Chapter 60 Rhea
Chapter 60 Rhea
RHEA'S POV
Sitting in the front of the mirror was Esmeralda with I standing behind her as I helped her straighten her silky raven hair.
"Did you hear that Estefan is going for the interview?" She asked, looking at me through the mirror.
"Is that supposed to be news?" I raised my eyebrows. "The interview is meant for the members of the Royal Family, so it's only proper that he attends."
"That's true, but Estefan has always refused to attend it because he believed it was stupid."
"Really? So why is he going this time?" I asked with my eyebrows scrunched together.
"I heard it's because of you," she sang as she winked at me.
What? Why would Estefan do something he has never done before because of me? There must be a sort of misunderstanding there.
"I'm sure you misheard it. Estefan would never do that because of me." I shook my head.
"It's true." She turned to me, stopping me from continuing my work with her hair. "Esteban said he was mad yesterday because you walked away from him after the firework show he prepared. By the way, I gave him that idea." She smiled.
Of course. I knew Estefan would never come up with something like that. If only he did it when I wasn't mad at him, I would have appreciated it and thanked him for it.
"Obviously." I rolled my eyes. "Go on." I dropped the hair stretcher and folded my hand as she continued.
"So Esteban gave another idea to make you forgive him which involves him going to the interview." She faced the mirror again. "I don't know what it is, but I can't wait to what he's planning to do. Make sure you watch the interview."
"I will. I can't wait to see it either." I picked up the stretcher and finished up with her hair.
When she was ready we went downstairs to meet everyone who was waiting for her so they can leave.
They all walked out the door as soon as Esmeralda joined them.
Queen Carina who was walking at the back turned to Anna and me who stood at the entrance. "If not for your condition, this would have been a great opportunity to introduce you to the world as the newest member of our family." She smiled softly.
"I'm sorry about that."
"Don't be. It's not like it's your fault." She pat my shoulder before she left us to enter her ride.
My eyes found their way to the prince's car and I caught Estefan staring at me from the opened window. I averted my eyes and walked back in when the cars began to drive out of the palace.
"I have been given strict instructions to make sure you watch the interview by 10 but we still have one hour to spare, so what do you want to do?" Anna asked as she walked in behind me.
Stopping in my tracks, I turned to her with raised eyebrows. "Why are you sounding like someone who was asked to babysit me?"
"I was told to look after you, so in other words, I'm babysitting you." She shrugged.
"I don't need a babysitter and I've stopped needing one since I turned twelve and staying in the house alone every single day."
"Oh, I forgot about that."
"Anyways, I'll be in Esmeralda's room. Have fun babysitting." I chuckled as I made my way into the elevator.
I was busy editing my book that I didn't notice when an hour was up until Anna barged into the room and turned on the TV. She set it to the channel where the interview was being held. The Royal Family were sitting at the podium in front of the hall with a large number of reporters opposite them with a laptop.
The interview started with a reporter asking Esteban when his wedding with Anna would take place. He replied by saying, "The truth is, I was waiting for my brother to get married before I do but now he already did, my wedding with Anna would take place anytime soon."
I averted my eyes to Anna that was sitting at the edge of my bed. "Is that true?"
"Yes. He didn't like the idea of getting married before his brother and he believed that was the only excuse he had to make Estefan settle down since he wasn't getting anywhere with any girl."
"Oh." I nodded and focused my attention back on the TV.
Another reporter stood up, directing her question to Estefan. "Speaking of your current wedding, is it true that you were initially supposed to marry Leah Knight, but her sister seduced you behind her back which made you marry her?"
My heart thudded in my chest as I waited for his answer.
"That's not true," he replied with his usual cold expression on his face. "That's just a lie that Leah had come up with to taint my wife's reputation out of jealousy."
"Can you please explain what exactly happened? Because there is proof of you and Leah going out on dates."
Estefan was right when he said the interview was stupid. Why would I attend an interview where people were trying to know everything going on in my life?
Estefan sighed and put his elbow on, the table leaning closer to the microphone. "Those pictures were taken during outings that Leah invited me to herself and based on our family relationships with her, I didn't want to embarrass her by rejecting her. I wouldn't count any of that as a date. Never for once have I mentioned to Leah that I had any intention to date her not to talk of marrying her, so I don't understand why she would come up with such a story.
"I want to plead with everyone here to stop all the hate against my wife and let us live in peace. Rhea didn't do anything to seduce me, it was my choice to marry her even when I hardly knew anything about her. We only met twice before my wedding to her was announced due to her condition which makes her stay indoors all the time and also made it unbelievable that she managed to seduce me during our short meetings in their house. Rhea is the nicest woman I've ever met. She can be sarcastic, annoying, and harsh with words but sweet at the same time and I'm glad that I married her."
My mouth hung open as I listened to what Estefan said about me. The reporters applauded his words with smiles on their faces.
"If you don't forgive him after all this, I'm going to pull all your hair out," Anna threatened but I ignored her and smiled to myself as I replayed Estefan's words in my head.
The interview ended by noon and I stood in front of the mirror, practicing what I would say to Estefan when he arrives.
Esmeralda barged into the room, letting me know that Estefan was back. "He's in his room, go and talk to him," Esmeralda said.
"Why don't I do that later in the evening?" I tried to convince her out of nervousness.
"No, go now." She pushed me out of her room and locked the door from behind.
Why was I getting scared anyways? I was only going to thank Estefan for clearing up something that was originally his fault.
Summoning my courage, I took the stairs that led to the fourth floor. On getting to our room, I knock on the door.
"Come in, " he said from inside and I pushed the door open to walk in. "You didn't have to knock, it's also your room," he said when he was that it was me.
"Yeah, right." I nodded as I closed the door behind me.
"Seeing that you are talking to me, my plan must have worked." He smirked.
"Yes, and I want to thank you for that. I heard you went there because of me." I fiddled with my finger as I watched him loosen his tie.
"That's true." He admitted. "It wasn't right that you are suffering for something that was my fault and also because it pisses me off when you ignore me." His eyes bored into mine.
"I'm not going to apologize for that." I shrugged.
"I'm not asking you to." He stepped closer to me. "I just want one thing from you, can you give it to me?"
"If I can, I would." My heartbeat picked at our closeness but I didn't want to give him the satisfaction that he affected me by stepping back.
"I know we agreed on getting a divorce, but I would prefer it if we lived happily and peacefully like a normal couple before that time comes. Do you think you can do that?"
"Sure, I can try." I nodded as I turned to leave.
"Aren't you going to move back in?" His voice stopped me.
"I am, I'm just leaving to get my stuff from Esmeralda's room."
"Wait, let's go together." He took off his suit jacket before taking my hand and leading me out of the room.
