Chapter 113 Chapter 38.2
Chapter 113 Chapter 38.2
THIRD PERSON POV
Shiermy no longer knew how she should face her son. They never expected Desmond to visit his in-laws' house and see Daryl there.
Desmond let out a dry laugh, as if he was about to lose his mind from everything running through his head. How was it possible that his and Heaven's son was still alive when they had been told he died at the hospital?
“How could you hide all of this from me, Mom, Dad?” he asked softly, but the pain in his voice was unmistakable.
“Son, just wait. Let's go home first, then we'll talk there,” Shiermy answered. “Anica, take Daryl first.” Shiermy handed Daryl to Anica before pulling Desmond outside the house.
“Maybe we'll have dinner here another time. We'll just leave the food we brought. I'm sorry, everyone,” Romulo apologized before following his wife and son.
“We'll talk at home,” Shiermy said before helping her son into the car. Romulo got into the driver's seat, then they headed toward their house. Desmond massaged his temples. He couldn't get Daryl's face out of his mind. He didn't even know his son, yet deep inside, he could feel that Daryl was his. It couldn't just be a coincidence that the little boy had the same name as his son.
“When did you find out that Daryl was alive?” Desmond asked calmly. He was happy to know that his son was alive, but he also felt as though everyone had been playing with him.
“I'll answer all your questions once we get home, son.”
“I want to know the truth now! How is Daryl alive? You knew he died at the hospital, didn't you, Mom? You were there when the doctors told us that Heaven and I had lost our son! Damn it, are you all playing with me? What else are you hiding from me? You hid Heaven from me, and now I find out that my son is alive, and you hid him from me too?!”
“Desmond, enough! Your mom already told you we'll answer all your questions once we get home! Don't raise your voice at your mother because she's still your mother. You should respect her!” Romulo shouted angrily at his son.
“Bullshit!” Desmond yelled as he ran his fingers through his hair before rubbing his face. “You want me to respect you? When you don't even respect me? Why are you doing this to me? I'm your son, so why are you doing this? Why did you hide the truth from me?!” Desmond shouted angrily. For the past two years, he had blamed himself every single day for what happened to Heaven and their son.
Every day, he carried the guilt and the weight in his heart. How could they hide the truth about their son from him?
Desmond couldn't stop himself from crying during the drive. Shiermy felt guilty and heartbroken for her son, but she didn't want to go against Heaven's decision. They had always known that the day would come when Desmond would learn the truth, but they never imagined he would be this furious with them.
Romulo stepped on the gas, driving faster so they could get home as soon as possible. After almost an hour, they finally arrived. Romulo and Shiermy got out of the car together while Desmond stayed behind for a moment, trying to calm himself.
Desmond followed his parents into the living room.
“Now, answer me. When did you find out Daryl was alive? He's Daryl, right? He's Heaven's and my son?” he asked calmly. Shiermy could only let out another heavy sigh.
“Yes, he is. He's your and Heaven's son, Daryl. Son, we never planned to keep him from you forever—”
“If that's the case, when were you planning to tell me the truth? When did you find out that my son was alive?!” No matter how hard Desmond tried to stay calm, he couldn't stop himself from feeling hurt.
Why hadn't Heaven told him anything either? They had been together for days, they had even slept at his penthouse, but she hadn't said a single word about Daryl.
“Was it Heaven who told you not to tell me?” he asked.
“No, son. The truth is, I hid the fact that your son was alive from Heaven too.” Desmond's brows furrowed in confusion. Heaven didn't know their son was alive either? “Daryl was already in the morgue when he suddenly cried again. They rushed him to the NICU so the doctors could give him the treatment he needed. I found out right away that he was alive, but Heaven didn't know. If I remember correctly, I kept it from Heaven for more than a month. I chose to hide it because there was no guarantee that he would survive. Daryl had a heart condition and needed surgery. I didn't want to tell Heaven the truth because I was afraid Daryl wouldn't make it. Heaven was already devastated by the loss of your son. She had just given birth, and I was terrified that something might happen to her because of the stress. You have no idea how terrifying every single day was while Daryl was in the NICU. We could have lost him at any moment, and I couldn't bear to watch Heaven suffer a second time, so I carried all of Daryl's struggles by myself. I was only forced to tell Heaven the truth when she decided she wanted to leave.” Shiermy explained at length. Desmond continued listening with a deep frown. Even Shiermy couldn't stop herself from crying every time she remembered those days.
“Heaven broke up with you back then, and she asked me not to tell you that your son was alive. Yes, you're my son, but I didn't want to go against Heaven's wishes by telling you about Daryl. If your relationship with Heaven is already okay now, then I believe she was planning to tell you about Daryl herself.”
“Damn it,” Desmond muttered as tears finally streamed down his face. His emotions were all over the place, but above everything else, he was angry at his parents for keeping such a huge secret from him. He could understand if Heaven wanted to leave with their son, but he could never understand why they made him believe that his child had died.
Every single day, he mourned a son who had never actually died.
Desmond drew a deep breath, trying to steady himself.
“Son, I hope you can understand Heaven if she chose to hide your son from you,” Shiermy said once again.
“Why did you let me mourn our son? I understand that you pitied my wife, but what about me? Didn't you pity me too? I never hurt Heaven, I never cheated on her. I told you that back then. I searched for my wife because I wanted to fix our relationship, but what did you do, Mom? You stopped the detectives I hired from looking for my wife. Couldn't you see that I was hurting too? I mourned our son when I thought he died!”
