Chapter 59 Estefan
Chapter 59 Estefan
ESTEFAN'S POV
Barging into Esteban's room, I met him getting ready for bed. "How dare she walk away from me?" I barked at him.
He sighed and sat on the bed. "Let me guess, Rhea didn't like the fireworks show you prepared."
"No, she did. I could see the excitement in her eyes when she saw the fireworks up close but they vanished the moment she set her eyes on me and then she walked away from me without saying a word." My face was red with anger and embarrassment as I paced around the room.
"Understandably, she didn't say anything because she is still giving you the silent treatment, and I believe what she wants from you is not some fireworks show." He shrugged.
"She should have at least acknowledged my effort. I haven't done anything like that for any girl in the past seven years."
"So that means you have done something romantic for a lady before you came into the palace? And here I was, thinking that you never had a girlfriend." He stood up from the bed to come closer to me. "Who is the girl?"
Thinking about her and the event that occurred because of her seven years ago, sent a stabbing pain to my chest. It was a moment in my life that I never wanted to relive.
"It's best if we don't talk about her." Those memories are better off in the depth of my heart and left unspoken of. "Besides, that's not why I'm here. I need you to tell me what I can do to get her to start talking to me again."
He left my side and resumed his position on the bed. "For someone who claims not to like her, you are desperate to make her talk to you again." He smirked.
"I never said I didn't like her and also
I'm not desperate to make her talk to me, I just hate feeling guilty."
"What happened to 'Even if the sky falls, I wouldn't make the mistake of trusting any of the Knight sisters'?" He raised his eyebrows at him.
"That was before I got to spend time with her." My mind drifted to our honeymoon in Hawaii. It was the first time I saw her genuinely happy.
Though she was annoying most times and talked my ears off, I kind of found it cute even though her words came out harsh sometimes. Which was why it was pissing me off that she was talking and laughing with everybody else but me. If only her opposite-charactered sister didn't create all those dramas and ruin her mood, we would still be in Hawaii and she would be having the time of her life, ignoring the fact that she was married to me.
"What did you realise after spending time with her?" He pushed.
"That's she's nothing like her sister."
"Okay." He gave me a confused look. "Back to our discussion, I'm certain that Rhea will forgive you if you clear up all the misunderstanding that her sister caused."
If I was going to do that, I need something that would go viral. I didn't think I was capable of staging something like Leah did, so I needed to make use of something that was already staged.
"The interview is tomorrow, right?" I asked and he nodded with a smile on his face. "Let Dad know that I will be attending." I turned to the exit and walked away.
"I knew you would come around. Good---" he started but I closed the door to drown his voice.
Stepping into the empty room, I sighed as I changed into my night wears and went to bed. I closed my eyes, hoping that everything went well during the interview.
\~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following morning, I stood in front of the mirror learning how to knot my tie from a Youtube video when the door was pushed open by the Queen.
"Estefan, I heard you are going for the interview, is that true?" She asked with curiosity in her eyes.
"Yes." My eyes didn't leave the video as I followed every step.
"You have always refused to attend the interview, so why the sudden change?" She raised her eyebrows at me.
"I was forced to go because of a certain somebody."
"Is it Rhea? I heard she moved out of your room, do you want me to talk to her?"
"No, your highness. I will sort things out between us." I groaned as I messed up the tie again. It was the Youtuber's fault for not being explanatory enough.
She chuckled at my stupid attempt at knotting a tie before stepping in front of me. "Let me help you with that." She loosened the knot I made and proceeded to knot it the right way. "I've always told you to stop referring to me as Your Highness, just call me Mom."
She had been telling me that since I arrived at the palace but I found it hard to call her my mom because it felt like I was betraying my mother. But when I thought about how the queen has been treated since I came to the palace, I believed that the Queen deserve so much more than that from me.
"Okay, Mom."
She paused and glanced up at me with shock evident on her face. "What did you say?"
"I said okay Mom," I replied like it was nothing serious.
"Did you just call me Mom?" She asked with tears gathering in her eyes.
"Yes, you told me to. If you don't like it, I can stop calling you that."
"No, don't stop." Tears streamed down her eyes. "I've been waiting for seven years to hear you say that. Thank you for making me so happy today."
"I should be the one saying thank you for treating me like your son since I came to live here." I gave her a small smile.
"You are my son, so it's my duty to treat you like one." She finished with my tie and left my room as she dried her face and sneezed.
Who knew a simple word from me could make her that emotional? I shook my head and put on my suit jacket before walking out of my room to meet Esteban and Anna walking out of his.
Walking toward them, I asked Esteban, "When is the interview airing?"
"By ten."
I turned to Anna. "Do me a favour. Make sure Rhea watches the interview."
She nodded with a smile on her face. "I will."
"Are you ready?" Esteban asked as we stepped into the elevator.
"Yes. Let's get this over with."
