Jansen’s POV
Moments later, they stopped talking after hearing someone knock on the door so loudly that I could hear their voices.
Could it be that the person they called ‘Boss’ had come? I was curious about his figure. Ah, maybe I could see his figure from behind the window if I was lucky.
I hurriedly approached the large window located right beside our bed. I lifted the thick curtains that covered the entire window. To be honest, the interior of this house wasn’t modern, it seemed a little old-fashioned, even the curtains were a little heavy.
When I pulled the thick curtains aside, my eyes widened, and my heart skipped a beat. How could I not? My eyes met his. They were dark brown and mysterious. His gaze was sharp, like a lion watching its prey. His lips were dark with a firm jawline. The man was handsome, though creepy. The aura in him made me shudder with fear. He was no ordinary man. Jessie and I had to be careful.
The longer I looked into his eyes, the more my body trembled. I’d better hurry, close the curtains and hide under the covers before they came in here and checked on us.
I spontaneously closed the curtains and climbed onto the bed. I pulled the blanket up to cover my body and face. I’d better get some sleep so that when they checked on us, I’d already be asleep.
The next morning, I woke up when Jessie woke me up. She whispered in my ear, “Jansen, let’s get up. They’re asking us to come down.”
Jessie kept saying the same sentence until I finally opened my eyes, even though I had to. I was still sleepy because I couldn’t close my eyes last night and my mind kept working on guessing various possibilities. Luckily, the mysterious man and his men didn’t come in here.
“Jansen, I’ll take a shower now. After that, it’s your turn. They came in here earlier to give us clothes and asked us to come down quickly after taking a shower,” Jessie said as she got out of bed and straightened her pillow and blanket.
I heard what Jessie said to me, even though I didn’t answer her. My mind was still working extra hard trying to digest what was their purpose. And who was that mysterious man?
I was still sitting on the bed when Jessie came out of the bathroom. She let out a long breath as she looked at me in surprise.
“Jansen, are you okay? You didn’t answer my question and just sat quietly on the bed. What happened to you? You better hurry,” she pleaded as she pulled my hand off the bed.
“Don’t pull my hand. Alright, I’ll take a shower now and go downstairs with you,” I replied.
“You’ve been behaving strangely since you woke up. What exactly happened?” Jessie asked curiously.
I approached Jessie, grabbed and held her hand. “Jessie, Aunty Megan is the one who kidnapped us. She didn’t work alone, but a mysterious man helped her. Last night when you were asleep, I saw him. We looked at each other. I shuddered with fear when I saw him. We must be careful. Obey me and do nothing that could harm both of us. Understood?” I asked. Jessie nodded twice.
“Okay. I’ll obey you. I hope we can find our way out of here and back to Valdirra soon. I miss Mom and Dad. How is it, Jansen?” she asked, crying.
I hugged her as I tried to calm her down. “Don’t be afraid. I promise you I will find a way out of here as soon as possible. Trust me.”
“I trust you,” Jessie replied.
After that, I went to take a shower, then both of us went down to the first floor. The fragrance of the food cooked by the young lady named Rose tantalized our noses and stomachs.
“You’re finally downstairs. Let’s have breakfast,” Rose invited us with a friendly smile.
We welcomed her smile. Rose helped us sit down and got our food. As we were eating happily, suddenly a mysterious man whose name we didn’t know came. He pulled out a chair and sat in front of us. Jessie looked at the man casually, while I averted my eyes by staring at the food on the plate.
“Beautiful children. Unfortunately, you are now in my hands,” the mysterious man said.
Even his voice was frightening. Who was he? What was his name?
He ate quickly, then called Kelly. As Kelly approached, without a whisper, he said, “Take the young lady to my room. Ask her to take a clean bath and wear the clothes I gave her last night.”
“Ok, sir,” Kelly replied.
Then Kelly went into the kitchen. A few minutes later, Kelly and Rose came out of the kitchen and walked toward the back porch. As Jessie and I finished our breakfast, Rose came into the house, covering her body with a long coat. Her hair was wet and the scent of the soap she was using wafted up to where we were sitting.
We were sitting on the stairs reading a book we found on the bookshelf. Tia kept watching us without taking her eyes off us.
Rose went into the same room where the man had entered. However, before entering, Kelly knocked on the door first. “Boss, can Rose come in?”
“Come in,” the mysterious man replied. However, I saw Rose’s face looked scared and nervous. What was going on?
After Rose came in, Tia took us up to the second floor. She asked us to stay in the room until lunchtime. And for the second time, we heard Kelly tell Tia that Aunty Megan would arrive on the island soon. I guessed once she arrived, I will solve all these mysteries.
Jay Lee’s POV
“Nick, how did your investigation go?” I asked. Me, Nick, and Ken were meeting in my office almost every night. After the kidnapping incident, I asked Nick to stay at my house so that we could discuss things more freely.
That night, Piper went to bed early. After coming home from the hospital, she was physically better, but mentally she was not. The kidnapping incident left her with a deep sadness that made her wake up in the middle of the night and cry while blaming herself.
I was sad and helpless to see her hurt like that. I repeatedly reminded her that there was our child in her belly that she had to take care of. However, the sadness and loss were so deep and weighed heavily on her mind and feelings. All I could do now was to do everything I could to find the twins and care for and comfort Piper.
“I got some leads, sir. From the CCTV cameras located around the school, convenience store, and highway, I saw two white sedans driving together right after Jansen and Jessie got into one car. They were driving towards the docks north of Valdirra. However, there is something strange,” Nick replied.
“What do you mean?” I asked curiously.
