpleasant words, even though I knew they were kind people.
I get sleepy easily now even right after waking up, so at least at home I can rest properly—and order my siblings around whenever I want food.
“If that’s the case, I’ll have an air conditioner installed in your room so you won’t get too warm. I want you to sleep comfortably.”
I smiled at him.
“I already had one installed after we visited our family. I wanted it ready in case we return so you can sleep comfortably.”
He patted my head, then kissed me on the lips. My eyes widened in surprise. He even gently bit my lower lip.
“Then wait for me there, okay? I’ll pick you up once I’m back in the country,” he said before standing up.
I swallowed hard, feeling like his lips were still on mine.
It was my first kiss. I didn’t know how to react.
When we got home, I packed the things I’d bring. I put everything in my small suitcase. Once I was done, Desmond loaded it into the car and drove me home.
His flight was after lunch, but he dropped me off first. He said he wanted to make sure I’d get home safely. My family was already expecting me since I told them earlier that I’d be staying for a week.
When we arrived, Desmond unloaded my things. As soon as my mom heard the car, they all rushed out of the house.
“Heaven!” Jerome called excitedly as he ran to hug me. Dad helped Desmond bring my things inside.
“Nothing left behind?” Dad asked Desmond.
“None, Dad,” Desmond replied.
“Let’s go inside first,” Mom said, but Desmond declined.
“My flight is after lunch, so I need to get to the airport. Please take care of my wife for me. I know you won’t let anything happen to her, but if something does, call me right away so I can come home.”
Mom smiled and patted Desmond’s arm. I felt my heart flutter—my wife, he said.
“Don’t worry, we won’t let anything happen to Heaven. You take care of yourself. Come home safe to my daughter,” Mom told him.
Desmond nodded and smiled.
“I’ll go now, Mom,” he said, then looked at Dad. “Dad.”
“Take care, son,” Dad replied.
Then Desmond turned to me and came closer.
“Call me right away if you need me. Don’t forget your vitamins, understand?” he reminded me.
I nodded.
I swallowed hard when he kissed my forehead, then gently touched and kissed my stomach. I felt embarrassed because my family was right there—but Desmond didn’t seem bothered at all.
“Baby, Daddy’s leaving for now. Don’t give Mommy a hard time, okay?” he whispered to our child.
I couldn’t look at my parents. I was too embarrassed—but Desmond didn’t seem to feel any shame at all.
He got in the car and left. We stayed outside until his car disappeared from view.
“Why are your cheeks red, Heaven? You’re giddy, aren’t you?” Anica teased, laughing.
I glared at her.
