Chapter 103 Awakening of Havoc
Selena’s lungs tightened as the fog thickened around her, each breath tasting like cold smoke. The voice wasn’t loud, but it carried a weight that pressed into her bones.
“This can’t be…” it said, drifting through the white haze like a warning wrapped in silk. “Your power is fully awakened. The havoc is about to begin.”
A chill crawled up Selena’s spine. She turned sharply, her hair whipping across her face. “What do you mean?” Her words trembled, barely pushed past the tightness in her throat. Her hands shook not from cold, but from the instinctive fear that something inside her was shifting, stretching, waking.
The fog split open like curtains being drawn aside.
Nature stepped through.
Her presence didn’t just light the space it reshaped it. Her skin glowed with a soft green luminescence, shadows bending away from her as if they recognized a higher force. Her long hair flowed around her without wind, strands moving like vines brushing against sunlight. Her eyes… those eyes held entire seasons. Spring’s tender green. Autumn’s sorrow. Winter’s silence. Summer’s fire.
One look from her made Selena feel small, like a child standing before the oldest truth in existence.
Nature touched her chest with a whisper of a sigh. “So this is why my strength has been slipping,” she murmured, the sadness in her tone sinking into the fog. “Child… your time has come to destroy the vampire realm. Your time has come, Hemilune blood.”
The ground beneath Selena’s feet felt unstable, shifting like sand. “Destroy?” She stumbled back, breath hitching. “I don’t please I don’t understand.” Her heartbeat thudded wildly, almost painful. “You… you’re scaring me.”
Nature’s smile bloomed slowly, like a flower opening in dim light beautiful, but sorrow-heavy. “Your power has grown beyond the earth itself. The prophecy awaits the one it has been calling.”
“What prophecy?” Selena whispered, her voice small, fragile. Fear and curiosity tangled inside her chest. “Please… just tell me.”
Mist curled around Nature’s legs, twining around her like loyal servants. She turned her gaze toward the fog, unable to meet Selena’s eyes for a moment. “I am not the one meant to reveal the truth. Half vampire, half human… your strength no longer falls under my command. You rise above my laws.” She stepped closer, the air warming in her wake. “But hear me if you bring devastation into this world, I will not shield you.”
Selena swallowed hard. “Spare me? From what?”
“Ask my brother,” Nature murmured. “Lucifer will answer what I cannot.” She reached forward and brushed her lips against Selena’s forehead.
Warmth poured into her gentle, soothing, a peace that seeped through her veins and settled deep inside her chest. It felt foreign… like borrowed serenity.
“I gave you strength,” Nature whispered. “I gave you calm, so you may survive what is coming. And I will help your friend, Lilith. I will return her memories. She is part of the sacrifice required for your path to unfold.”
Selena’s breath lodged in her throat. Her palms went clammy. “Sacrifice?” The mist around her seemed to tilt, the entire dreamscape spinning. “What sacrifice?”
“You will understand in time.”
“No wait!” Selena reached out, fingers slicing through the dissolving outline of Nature’s body. “Please! Don’t go! Tell me! Tell me!”
But the fog surged forward, swallowing Nature whole. The world folded in on itself light bending, sound collapsing
and Selena shot upright with a sharp gasp.
Her office ceiling glared down at her. Papers lay scattered across the desk like fallen leaves. Her pulse hammered against her ribs. Awareness crashed over her, raw and disorienting.
Around her, people stood frozen mid-motion, staring at her with the same expression she felt twisting inside her
Shock.
“Selena?”
Lilith’s voice was soft, careful, the kind someone used to wake a wounded animal. Her hand brushed Selena’s arm, warm and grounding. “Are you okay?”
Selena jerked her head toward her.
And there she was Lilith.
Her gentle brown eyes.
The tiny dimple in her left cheek when she frowned.
The way her brows pinched in concern like she always did when worried.
It crashed into Selena like a blow to the chest.
“You… recognize me?” The question tumbled out, barely more than a breath.
Lilith blinked, confused for a heartbeat then she laughed, bright and familiar, the sound curling around Selena like a memory she didn’t deserve. “Recognize you? Of course I do. What kind of question is that? You’re my best friend.”
Selena’s stomach twisted. Hard.
The words from her dream no, her warning slammed through her mind like a bell struck too violently:
She is part of the sacrifice.
A cold wave washed over her skin. Her fingers prickled. Something inside her stirred dark, ancient, restless.
“No…” Selena breathed, shaking her head slowly. Her throat tightened. “No, I won’t let that happen.”
A faint shimmer escaped her palms first a spark, then a glow. It danced across her skin like lightning desperate to be released. The light stuttered, brightening, dimming, brightening again, as if responding to her heartbeat fast, frantic, terrified.
Lilith didn’t notice.
She leaned closer, her hand still warm on Selena’s arm, pulling her back into the world with innocent worry. “Selena? You look pale. What’s wrong?”
Selena tried to steady her breathing, but the glow was bleeding through her fingers now raw power trembling beneath her skin, rising without her permission. The air around her vibrated, a low hum she hoped no one else could hear.
She swallowed hard. The truth sat heavy on her tongue, too big, too dangerous to speak.
“Everything,” she whispered.
Her voice cracked at the edges.
“Everything is wrong.”
