Chapter 112 Chapter 38.1
Chapter 112 Chapter 38.1
THIRD PERSON POV
Desmond went to Heaven's parents' house. He wanted to ask for their help with the surprise he was planning for Heaven. They had a date this Saturday, and now that they had finally fixed their relationship, he wanted to properly ask for Heaven's hand. Even though they were still legally married, he wanted to marry Heaven all over again and give her the beautiful and happy wedding she deserved.
“Desmond, son,” Salem said in surprise when she saw him standing outside their gate.
“Good evening, Mom,” he greeted her politely.
“Come in,” Salem said. Desmond walked inside, and they headed to the living room. “I'm glad you came to visit. Do you need something? Is there anything you want to tell us? How have you been?” Salem asked one question after another. Every time Desmond visited them, they never really knew what to say to him.
“I’m perfectly fine, Mom. How's Dad doing?”
“He's doing well. He's already back at work. Have a seat first, I'll go call your father.” Desmond sat down on the sofa while Salem went into one of the rooms.
Back then, Desmond had never formally asked for Heaven's hand. He had simply married her because it was what his parents wanted and because they wanted him to take responsibility for their unborn child. A faint smile appeared on his lips as he remembered their child once again. If only the baby had survived, their child would already be two years old by now.
“Oh, son, you came to visit?” Desmond immediately stood up when Michael, Heaven's father, arrived. He bowed his head slightly out of respect to his father-in-law.
“Good evening, Dad. How are you? Are you feeling much better now?” Desmond asked politely. Michael smiled before taking a seat. Desmond sat down as well.
“Don't worry about me. I'm already feeling fine, and I'm back to work. What brings you here today, son?”
Every time Desmond visited them before, he would beg them to tell him where Heaven was hiding, but he always went home heartbroken because no matter how much he pleaded, Heaven's parents never told him where she was.
“I came here because I wanted to talk to both you and Mom. If Heaven hasn't told you yet, we've decided to fix our relationship. I wanted to properly ask for Heaven's hand from both of you. I want to marry her again for the second time. You already know that neither of us was happy during our first wedding, so I want to marry her again, not because it's what you or anyone else wanted for us, but because it's what the two of us truly want. We're going on a date this Saturday, and that's also the day I'm planning to propose to her,” Desmond said honestly. The married couple exchanged glances.
They no longer knew much about their eldest daughter's life, so they had no idea that she and Desmond had already reconciled.
“So you've talked to Heaven again?” Salem asked. She was genuinely happy for Desmond because she knew how deeply he loved her daughter.
“Yes, Mom. We've decided to fix our relationship. Heaven is the only woman I want to marry, Mom, Dad. She's the only one I want to spend the rest of my life with. Our first marriage wasn't a happy one, but I'll do everything I can to make things right this time. I'll make her happy and love her for the rest of my life. I know both of you were deeply hurt when I hurt Heaven before, that's why I wanted to personally ask for your blessing. If you're willing to entrust her to me once again,” Desmond pleaded sincerely and seriously.
The couple smiled once again.
“If you and Heaven have already talked and she's agreed to fix your relationship, then we have no right to stop you. We've seen how much you love our daughter, Desmond. I'll entrust my daughter to you for the second time, but the moment you hurt her again because of your actions, even if you kneel on salt and cry tears of blood, I will never give her back to you again. I hope we understand each other, son,” Michael said seriously. Desmond smiled before bowing his head.
“Please don't worry, Mom, Dad. I'll love Heaven for the rest of my life and give her everything she needs. I'll do everything I can to make her happy. I won't disappoint you,” Desmond answered happily.
“Mom, Dad! We're here! Jessica and Daryl are with us too.” Desmond immediately turned toward the door when Heaven's siblings arrived. They entered one after another, while Anica was carrying Daryl in her arms.
Desmond slowly stood up, his eyes fixed on Daryl. Salem and Michael also looked at their children. The couple exchanged another glance as they realized that Desmond still didn't know Daryl was alive.
“Desmond, you're here,” Anica said in surprise when she saw him. Desmond didn't answer. He simply stared at Daryl.
“What's his name again?” Desmond asked Anica. She immediately looked at her parents as though silently asking them for help.
Desmond walked over to Anica and looked at Daryl. Daryl looked back at him and smiled. He wasn't even afraid of Desmond, even though he usually cried whenever he saw an unfamiliar face.
Desmond then looked at Jessica. He remembered her. She was the woman he had seen in Germany, the one who had been taking care of Daryl.
“You're the babysitter? What are you doing here? Weren't you in Germany?” Desmond asked. He was becoming more confused by everything that was happening. Jessica had no idea what was going on because she didn't know that Desmond was Daryl's father.
“Desmond, son—”
“I want to know whose child he is,” Desmond asked seriously as he looked at his in-laws.
“There are some things that shouldn't come from us, son,” Michael replied quietly.
“His name is Daryl, isn't it?” Desmond asked Anica. She didn't answer, only avoiding his gaze. “You all know that Daryl was the name Heaven and I chose for our child. Is he my son?” he asked directly. His heart was pounding violently. He couldn't even understand what he was feeling anymore, anger, happiness, or sorrow.
“Good evening, we're here, everyone.” The room fell completely silent. Desmond turned toward the entrance as his parents had just arrived at his in-laws' house.
“Where's my grandson?” Romulo asked cheerfully. Neither of them had noticed their son yet.
The moment Shiermy saw Desmond, her eyes widened as though she had seen a ghost.
“Grandma!” Daryl shouted the moment he heard his grandmother's voice. He climbed down from Anica's arms and ran straight toward Shiermy and Romulo. Desmond let out a hollow laugh. It felt as though his head was about to explode. He couldn't process everything that was happening.
“You all knew my son was alive?” Desmond asked his parents, his voice serious and filled with restrained emotion.
