Zac’s POV
I felt my world collapse in an instant as my body fell to the floor. Warm red liquid flowed from several parts of my body that were perforated by bullets, and the red liquid hit my hands.
My body felt painful and hot. My consciousness was getting less. I leaned my body partially against the wall. With a gasp, I looked around the room while smiling and imagining the old days when all my men and I were partying.
We joked around while talking about our past, when we were still fighting together to complete every mission and received pay ranging from small amounts to huge amounts.
We were just a group of orphans from a village. We grew up together and had the same dream of a better and happier life, even though our families had abandoned us as babies.
Since then, we have helped each other and worked together. Until one day, the opportunity to run this business came to me and I recruited them. Within a few years, we had everything we wanted. It wasn’t until the bullet pierced my body that I realized that everything I’d achieved and had been ultimately for naught.
To be honest, our original dream was not to run this illegal business. We were just like any other young people who wanted to live a good life, have a good job, and raise a happy family. But when fate gave us a choice, we chose the wrong choice and continued to live it without feeling guilty. Maybe it was time for us to end it all and make amends for all our past mistakes, no matter how many sins we had committed.
I had difficulty breathing. The heat and pain spread throughout my body and blood rushed out of my body. The large amount of hot lead lodged in several vital points of my body caused me to fall on the floor and not be able to fight back anymore.
It was time for me to give up.
Both my hands were full of blood. Several police officers stood guard around me and one of them called an ambulance, presumably to take me to the hospital. However, I was pessimistic about surviving. The pain was already unbearable. Let me bear this pain alone. At least Megan could leave with our child.
Megan and my unborn child. Forgive me and live happily.
I couldn’t open my eyes anymore. My body had no strength and my breathing was very heavy. I was sure the Grim Reaper was probably waiting for me at the door. I was scared, but what could I do?
I vaguely heard the voices of some police officers trying to suppress the bleeding in some parts of my body. Then, I felt my body being lifted and laid down on something and I heard the ambulance siren sounding. And from the side, I heard a nurse trying to keep me awake, but I felt so tired.
Finally, I saw a tunnel, and Megan was standing there. She waved her hand at me and I smiled and waved back. I ran as fast as I could to catch up with her.
She kept walking as if asking me to run faster to catch up with her until I finally caught her hand and hugged her body. In my arms, she said, “Let’s hurry into the tunnel.”
“Let’s go. I’m glad we finally met,” I replied. Then we walked into the tunnel together.
Goodbye world. I wanted to enjoy my world with Megan and our unborn child.
Piper’s POV
It had been several days of heavy rain and strong winds in Valdirra. Like the nights before, Jay, the kids, and I lay together in my bedroom. We held each other while listening to the sound of the rain from the window beside our bed. It felt quite nice and peaceful.
This happiness and togetherness are irreplaceable and I hope all those terrible memories won’t come back to us again forever, even though we didn’t know how the kidnappers were doing and how their investigation was going. One thing is for sure, we will be more careful and believe that the police will catch them as soon as possible.
Suddenly, we were startled by the sound of Jay’s cell phone ringing. Jay rushed to pick up his cell phone, which was on the nightstand. At that moment, the kids were lying down and staring out the window while I was reading a book.
“Yes, Tom. What’s going on?” Jay asked.
I couldn’t hear what Tom was saying on the phone, but from the look on his face, I could tell Jay had heard some shocking news.
“Really? Didn’t I hear wrong?” he asked. Then he looked at me. I returned his gaze with a look of questioning and confusion on my face.
What was going on? Did we hear good news or bad news?
“OK, I’ll be there tomorrow morning. Good night,” Jay said, and then he put his phone back on the nightstand.
“What’s up, Jay?” I asked.
“Let’s talk outside,” he said as he stood up.
Before we left the room, Jay told the twins to wait for us in the room. They nodded and said they were going to bed early.
Jay and I went down to the first floor. I sat at the dining table while Jay went into the kitchen and got drinks for both of us.
“Jay, what’s going on? You’ve got me curious,” I asked. I gripped the glass of tea.
“Um, the tea is great. Drink it first,” he said.
After finishing all the tea, I asked again, “What’s wrong?”
“They took Zac and his men down. Megan escaped and now the police are still looking for her,” Jay replied.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Zac and his men died on the spot while trying to trap and fight the police. I honestly felt sorry for him when I heard the news. Where do you think Megan is? Her mom and dad are in prison. Helen doesn’t want to see her again after everything she’s done. The police have seized the apartment in her name. I wonder where she’s going and also she’s pregnant,” Jay asked. His brow furrowed. He was thinking hard.
“I don’t know. I feel sorry for her. She’s somewhere right now. Let’s hope the police can find her soon,” I replied.
Megan’s POV
After the interrogation process was completed, the police officers were originally going to take us to a rehabilitation center, but one woman asked them to drop us off at a place I didn’t know, citing various reasons. Although they refused, the police officers finally agreed to drop us all off at the place in question.
The place in question was a bar and a brothel in the same area.
Shit!
Just as I was about to get back into the police car, a hand held me back and said, “Where are you going, sweetie?”
