Chapter 45 Chapter 15.3
After Heaven finished buying new clothes, they headed to the shoe section. Desmond asked her to sit on the sofa while he picked out several pairs of shoes for her.
“I wanted to buy you some heels, but you can’t wear those yet since you’re pregnant. You should wear flats for now so you’ll be comfortable walking. Do you like this design?” Desmond asked, showing her a pair he picked. Everything Desmond chose looked beautiful—it seemed like he really knew how to shop for women’s things.
Desmond gently took Heaven’s foot and helped her try on the shoe. It fit perfectly. Heaven’s shoe size used to be 36, but now it had gone up to 39 because her feet were slightly swollen.
“Have you told your OB about the swelling in your feet? Is that normal?” Desmond asked, still holding her foot.
“I just need to walk more in the morning. I sit all day at the office, that’s probably why they swell,” Heaven replied.
“You go walking in the morning? I’ll come with you.” Desmond said casually. Heaven glanced at the salesladies nearby, who were clearly swooning over Desmond’s words.
She tried not to hope for anything. She knew Desmond was only taking care of her because of their baby.
“Why are you getting so many pairs again? Two shoes are enough for me,” Heaven said, trying to stop him.
“Only two? Are you planning to wear them alternately every day? You’ll need shoes daily. And if you’re not comfortable in those, you can wear these flat sandals instead.” Desmond grabbed several pairs of flat sandals as well. Heaven could only sigh and rub her forehead. How were they supposed to take all of this home? There was no way everything would fit in the car.
“Is there anything else you need?” Desmond asked. Heaven shook her head—they had already bought everything she needed, including new bras and underwear.
After they finished, they went to the baby section. Heaven lovingly ran her fingers over the cribs, while Desmond looked through the newborn clothes. She walked over to him, smiling.
They still didn’t know their baby’s gender, even though Heaven was already four months pregnant. Desmond wanted to do a NIPT test so they could find out sooner, but Heaven preferred to wait.
“What do you think—boy or girl?” Desmond asked, still browsing through the baby clothes.
“I don’t know yet. We’ll find out at my next check-up if the baby decides to show. What about you—what do you want?” Heaven asked. Desmond smiled.
“Whatever the gender is, it’s fine with me. Do you want to buy these?” He pointed at some white newborn clothes. Since they didn’t know the gender yet, it was safer to buy neutral-colored ones.
“If that’s what you want, then sure, let’s buy them,” Heaven replied. But her eyes widened when Desmond started taking all the displayed clothes—one after another, grabbing overalls, pajamas, and sets. Heaven quickly stopped him.
“At least check the sizes first. We should only buy 0–3 months for now. We can always come back when the baby grows out of them,” she reasoned. Desmond looked at the pile of clothes he had already messed up. Heaven could only shake her head.
“It’s a waste of time to put them back. Let’s just buy them all,” Desmond said casually. Heaven sighed deeply. Still, they happily continued shopping for their baby’s things—cribs, toys, and nursery supplies. Heaven tried to stop Desmond from buying too much, but she couldn’t help smiling at how excited he was.
When they were done, Heaven’s mouth fell open in disbelief. They would need a wing van just to bring everything home.
“Do you think we can return some of these?” she asked. Desmond just smiled as he looked at their purchases.
“No need. We’re not returning anything,” he said, walking off to pay. The store staff began packing everything up while Heaven just watched, amazed.
“Are you tired? What do you want to eat?” Desmond asked once he was done.
“I want pasta and lasagna,” Heaven quickly replied.
They left the store and searched for a restaurant that served both dishes. When they found one, Desmond placed their order while Heaven sat down, gently massaging her sore feet from all the walking. When Desmond came back, he noticed.
“Do your feet hurt?” he asked.
“They’re just tired from all the walking,” she said with a small smile. Desmond nodded.
They didn’t go back to the company that day, they had spent almost the whole day at the mall. When they got home, the wing van carrying their purchases arrived. Heaven sat on the sofa while Desmond supervised the staff arranging everything.
Night had already fallen by the time they finished. Desmond was exhausted, but there was pure joy on his face as he set up their baby’s things.
“Are you hungry?” he asked.
Heaven raised an eyebrow. Desmond had been ordering food for her almost every hour—and now he was asking again?
“I’ve been eating non-stop. I’m too full for dinner. There’s still a lot left from what you ordered earlier, you should eat that,” she said.
Desmond chuckled and began eating, realizing he was hungry too.
When they finished, they both went upstairs. Heaven’s room was now filled with baby items, so she would have to sleep beside Desmond. She lay down carefully at the edge of the bed, hesitant to get too close.
“Are you scared of me? Why won’t you lie beside me?” Desmond asked.
“I’m fine here. I just don’t want to take up your space,” Heaven replied. Desmond climbed onto the bed and gently pulled her closer, making her yelp in surprise.
“We’re married, Heaven. You’re my wife, so sleep beside me,” he said firmly. Heaven didn’t reply. Desmond reached for the manzanilla oil he had bought.
“What are you going to do?” she asked as he took her foot.
“I read online that pregnant women should have their feet massaged every night. From now on, I’ll do this for you every evening.”
Heaven just stared at him, her heart pounding fast. But every time she remembered that Desmond still loved Macie, she couldn’t help but feel a sting of pain in her chest.
