Piper’s POV
I couldn’t help myself anymore and I thought I’d better check on Megan. I grabbed my cell phone from the nightstand and dialed Megan’s number. It rang a few times.
“Come on, pick up the phone,” I muttered.
How annoying! She wasn’t picking up. I’d better try again. It rang a few times like before. And finally, she picked up my incoming call. I heard her clear her throat twice before answering.
“Hello, Megan. Haven’t spoken to you in a while. How are you?” I greeted.
“Hi, Piper. I’m fine and well. Thanks for asking. Oh, congratulations on your pregnancy. I hope you and your baby are doing well,” she replied. There was the faint sound of someone whispering next to her and the sound of waves. Was Megan not in her apartment?
“Thank you. Am I disturbing you? You don’t seem to be in the room?” I asked curiously.
That’s right, it’s the sound of waves crashing and a strong wind blowing. Megan was not indoors. She was by the sea or on a boat. Maybe she was on vacation.
“You’re not disturbing me at all. Yes, I’m on vacation with my friend. We’re on the beach. Your hearing is quite great,” she replied.
“The sound of the waves is loud. I guess I’d better get to the point. The twins disappeared from school. Someone or some group of people kidnapped them. What I want to ask you is did you involve in this? If you did, I’ll make sure you’re within the cold, dirty walls of a prison. I won’t stay silent this time. The twins are my life and I won’t let anyone hurt them or hurt my family. You better be honest before I find the mastermind behind this kidnapping. If the original target was me, why did they have to be the victims?” I said in a long sentence.
However, Megan’s reaction was not what I expected. She laughed loudly and clucked a few times. “Hahaha, you never change, Piper. Why would I hurt the twins? Or hurt you? I have nothing to do with you and Jay anymore. Now I have a new life with my new husband-to-be. I’m happy and wealthy with no alimony from grandma or her money. My future husband has more money than you can imagine. So, I have no reason to do any of that. Do you understand? Whether you believe me is none of my business. Do you have questions?”
“No, I don’t. I just want to make sure because I won’t forgive anyone who dares to hurt my children or my family. I am not a weak Piper anymore. If you know nothing and weren’t involved, I’m quite happy to hear that,” I retorted.
“I’ve changed now. I just want to live a new and peaceful life. In the next few months, I’ll be having a baby shower. I’m pregnant and I’m also going to be a mom. So, there’s no way I’m going to hurt your children. Do you understand now?” she asked.
Her voice sounded soft. It wasn’t a voice I usually heard from Megan. She might have changed, but could it be that fast? Could she have turned into a better person?
She had always been jealous of me and will do a lot of things just to give me a bad image in front of grandma and everyone else. But I never hated or tried to hurt her. I forgave her several times and kept trying to be a good cousin to her until finally, on that night eight years ago, she betrayed my trust and destroyed the relationship we had built up over the years.
On the one hand, I wanted to trust her, but on the other, I was afraid to. Perhaps it was best to monitor her movements and find out the mastermind behind the kidnapping of the twins.
“Yes, I understand. If you have any information regarding the twins, please let me know. Thank you and good night,” I replied. I hung up and put my phone back on the nightstand.
From behind, Jay hugged me. “I didn’t realize you had changed. I like your change. One more thing, we’ll find the twins. They’re smart kids.”
Tears fell on my face. Jay noticed when I wiped my eyes and my body trembled from holding back tears.
“Don’t cry anymore. We’ll face this together. I won’t leave you and never leave me. I promise to bring the twins home as soon as possible,” Jay said.
I looked back and looked at him with puffy and red eyes. “Thank you. I wouldn’t have gotten through this without you.”
“I know. Don’t cry anymore or your eyes will be puffy tomorrow. Let’s go to sleep,” he invited.
That night, we lay together on a fairly narrow bed. It was warm and quite pleasant. I love him more every day and he is the most beautiful gift God has given me.
Jansen’s POV
Around midnight, I woke up to the sound of several people whispering at my door. Who were they?
Before getting out of bed, I saw Jessie was fast asleep. She must be exhausted.
I tried to confirm the shadows that were usually under the door. Yes, I saw some shadows. Maybe I should check and try to eavesdrop on their conversation. Who knows, I might find a way out.
I got out of bed quietly, trying my best not to make any noise until I finally reached the door. I leaned down, trying to peek through the hole under the door, and succeeded.
I saw Kelly and her two friends and the young woman who had cooked for us earlier standing near to my room. The look on their faces were different.
“When will the boss get here? Is he coming with his girlfriend?” Andy asked.
“Boss is on his way here. He’s coming with his two assistants. I heard his girlfriend will follow soon,” Kelly replied.
“What’s her name? I heard she’s pregnant, and the boss is thrilled. But the baby might not be our boss’s. What do you think?” Tia asked.
“Megan. Her name is Megan. I think it’s true that the child Mrs. Megan is carrying is our boss. I’m sure Mrs. Megan wouldn’t dare to do anything wrong,” Kelly replied.
“I hope it’s true. I don’t know why I never liked Mrs. Megan,” Tia said.
“Hahaha, the love rivalry between women is terrible,” Andy said with a big smile. Kelly laughed along with Andy.
Wh-what? So Aunty Megan was the mastermind behind all this. Aunty and Tia both liked a man they called ‘Boss’. Looked like someone else was involved in this.
