Chapter 23 Chapter 8.2
I'm always alone at home because Desmond still hasn't come home. It seems Macie is moving for good. Do I need to pack my things so I can quickly get them when he kicks me out? Do I need to wait for the divorce paper he'll give me before leaving?
I just sigh because I'm thinking about all sorts of things again. I looked at the papers I was holding that I would give to Ma'am Ruth. I was on my way back to the department when I saw a commotion.
"Didn't I tell you to fix what I asked you to do?!" That was Desmond's voice; I couldn't be mistaken. I quickly approached them. A male employee was looking down while the scattered papers were on the floor.
"What's wrong, sir, with what I did? This is my fifth revision." The man asked respectfully, but Desmond got even angrier. He was about to punch his employee when I quickly approached him and hugged him.
"Stop it! Enough! What's your problem to hurt and shout at your employees?" I couldn't help but interfere with them. Doesn't he think he could be imprisoned for what he's about to do? Desmond's eyes were glaring at me.
"Don't interfere here." He said with emphasis. His eyes were red with intense anger. I felt like he wasn't angry at his employee, it seemed like there was another reason. He just took out the anger he was feeling on the employee. I shook my head at him and then held his hand.
"Stop it, I know he didn't do anything wrong. You're just mad. Don't take out your anger on others because you're mad at someone else. “Don’t wait until you end up hurting your employees.” I pleaded with him calmly. Tears were welling up in his eyes, and his employees couldn't see that. They couldn't see the weakness of Desmond.
I pulled Desmond out of our department and dragged him to his office. I told Jake not to let anyone in so that no one else would be victimized by Desmond's anger.
"When you're mad, don't force yourself to work, don't talk to your employees so you don't scold them. Do you want to hurt your employee? Do you want to have a criminal record just because you hurt an employee? Why do you need to rage in our department?" He faced me. His eyes were still red. What happened to him? Where's Macie? Desmond was okay these past few days. Did he and Macie fight?
"Don't come near me next time, Heaven. You don't know me when I get angry. Don't let me do anything to you and your future child. My vision goes dark when my anger is intense. Don't come near me because the moment I hurt you, I won't be responsible." He said blankly and coldly to me. It's good that I was able to calm you down earlier.
"What you did earlier wasn't right. You scared your employees. I know Sir Raymond is good, why did you say that? You know he'll be hurt."
"Why are you interfering?!" he also shouted at me. Desmond rubbed his face annoyedly and then pointed at me. " Don’t show off next time, don't stop me, and above all don't hug me in front of many people!" I just looked at him blankly. Maybe if I wasn't pregnant, I would have cried because of his hurtful words, but my child strengthened my heart since he was formed in my womb.
"Who are you, Heaven?! Because you know I can't hurt you, you're already abusing that? Don't interfere next time because the moment you do what you did earlier, I'll slap you." He threatened and then left. I just sighed. What really happened to him? Why is he so angry? Until now, he still hasn't come home, so I know he's still with Macie.
He's hard to read.
I went back to our department. They were all quiet and seemed to still be traumatized by Desmond's anger. I looked for Sir Raymond. He's one of the best in the company because he's received the employee of the month award several times.
“Heaven,” someone called me from behind, so I faced it.
“Sir Raymond,” I uttered and then approached him. He smiled at me. “Are you okay?” I asked worriedly.
“I'm fine, don't worry about me. Thank you for defending me earlier. I don't know what I would have done if Sir Desmond had punched me. I was also just holding back my anger earlier while he was scolding me. It's good that you stopped him because otherwise, we might have punched each other.”
“It's nothing, sir, just forgive Sir Desmond. He's just angry, not because there's something wrong with what you did.” Sir Raymond just smiled at me.
“I don't know what your relationship is with Sir Desmond for you to have the courage to hug and calm him down, but thank you. I was scared of what you did earlier. What if he suddenly slapped you? He once slapped a female employee in anger. Don't do that again next time, you're lucky he listened to you.” I just nodded at him.
We went back to our working stations and did our jobs. I don't know if Desmond has returned to his office.
I went straight home, but when I entered, I saw Desmond sitting on the sofa. The bottles of alcohol were scattered again on the table and on the floor. If he stands up and steps on a bottle, he'll surely fall. I looked at him, he seemed to be asleep because of the amount of alcohol he drank.
I put down my bag and then picked up the bottles one by one. I put them in the kitchen to avoid accidents when he stands up. I didn't make any noise so I wouldn't wake him up. I also cleaned the table because some alcohol had spilled. I looked at Desmond in shock when he held my hand.
“Heaven,” he uttered my name. I let go of what I was holding to help him stand up.
“Aahh!” I shouted when he pulled me. I fell on his legs, so I quickly got up. It was evident in his eyes that he had cried. What really happened?
“What's happening to you?” I asked him. Desmond caressed my cheek.
“Please, make me forget, Heaven. Make me forget her.”
