Chapter 41: Just Endure It

Chapter 41: Just Endure It

Victoria's words hit Charles like a slap in the face, turning him pale with anger. To some extent, she had touched on Charles's sore spot.

After all, no man wants others to point out that he got his wealth through his wife.

Charles's hands trembled as he cursed, "Are you trying to make me die of anger?"

Victoria shrugged her shoulders indifferently.

She said, "It's not like this is the first time anyway. Just deal with it."

"I can tell you clearly that some of the things you mentioned, I did do. Some, I didn't."

Before Victoria could finish, Sarah, consumed by jealousy, jumped in.

She pointed at Victoria and said, "Didn't do? You got Ethan to stand up for you and beat up Jerry—you didn't do that?"

"Victoria, Ethan and I are about to get married. Stop buzzing around us like a fly, will you?"

"If you're desperate for a man, go seduce someone else! What's the deal with seducing your future brother-in-law?"

Sarah was truly shameless.

She didn't mention a word about how she seduced Ethan. Instead, she made up lies, claiming Victoria had seduced Ethan.

Victoria never let her get away with anything.

She couldn't hit Charles back, but Sarah was different.

She swiftly raised her hand and slapped Sarah hard across the face.

Instantly, the air fell silent. All three family members were shocked by Victoria's slap.

"Victoria, how can you hit people?" Jade saw Sarah get slapped and was furious. She wanted to stand up for Sarah.

But seeing Victoria's angry expression, she backed down a bit.

"She can't control her mouth, so isn't it right for me to hit her?"

"She's the one treating trash like Ethan as treasure. I would never pick up and wear shoes I've thrown away."

"Jade, Sarah, don't think I don't know about you two framing me. I just didn't want to bother with you. But about drugging me with that aphrodisiac—if I report it to the police, neither of you will have a good ending."

Victoria's words turned Jade and Sarah's faces pale.

Even Charles felt guilty and suppressed his anger.

The family stood in tense confrontation.

Charles pulled out his fatherly authority and began threatening Victoria. "The Nelson family said they won't let you marry Jerry anymore."

"We had an agreement—I would transfer Maplewood Hotel to you only after you successfully went on a date with Jerry."

"Now that the marriage alliance with the Nelson family is off, you must return Maplewood Hotel to me."

Hearing that Charles wanted to take back the hotel he'd given her, Victoria sneered.

Maplewood Hotel was something Mabel had left her before she died. Now that it was finally in her hands, how could she possibly give it back to Charles?

"Impossible!"

Victoria flatly refused.

"You bitch, the marriage alliance with the Nelson family fell through—shouldn't you return the hotel to me? We had conditions!"

Charles's hands trembled with anger.

"What if I find a husband from a family even more powerful than the Nelson family?" Victoria threw this line at Charles.

Hearing this, Charles froze.

Looking at this city, there were indeed a few families more powerful than the Nelson family.

But given Victoria's social circle and status, how could she possibly know families more powerful than the Nelson family?

Could it be the Ashford family?

William? After all, that day when Victoria's face was covered in blood, it was William who rescued her from the attic.

At the time, William had said Victoria owed him three hundred million dollars.

Impossible, absolutely impossible.

How could someone as powerful as William possibly be interested in Victoria?

Charles quickly dismissed the thought.

He mocked Victoria, "You sure think highly of yourself. With your reputation out there, how could you possibly find a family more powerful than the Nelson family?"

"Rich people have money, but they're not stupid."

Charles looked down on Victoria from the bottom of his heart, even though he was Victoria's biological father.

At this moment, Sarah, covering her slapped face, spoke up.

"Dad, maybe Victoria really has such an opportunity? What if some stupid eighty-year-old man takes a liking to Victoria—it's not impossible."

"As long as Victoria can marry a rich man and bring benefits to the Hughes family, even if an eighty-year-old man wants to marry her, that's a good thing, right?"

Sarah's words were full of contempt for Victoria.

Victoria was about to snap back at her when a servant hurried over.

"Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Hughes, the Ashford family called. They said Mr. Ashford will be coming to our house soon."

Hearing that Wayne was coming, Charles and Jade's eyes lit up.

Even Sarah blushed slightly.

Wayne was a figure who could make things happen in this city. Over the years, he had kept a low profile and rarely interacted with others.

His visit to The Hughes Villa would be an honor for the Hughes family.

If he was coming to discuss the wedding date for Ethan and Sarah on Ethan's behalf, then the Hughes family's rise to success wouldn't be far off.

Worried about making a mistake, Charles confirmed with the servant, "Mr. Ashford? Wayne?"

The servant nodded, "Yes, it's Wayne."

Hearing this, Jade was so happy her facial features seemed to scrunch up.

She excitedly grabbed Charles's hand and said, "Honey, Mr. Ashford is coming to our house—it must be to discuss Ethan and Sarah's wedding date."

"Ethan is Mr. Ashford's eldest grandson. He likes Sarah so much that he convinced Mr. Ashford to come to our house personally to discuss it. This shows how much the Ashford family values Sarah."

"Honey, we need to prepare quickly."

After Jade's interpretation, everyone in the Hughes family believed Wayne was coming to discuss Ethan and Sarah's wedding date.

That sense of superiority immediately made Jade and Sarah feel proud.

Sarah stopped talking about Victoria slapping her and rushed upstairs to change clothes and put on makeup.

Jade, as the lady of the house, began ordering the servants to prepare food and drinks.

Charles, like an inexperienced schoolboy, started rehearsing what he would say to Wayne.

He bent his waist and hunched his back, looking completely submissive.

"Mr. Ashford, your visit to my home truly brings light to this humble dwelling."

"Mr. Ashford, please have a seat."

Victoria looked at him disdainfully, picked up her purse and prepared to leave. The Hughes family's excitement had nothing to do with her, and she had no interest in participating.

Seeing Victoria about to leave, Charles's voice rang out to stop her.

"You, stop right there!"
