Chapter 265

Chapter 265

Evelyn was still on the phone and hadn't noticed Lucky's movements at all.

When William walked in, he happened to hear Evelyn's laughter. He paused, listened carefully, and figured out that Evelyn was on a phone call.

He took a few more steps inside and heard Evelyn call out the name of the person on the other end—Daniel.

William's expression darkened, and the smile that had appeared on his face upon hearing Evelyn's laughter vanished.

He hadn't heard the name Daniel in quite a while.

Hearing it from Daryl's mouth, he didn't think much of it, but hearing it from someone else felt wrong no matter what.

William didn't hide his presence. His steps were slow but carried a sense of pressure as he walked toward Evelyn, who was still on the phone.

By the time Evelyn noticed William, the intruder, he was already standing at the bedroom doorway.

He leaned against the door frame, looking at her with a blank expression.

Evelyn swallowed for no reason, feeling a sense of being caught red-handed creeping up from the bottom of her heart. This made her unable to focus on the person on the other end of the call.

The phone call was quickly ended.

"Daniel?" William only walked in after she hung up.

The feeling of being caught became even stronger. Evelyn tucked her phone under her thigh and smiled at William.

William was actually angry, but looking at Evelyn's smile, his anger was like a balloon that had been poked—it disappeared instantly.

It was at this moment that William made his request for her to bring him lunch.

Evelyn wasn't really good at cooking.

She had also grown up pampered, so how would she know how to cook? Being able to cook a bowl of noodles was already pretty impressive for her.

But she still agreed.

Because she remembered a dish she had specifically learned to make back in high school—spicy potato and beef stew.

She had learned to make this dish for William.

At the time, Evelyn had learned that William had just arrived in Harmony City and wasn't used to the food there. He wanted to eat the spicy potato and beef stew from Rosewood City. It just so happened that Hayden wanted to please William, so under Hayden's arrangement, she learned to make this dish.

Of course, William did end up eating this dish.

When he saw it on the table, his eyes lit up, but he only ate three bites before never touching it again.

Because it was Rosewood City flavor, no one in the Thomas family could accept this dish, so to this day, Evelyn still doesn't know what she had done wrong with it.

After that, Evelyn heard that William stopped eating Rosewood City-style dishes altogether.

This time, when William asked her to bring lunch, she instinctively thought of this dish.

The moment the lunch box opened, the unique aroma of spicy potato and beef stew wafted out.

William stared at this dish, which he hadn't eaten in so long, frozen for quite a while before smiling and picking up his fork. "You made this?"

"Yes."

Evelyn sat down on the other side of the couch.

William took the first bite, then looked up at Evelyn. He ate very seriously.

"That year at the Thomas Villa, was that spicy potato and beef stew also made by you?"

After swallowing the beef in his mouth, William spoke, but his words left Evelyn somewhat shocked.

Looking at her expression, William already knew the answer.

He didn't continue asking and forked another piece of beef into his mouth.

"You still remember?" Evelyn's mouth hung open, genuinely surprised.

William nodded, swallowing what was in his mouth before speaking. "You made it really well."

"Then why did you only eat three bites?" Evelyn pressed her lips together.

William looked at her. "My paranoia kicked in."

He said it casually.

"What?" Evelyn thought this explanation was too dismissive.

"I had eaten roasted chicken at someone else's house before and had an allergic reaction," William said calmly. "They put pepper in the marinade."

William's allergy to pepper wasn't a secret back then.

"That family was close with my dad and specifically made spicy roasted chicken for me."

Hearing this, Evelyn understood William's concerns, but she still frowned. "Our family didn't have any connection with anyone from the Brown family..."

"Before your family invited me over, your grandfather met with my dad and Vincent."

"And you still ate three bites?" Evelyn thought this person had a death wish. Under all these circumstances, he still ate it—was he trying to play dumb?

However, William's answer was rather straightforward.

"Because it was delicious."

Evelyn's face flushed. She didn't know whether to be angry at William's carelessness or happy about his compliment.

"Your cooking hasn't changed since then." William had never known Evelyn could cook spicy food. He ate with a smile he couldn't suppress. "Did you learn it specially?"

Seeing his expectation, Evelyn felt a bit embarrassed. "This is the only dish I know."

Hearing this, William wasn't disappointed. He nodded lightly. "That's fine, I know other dishes."

He had a talent for cooking.

He had lived in Harmony City for thirteen years and had learned almost all of Harmony City's dishes.

However, he was always busy with work and rarely had time to cook for himself. Most of the time, he left it to the housekeeper.

Even Evelyn didn't know William could cook.

So when she heard this, she was clearly surprised. "You can cook?"

"Pretty well, actually." William simply praised himself. He had finished eating and started cleaning up. "I also know Harmony City dishes. How about I cook tonight?"

Evelyn was quite surprised to hear this.

"You really can?"

William nodded. He had already packed up the lunch box and pulled out a tissue to wipe his mouth. "I'll get out of work early tonight."

Back then, by the third bite, he actually knew the Thomas family had no ill intentions toward him, but the feeling of having his preferences manipulated didn't sit well with him. It even made him distance himself from dishes he liked.

He didn't know that Evelyn had learned that dish specifically for him. He thought the Thomas family had hired a professional chef.

But if he had thought about it even a little, he would have realized that if they had really hired a professional chef, why would there be only one Rosewood City-style dish on the table?

Poor him, missing Evelyn's thoughtfulness for so many years, and poor her, having her feelings brushed off like that back then.

No wonder she still remembered that he only ate three bites. She must have been completely hurt by his attitude then, and probably even started doubting her cooking skills.

If given the chance, William would definitely go back and finish that entire plate of spicy potato and beef stew.

Evelyn looked at the neatly packed lunch box on the table, then looked up at the two ring boxes William had casually placed aside.

William noticed where her gaze had landed.

He picked up the slightly larger box and slowly opened the lid. "Take a look at this. Do you like it?"

Evelyn looked down. Inside the box were two plain bands, but unlike the plain band William was currently wearing, these two bands clearly had design elements and used patented craftsmanship.

She recognized at first glance that this was GKG's new collection—Eternity.

The ring's name was simple, just like the first impression the ring gave, and that sense of eternity was hidden in those circles of subtle light.
