Chapter 47: I Apologize to You

Chapter 47: I Apologize to You

Victoria was quite speechless at William's words.

A more charming man? What would thateven mean? What counts as charming?

William seemed to be in a bad mood that evening. After they got home, he went straight to his room and slammed the door shut.

Victoria didn't know what she had done to offend him.

She thought she had been quite understanding.

Quinn was still busy at home. She also noticed William's unhappiness, and to help Victoria and William grow closer, she specially made a cup of William's usual coffee and brought it to Victoria.

"Mrs. Ashford, could you please take this up to Mr. Ashford?"

Victoria took the coffee Quinn handed her.

She hesitated for a moment, then carried the coffee upstairs.

Indeed, she didn't know which words had upset William, but if bringing him a cup of coffee could cheer him up a bit, it would be worth it.

As Victoria went upstairs to William's room, Quinn's eyes narrowed into slits.

She immediately returned to her room to message Wayne with an update.

[Mr. Wayne Ashford, I had Mrs. Ashford take coffee up to Mr. William Ashford. I hope things go well for them tonight.]

At that moment, when Wayne received Quinn's message, he was so happy that he couldn't stop smiling.
He felt that the day he'd hold another grandchild wasn't far off.

Victoria arrived outside William's door and knocked rhythmically a few times.

From inside the room came William's voice.

"Come in."

Victoria pushed the door open to find William changing clothes. He had just taken off his shirt, and his sexy, well-defined muscles were displayed before Victoria.

It wasn't that Victoria had never seen muscular men before, but William's muscles were particularly toned, giving off an allure women would find hard to resist

Victoria felt a bit embarrassed to look.

William, however, didn't seem to react much.

Bare-chested, he looked at Victoria as she averted her eyes from his body.

Victoria felt a bit nervous. She held out the coffee to William.

"Would you like some coffee?"

William was about to take the coffee from Victoria's hand, but just as he reached out, the cup slipped from Victoria's hand.

The next second, the cup fell to the floor.

Afraid the hot coffee would splash on Victoria and burn her, William quickly pulled her into his arms. Victoria's face pressed directly against William's chest.

Her face was already hot.

And William's firm chest was even hotter.

Both instinctively shivered, and William suddenly grew hard.

He wasn't the type of man who got aroused easily, but in Victoria's presence, he suddenly felt desire.

And Victoria, pressed against his body, naturally sensed his physical reaction.

She felt somewhat doubtful.

According to what she had read online, gay men only had physical reactions to men they liked, not to women.

But why was William having a physical reaction to her?

Their eyes met, and William's held a hint of desire.

Victoria, meanwhile, felt embarrassed and wanted to escape quickly.

William looked down at her and asked, "Did you get burned?"

Victoria quickly shook her head.

She really wanted to move her face away from William's chest, but there was something about him that made her forget to react.

Then William bent down, picked her up, and placed her directly on the bed behind him.

He said, "Sit here for a bit, don't move, so that the broken pieces won't cut you. I'll clean it up."

After speaking, William turned and went to the bathroom to get cleaning supplies.

Sitting on the bed, Victoria thought about many things.

When she had temporarily stayed at Ethan's apartment before, one night when Ethan had too much to drink, she had specially made him a hangover remedy.

Because the remedy was too hot, Ethan had scolded her terribly.

Compared to Ethan, who always put her down, William was an angel.

Who wouldn't fall for such a man?

But thinking about him being gay, Victoria wanted to slap herself awake.

This marriage didn't need to be taken seriously at all.

William quickly cleaned up the broken cup pieces in the room.

Victoria carefully got off the bed and stood before William like a child who had done something wrong.

She said, "I'm sorry, it was my carelessness. You didn't get to drink your coffee because of me."

Looking at the cautious Victoria, William sighed softly.

"Are you silly? Which is more important, the coffee or you?" He asked.

William's words suddenly made Victoria's heart ache, and she wanted to cry.

Living with the Hughes family, she wasn't valued—forget a cup of coffee, she wasn't even as important as a blade of grass in the yard.

With Ethan, she got no respect either. Ethan completely ignored her.

Here with William, she suddenly felt something akin to happiness.

Seeing Victoria's eyes suddenly redden when she had been fine just moments before, William panicked.

He hated it most when women cried in front of him, but seeing Victoria's tears, he felt very guilty.

Had he said something wrong?

Had the loud sound of him closing the door earlier scared her?

Never good at comforting girls, he began awkwardly trying to console Victoria.

"What's wrong? Don't cry, okay?"

"Did I do something wrong? I'll fix it. I'm sorry, my attitude wasn't good earlier, I closed the door too loudly."

"I apologize."

Looking at the flustered William before her, Victoria's heart filled with warmth.

She shyly lifted her face and broke into a smile through her tears.

After smiling, she turned and ran out of William's room.

Watching her run off like that, William scratched the back of his head, somewhat speechless.

They say women's emotions change quickly, but he really couldn't understand why she was crying one minute, and laughing the next.

It seemed that in the next few days, he'd need to learn from his friends about how to comfort a wife.

The next day, Victoria went to work as usual.

As soon as she arrived at the office, Grant came to see her.

"Ms. Hughes."

"What is it?"

"Mr. Brooks's secretary just called and asked you to go to Mr. Brooks's office."

Grant looked at Victoria with worried eyes.

Presumably, he had also heard from others about Victoria ruining Billy's contract signing with the client.

Victoria stood up, preparing to go.

Grant looked worried.

He said, "Ms. Hughes, Mr. Brooks has always had a bad temper, and with that secretary of his badmouthing you to him, you need to be careful."

"If it comes to it, I'll take our department staff and those photos to threaten him."
