Chapter 102: Did You Sell Yourself?
Eliana's heart trembled as she distinctly felt a sharp object on her face; it was a threat.
In the silence between them, their slightly hurried breaths were almost audible.
In a flash, the man's hand encircled her waist. Eliana's brow furrowed slightly, and she lifted her foot to stomp on the man's leather shoe with her high heel.
He grunted softly and released his hold on her.
"Jeremy, what do you think you're doing?" Eliana turned her head and, as expected, saw Jeremy's sinister face.
Caught, Jeremy gave up the act, "You still remember my scent; it seems you haven't forgotten me after all."
"The smell of body odor is indeed hard to forget," Eliana retorted sharply.
Jeremy knew she was deliberately mocking him, and his face grew even darker, "Where did you go with Mr. Wilkinson just now?"
"None of your business," she thought, why should I tell you? What does it have to do with you?
Jeremy's expression turned even gloomier, as if he'd been betrayed, his eyes full of anger. Eliana snorted coldly, "I really didn't see you as a leech."
"Eliana!" Jeremy said furiously.
"Isn't it true? You were the one who suggested the breakup, the one who betrayed our relationship first. What are you doing acting like a victim in front of me?"
Jeremy sneered, "Let me guess, you two were gone for a few hours. It must have been for some dirty business. No wonder he gave you the multi-million-dollar project. Did you sell yourself?"
Slap!
The slap was crisp and clear.
Eliana had never suffered such slander, "If you can't speak properly, I can teach you. Get lost."
She turned to get in the car, but Jeremy, undeterred, chased after her, pressing her against the car door, almost roaring, "How much did Mr. Wilkinson give you? I'll give you double. Not enough? I'll give you triple!"
Slap slap slap!
Eliana slapped him several times in a row, "Are you sober now?"
Jeremy's face was covered in the marks of her slaps, each one hitting his skin like a steel needle.
"Jeremy, there's no 'us' in this life, and who I'm with has nothing to do with you."
Eliana remembered the techniques Chase had taught her that night and kicked Jeremy down before quickly getting in the car and driving away.
Only after the car had driven away did Eliana let out a sigh of relief.
She immediately dialed Chase's number, "Are you still working overtime?"
Chase's voice came from the other end of the line, a bit hoarse, "Yes."
For some reason, Eliana felt very safe hearing Chase's voice, "Have you eaten?"
"Not yet. Why do you sound a bit nervous?"
Eliana had thought more than once that Chase could be a detective instead of a security guard.
She quietly adjusted her breathing before speaking again, "I'll buy some food and come to you, we'll talk when we meet."
"Okay."
Eliana hung up and went to buy late-night snacks.
She said she would buy a little, but when she appeared in front of Chase, she was carrying snacks in both hands.
Chase had just finished handling things and was sweating all over, looking like he had really been working hard.
He casually found a place to sit with Eliana, opened the takeout boxes, which contained various snacks.
Chase hummed lightly, "The concert doesn't start until tomorrow. If you want to make some extra money, wait until tomorrow."
Eliana was slightly stunned, then realized the implication of his words, "I bought it for you to eat, you don't appreciate my nice gesture?"
"Fine. Thanks."
Chase picked up the burger and began to eat without hesitation. He had a good appetite because it was inconvenient to eat with a mask when he had dinner with his grandfather.
Eliana ate some chips; she had eaten a lot earlier and wasn't hungry yet.
She propped her chin up and watched Chase eat with appreciation. He was wearing a casual sports suit with a vest that exposed his strong arms. Under the light, she could clearly see the strong muscles on his arms.
Chase suddenly noticed her gaze, turned his head and asked a question that stunned her, "Did you meet Jeremy just now?"
"How did you know?" Eliana was surprised.
Chase's eyes suddenly darkened, perhaps due to the lighting, "Because you have his perfume on you, it's unpleasant."
It might have been accidentally rubbed on during the scuffle. Eliana recounted the events with a lazy tone.
"You said I was a novice, but I knocked him down in two moves," she said confidently.
Chase's eyes grew colder and colder, sending out a dangerous signal.
Jeremy dared to touch Eliana? It was nothing but courting death!
After they finished eating, they sat on the chairs to rest. It was an open-air stadium, where they could see the stars by looking up, and people were busy setting up lights on the stage.
This seemed to be the first time they had met outside properly. Compared to the last time they bumped into each other in the park, this time they felt much more comfortable.
After chatting for a while, Chase saw that the wind was strong and Eliana was wearing a thin dress. He was worried that she might catch a cold.
"You go back first, don't wait for me, I still need a while to finish."
Eliana wanted to say that she had nothing to do when she went back and could wait, but she didn't dare to speak, for fear that Chase would laugh at her for deliberately wanting to stay and cling to him.
She didn't want to appear desperate. Of course, she couldn't say that she wanted to stay, but she didn't want to leave, "I..."
Then, miraculously, Chase actually asked her if she wanted to stay, "If you're not busy, wait for me for half an hour."
"Okay... I mean, I happen to be free and can wait for you." Eliana said modestly.
Chase nodded at her, then got up and gathered people to continue discussing.
After analyzing the situation, he had all the bodyguards perform the drill. Everyone responded, then ran off in small groups.
"What's going on with Mr. Wilkinson, is he really asking us to be security?" One of the bodyguards asked.
Those men were elite bodyguards. Wouldn't it be a bit of an overkill for them to come to the concert as security guards?
Simon knocked on his head, "Play the role, cooperate with Mr. Wilkinson. If something happens, you can't afford to pay the price."
The person who was scolded immediately shut up and ran out with the team.
Eliana sat in the audience, watching Chase's command, feeling that his figure was very handsome. No matter from which angle she looked at him, he seemed more eye-catching than a star.
She now understood why some people are willing to spend so much money to watch idols. If Chase performed on the stage, she was also willing to spend some big bucks.
After some time, when Chase came to find her, Eliana fell asleep on the seat.
He looked at the woman's beautiful face, the breeze blowing, raising her hair. She slept so soundly.
And Chase thought to himself, silly girl, can't you go back if you're sleepy?
