Chapter 60 – The Perfect Deal

Chapter 60 – The Perfect Deal
"What a repulsive woman! I don't know how a woman like that managed to win you over, along with so many other men."

Silvia remarked.

"You'd have to be an absolute idiot to fall for a woman like that."

Silvia said, indignant.

"My dear, if you can win someone over, so can she," Romeu jabbed.

"Go to hell, Romeu! You talk about me like that now, but you never complained before."

"I hate to interrupt this lovely conversation, but we need to hurry," Dom Aragão warned.

"We need to. Just me and Romeu, Dad. You're not coming with us," Silvia stated.

"Of course I'm coming," he insisted.

"No, you're not. You're the one most to blame for this whole situation," said Romeu.

"Exactly, that's precisely why I need to go rescue my daughter."

"Oh, sure, of course. Your only daughter," Silvia remarked, irritated.

"Oh, please, please, Silvia, this is the worst possible moment for a jealousy meltdown."

"Oh right, of course not, sorry, I think it's better if you go. That way we can make a trade: hand you over to the kidnappers and get Mikaela back — the perfect deal."

Romeu was furious after learning the truth about the attack made on him.

He'd always suspected it had been ordered by Dom Aragão, but he'd never been sure, and Dom Aragão always denied it, even when confronted directly.

Now Silvia had just confirmed that her father had ordered him beaten.

How could someone be so cruel?

He knew Dom Aragão was a dangerous man, but he'd assumed he'd at least respect his friends' families, that there was some honor among them — but clearly not.

He hadn't respected the friendship he had with Romeu's father, and had ordered the attack, even knowing Romeu was involved with his daughter.

Maybe that had been exactly the reason — Mikaella. She was the source of so much hatred. Romeu had always been a womanizer, and Dom Aragão hadn't wanted him anywhere near his daughter.

Mikaella had suffered greatly at the hands of other men, and of course, as her father, he hadn't been pleased about their relationship — he had every reason to believe Romeu would make her suffer too. No father wants to see his children suffer.

Even though he'd initially been furious, Romeu understood Dom Aragão's reasons for pushing away some of Mikaella's suitors, even if he'd used the worst possible approach.

People who knew who Dom Aragão really was considered Romeu a brave man — after all, who would have the nerve to get close to both daughters, knowing their father was known as "Head-Ripper"?

Romeu really hadn't thought about that.

Nothing about his relationship with Mikaella had been planned; she was only supposed to be his assistant, nothing more.

He'd done everything he could to resist, and so had she.

But it was impossible not to fall for her — she was an extraordinary woman, full of qualities, charm, a breathtaking beauty she tried to downplay, and an enormous heart.

Romeu fell instantly in love.

And Dom Aragão hadn't been happy to make that discovery, finding him arm in arm with his daughter at dinner at the Petráglia mansion.

Even though he had every reason to hate Romeu, he couldn't attack him, being his friend's son.

How could he do that to someone standing by his daughter's side?

For twenty years, Dom Aragão had been his father's best friend, and now?

And now he'd done this to him.

Romeu knew that if his father found out the truth, he wouldn't let it slide.

After all, a legendary journalist could cause more destruction with a single story than with his fists, and what his father had to tell would destroy everyone's lives.
